Could Mageo potentially have an asterisk for him coming out of New Mexico? I mean that's just where he did his JUCO, he's originally from American Samoa. Did you know that a 2002 article from ESPN estimated that a Samoan male (either an American Samoan, or a Samoan living in the 50 United States) is 40 times more likely to play in the NFL than a non-Samoan American? Just an interesting statistic that I found and thought I'd share.

It should be an interesting offseason for carolina. Just by looking at their eligibility chart on scout, I noticed that they have 98 scholarships given out for next year, which includes 26 commits this year. On paper, I would think this would be their best recruiting class ever, which got even better when another 4* OL committed a few days ago.Of course, the problem is that you can only have 85 scholarships. 98 - 85 = 13 scholarships over the limit. That's a hell of a lot of attrition for one year. I guess Butch is taking a page from the TOB playbook
1/5/2009 2:40:36 AM
you sure you said that right?
1/5/2009 2:48:32 AM
I was reading http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=2&c=827393 and it really struck me how horrible his last name is, McPhail.
1/5/2009 2:45:40 PM
^Sounds like a nickname that McDonald's marketing folks have for terrible ideas that don't work out.
1/5/2009 3:25:37 PM
he's either going to come to state where his last name will be accurate or he'll go somewhere else where his last name will be ironic.
1/5/2009 3:57:00 PM
Just saw on PackPride frontpage that we have four enrolling early. I can't read the story (no premie) but it looks like:OT Sam JonesDT Nathan MageoRB James WashingtonS Donald ColemanCan anybody confirm this?[Edited on January 5, 2009 at 5:30 PM. Reason : ]

Leon Mackey to Clemson

At least it's not UNC
1/6/2009 9:59:52 AM
Byrd is still committed to us thank god at this time ( PP reporting)this is funny too:former UNC signee A.J. Blue will not enroll at UNC in January as originally hoped after still failing to qualify
1/7/2009 10:21:22 AM
Mackey wasn't going to make it in to a UNC System school
1/7/2009 10:49:36 AM
No, this is the really funny part:

HAHA Farms is only a soft verbal to UNC now and is taking visit to Auburn

Welcome DT Deion Roberson!
1/11/2009 7:07:26 PM
Roberson is a 3* on Rivals and ranked the #59 DT nationally. Scout has him as a 2* and the #89 DT nationally. we suck
1/11/2009 7:51:59 PM
I'm guessing the staff hopes to fill one of those spots with Asa Watson.
1/11/2009 7:55:55 PM
HOLY SHIT WE GOT RAYNARD RANDOLPH TOO!
1/11/2009 8:15:02 PM
Raynard Randolph is a 3* on Scout and the #55 DT nationally. Rivals has him as a 3* and the #48 DT nationally. One more spot for Watson.....[Edited on January 11, 2009 at 9:49 PM. Reason : ...]
1/11/2009 9:45:35 PM
so . . . that's a lot of defensive line guys in one class. Are some of them projecting to be moved to offense?
1/11/2009 10:55:53 PM
we're thin at DL and DBwe needed depth in this class, and got it
1/11/2009 11:11:23 PM
I still think we need more help at CB, even if Boyd signs with us. But getting all these big guys is awesome.Anybody know if Larry Raper has re-scheduled an official visit with us? Him and Watson would be nice final touches on this class. (and Bond too).
1/11/2009 11:31:47 PM
offer list means more than star rating. so, those last two pickups seem great
1/11/2009 11:32:36 PM
Frankie Davis to UCFAlthough I think we're good now at that position
1/12/2009 12:55:26 AM
The only one left that I want us to get now is Asa Watson. We've done a really good job filling up our needs this year.1 QB1 True RB2 Slot WR1 WR2 TE (Cato-Bishop will be TE or DE)3 OL (including one C)4 DT (one JUCO ready to play next year)2 DE2 LB2 S2 CB1 PCato-Bishop could play DE and we could still take Watson as a TE.

Supposedly Micheal Lemon is coming to State:[link]http://media.http://www.redandblack.com/media/storage/paper871/news/2009/01/09/News/Indicted.ExUga.Football.Player.Looks.To.New.Opportunities-3582794.shtml[/link]

So we have 26 commits right now. 4 have already enrolled, which would allow us to bring in 4 more guys if we so chose to do. You can only have 25 players come in a class, but since 4 enrolled early they can count against last year's total. If we can take 4 more players then the ones that I think the staff would take commitments from would be Asa Watson first and foremost, Jairus Jones, Quandon Christian, and Larry Raper. There are reports though that we may take former Georgia DE Michael Lemon. Lemon was dismissed from UGA after punching a fellow student 5 times in the face at a pool party. Lemon confronted the student about rumors that were swirling around that he had been with Lemon's girlfriend at the time. Lemon was charged with felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor battery. A felony gets an automatic dismissal from UGA. His eye Prior to this incident Lemon's mother was shot and killed by her boyfriend, and her remains were found in the burnt down house of Lemon's. A fund was started by the athletic department to help Lemon cover the expenses he would face during the remainder of his time at UGA. Lemon was by all accounts a soft spoken guy up until this incident.Lemon attended Georgia Military College last season and played football there. This is the same school that Tobias Palmer and Roy Mangram are doing their JUCO at and were former State player Merci Falaise is a graduate assistant. Lemon would have 2 years to play 2 and would enroll for classes in May.
1/12/2009 9:34:38 AM
damn that is awful about what happened to Lemon's mother. I can understand why he might be a little on edge. Hopefully TOB can funnel that fury into crushing skulls on the ball field.
1/12/2009 9:43:49 AM
yes. I hope this guy is not a "lemon"
1/12/2009 9:44:27 AM
Lemon is a fucking monster.when you're making plays for UGA as a R-FR, I think you can contribute up here in Raleigh.I think that if he makes it into the program, we got a fucking steal.
1/12/2009 10:04:35 AM
This might sound like a cop out, but that Lemon guy doesn't sound like a bad guy from Mark Richt's comments on him:“My goal for Michael is for him as he leaves this program is to go somewhere where he can continue his education and play football,” Richt said. “I hope for him that it can be at Georgia (in the future) because that’s what he wants, and I love him very much.”
1/12/2009 10:46:26 AM
Richt's a pretty honest dude, I'd have to think that he's not bullshitting in the above quote.
1/12/2009 10:52:10 AM
Richt is the man
1/12/2009 10:57:08 AM
Richt said that dismissing Lemon was the toughest disciplinary decision he had to make while at Georgia. We gave Shea McKeen a second chance and he's kept his nose clean and has contributed right away.
1/12/2009 11:40:47 AM
not exactly recruiting, but i talked to Andrew Wallace today on the way to class, dude said he's up to 300. He's a lot bigger than i remember him being in high school.

1/12/2009 7:36:49 PM
Conor O'Neal is off the board. He committed to Wisconsin today. We were the first school to offer O'Neal and he enjoyed his trip to State over the weekend, but we probably didn't have space for him since Randolph and Roberson committed first. Once we offered O'Neal received scholarship offers from Wisconsin, Boston College, Michigan State, Buffalo, Georgia Southern, and some interest from South Florida. Although he can't run with the Pack I'm glad NC State helped him get noticed enough to get scholarship offers elsewhere. It's just a testament to TOB & Co.'s ability to evaluate talent. One thing that's kind of ironic is that Wisconsin's 2009 class already has a guy named Conor O'Neill. DE Julius Forte is off the board. He's headed to USF.
1/12/2009 8:10:34 PM
Asa Watson will be visiting this weekend. If you see him at the Georgia Tech basketball game show him some love. He'd be a great pickup and could do well alongside Anthony Talbert, Mario Carter, and George Bryan in the coming years. That'd be on paper one of the better TE corps in the ACC. We'd have athleticism, strength, good blocking, and good hands all around.
1/12/2009 8:18:56 PM
^^^ that's wierd about O'Neal, packpride just had an article up about him yesterday where he was quoted talking about not picking his school until he took his last visit (to BC). oh well, i think our class is done at DT anyway.
1/13/2009 7:55:36 AM
Which Pack commits from last year such as Everrett, Palmer, Mangram, Locust will be coming back and when? I thought I remember there being different circumstances with each so it wasn't just two years juco and back. Anybody else I am forgetting?
1/13/2009 11:43:11 AM
I think Palmer and Mangram are 2010. Not sure about the others.
