2/9/2008 10:01:32 PM
shouldn't the pace be ten since we've won three of six?
2/9/2008 10:02:58 PM
The pace is where we should be at this moment to be on track for 20 wins. So over the next few weeks we get to see that little black bar move farther and farther from the last green box. It's a bit misleading; I need to rename that[Edited on February 9, 2008 at 10:05 PM. Reason : .]

word.i think i'm not gonna pay my playoff invoice, because i could use that money instead of having sit in karmanos' bank account for four months.*sigh*
2/9/2008 10:06:00 PM
no, the pace should be four because we've played six, and to win 20 out of 30 = 2/3but the pace should be us trading for prospects because we're gonna be watching the playoffs from our fucking living roomgoddamn I want to jump off a bridge after this game & the ncsu loss

2/9/2008 10:07:37 PM
commodore is a ufa after this season, right?he takes so many dumb fucking penalties that i wouldn't mind if we let him walk, but wes and hedi can only last so long and we need d-men
2/9/2008 10:08:11 PM
whitney hasn't done SHIT lately
2/9/2008 10:10:45 PM
If he will take a massive home town discount then I say resign him. Otherwise, let him walk or just go ahead and try to trade him before the deadline. If Wesley wants to come back, I guess he has probably earned that right so sign him to a cheap contract. As for Hedican. Make it clear to him that if he doesn't retire his ass will be sitting in the press box all season. Hate to force a guy out, especially someone like him, but he should not be playing anymore. Make a trade or sign a legitimate #1 defenseman, and bring up Borer for good. For starters.
2/9/2008 10:11:28 PM
For starters.
2/9/2008 10:13:25 PM
i'd pay my invoice if it meant a bulletproof seidenberg
2/9/2008 10:20:41 PM
So I got pissed after this game and came up with a "what if" scenario. First let me say that I haven't given up on the team, am not wishing for disaster, and still hope we make the playoffs. That said, I've got my own plans. I am not great with salaries, and it's hard for me to tell how much guys are going to demand, especially UFAs from other teams, and especially considering the insane salaries that were handed out last season to players. I also don't know if the guys I am signing are happy with their current clubs and plan on returning or whatever. Also, there are slim pickings on the free agent market this summer.-Jim Rutherford resigns effective immediately to go to Toronto. Vulcan91 is hired as President/GM.-Trade Cory Stillman for prospects and/or picks by the trade deadline to begin replenishing our dried up farm system-Offseason or before the deadline: Trade Erik Cole for John Michael Liles or a similar defenseman in the event that their contract can be immediately extended. Here I will be assuming it is Liles and that he is signed for $4 million-Offseason: Resign Andrew Ladd (RFA) - $1.5 mil-Resign Sergei Samsonov (UFA) - $2 mil-Resign Chad Larose (RFA) - $750k-Resign Mike Commodore (UFA) - $2.5 mil-Resign Tim Gleason (RFA) - $2 mil-Resign Michael Leighton (UFA) - $750k-Trevor Letowski (UFA) will leave for another team that will give him a chance to play more minutes-Keith Aucoin (UFA) will leave for another team that will give him a chance to play more minutes-John Grahame (UFA) will not be resigned (duh)-Do not extend a qualifying offer to Seidenberg (RFA)-Force Bret Hedican into retirement with whatever threats are necessary-Glen Wesley retires-Trade Kaberle for a bag of pucks-Trade Tanabe for a bag of pucks-Sign Ryan Malone (UFA - Pittsburgh) - $2.5 mil-Sign Nick Schultz (UFA - Minnesota) - $2.75 mil-Sign Mark Smith (UFA - Calgary) - $600k-Sign Kyle Wanvig (UFA - Tampa) - $500k-Kiss and make up with Anton Babchuk and sign him to a one way deal - $1 milThis year's salary cap - $50.3 millionThis year's self imposed cap - $44 millionNext year's estimated cap - $54 millionNext year's estimated self imposed cap - $48 millionOpening day roster - $47.75 millionGive Ladd his chance on the first line out of the gates and see what he can do.Ladd-Staal-SamsonovWhitney-Brind'Amour-WilliamsMalone-Cullen-WalkerLarose-Smith-WanvigLiles-GleasonCommodore-SchultzBorer-BabchukWardLeightonHealthy extras: Hamilton, WallinFeel free to tell me why this won't work because I really didn't put a ton of thought into it.[Edited on February 9, 2008 at 11:27 PM. I was just about to point out these moves would also decrease the average age of the team by around 2 or 3 years, putting us in the younger half of the league as opposed to the second oldest team. Of course, getting rid of Hedican and Wesley alone practically does that.

I got bored at work waiting for a long run the other day, so I came up with my armchair GM moves. The top is the list of what we are on the hook for next year already. I didn't include FAs that I didn't want to bring back next year. At the bottom are the signings and my guess on the costs, as well as how we would sit against the cap.

the former whalers are awesome. i must admit.

^^ I think Aaron Ward would be a great addition; however, he's starting to get old too.

Yeah, in addition to being the highest paid backup in the entire league, and paid more than all but 4 of our defensemen, his 3.69 GAA and .877 SV% are so bad that he isn't even listed on the NHL stats page of the top 45 goalies in the league. But for what it's worth, the 45th best SV% is Kolzig with a .884, and the 45th best GAA is Hedberg with a 3.32. So I would have to imagine that Grahame is somewhere between 60th and 70th.
2/10/2008 12:29:18 PM
jlb, Gleason is a keeper. Commodore could stay or go, I really don't care anymore about him and his Sean Hill-eqsue pension for taking costly penalties. (perhaps we should ban the #22 for a while). Slewey is likely to retire, as is Hedican, which is fine with me unless Bret wants to play every game at the same level that he brought against the Caps the other night.Seidenberg is a keeper, bring up Borer, and flush out the AHL roster with talented players, not just the same circle of potential 3rd/4th liners.
2/10/2008 1:40:29 PM
well shit, the caps just won in OT
2/10/2008 3:55:01 PM
^^ I agree about Borer, and Seidenburg. Commodore does take to many penalties and I think Gleason needs to as much as our D does.
2/10/2008 8:40:34 PM
gleason has been the best player for the last 10 or so games
2/11/2008 1:13:51 AM
I would highly disagree
2/11/2008 6:47:46 AM
he might not be the best these last 10, but he's been in the top 3 or so.
2/11/2008 10:31:59 AM
Either way, he will be back. There isn't even a question of that. He is a RFA.
