I just got done seeing it in IMAX... it was sold out weeks in advance, i had to reserve a Monday 4pm ticket.

man, it was even awesomer than you can imagine. If you get a chance to see it again, do it in IMAX even if you gotta drive to Charlotte or D.C. to do it.

I think the point is that when he is dressed in the suit he is Batman, not just Bruce Wayne in a suit, but an entirely different entity. They're talking to Batman, not Wayne, and that's how Batman talks. That's the way I see it anyway.

Basically.

Opinions will vary, but I've always thought of Batman as the "real" person. He ceased to be Bruce Wayne the moment he witnessed his parents' murder. He became Batman as a way to cope with all of that grief and rage. The persona of Bruce Wayne is the hollow shell that was left, and he is just something he assumes to throw off suspicions and further support his cause. So in a sense, he really IS two people.

My $0.02 anyway.

Why I’m pissed:
I can’t figure out why they needed to fake Gordon’s death. I was absolutely convinced he died and I was pissed off about it. Then he magically pops back up driving the police wagon. But what is the fucking point to that? Why even show that horrible scene with his wife and kids hearing the news if it wasn’t genuine? To fuck with the audience? If so it’s a cheap move. He tells his wife he had to do it to protect them but a threat to him or his family is never really established in the film. Maybe you could argue that Batman needed someone he could trust to drive the police wagon. But there was another office in the back with Dent who could have just as easily blown his head off. And that brings me to…

Why I’m confused:
I think Bruce Wayne might be mildly retarded. All this time is spent in both movies establishing how corrupt everything is. The police are corrupt. The DA’s office is corrupt. Fucking Taco Bell is corrupt. If you ordered a 7-layer you’d only get 6 because the mob is skimming off the top. So what does the possibly mildly retarded Batman do with the Joker? He saves his life and lets the SWAT team capture him! The entire infrastructure of the city is corrupt and yet he hands the Joker right over to them. If he can't trust anyone then why the fuck does he keep trusting everyone?

If there are plot points that I missed that could clear this up please tell me.

Other items:
Maggie Gyllenhaal got progressively uglier as the film moved along. I don’t think I could handle that face on an IMAX screen.
There is no way the Joker could so easily kill Spawn.

batman handed the joker over to gordon... gordon and his close group of police officers are not corrupt...

gordon is the only good cop (and his close group) left in the city...

also, batman's rule is that he can't kill. If he kills, it goes against his training with Al ghoul. It makes him just as evil as the villains he pursues... that's the one thing that separates him from the rest.

Uh yeah, I thought it was generally known for like the past 50 years that Batman's one rule is that he will never intentionally kill someone, regardless of what they have done.

The Joker killed 2 of the people who were going after the mob (Commissioner Loeb and the judge), and tried to kill 2 more (Dent and the mayor). As head of the Major Crimes Unit and a likely candidate to replace Loeb, it was safe to assume that Gordon would become a target as well.

^^That's a good point. But I still don't feel that enough direct threat to Gordon was there to warrant him torturing his wife and kids like that. If perhaps his DNA had been on one of the Joker's cards then I would have bought it.

se7entythree sucks.

Here's something I don't understand: When Joker dials the bomb in that guy's stomach he's standing in a room filled with policemen with guns pointed at him. After the bomb explodes he's standing in the same spot but the policemen are gone. What happened to the guys in that room?

Yeah the fact that those cops (which may or may not have been corrupt, though some may have been SWAT members) sat there staring at the guys bloated stomach without thinking it might be dangerous until the last second was fucking stupid.

se7entythree sucks.

the thing that bothered me most, was when the entire GPD was out in full dress, for the ceremony re: the old Commissioner's death.

then the half-dozen goons who started shooting the mayor, and battalions of full dress policemen squealed like little girls and scattered in every direction.

now that was just bullshit.

if the rest of the movie wasn't so goddamned badass, i woulda just ... i woulda .... well, okay, i woulda just sat there, but i'da been thinking mean thoughts towards the scriptwriter.

overall, they really made the police pretty pathetic.

If shots are being fired and you have no idea where they are coming from you're going to run for cover, I don't care if you're a freaking navy seal. It's the only reasonable thing to do.

I can't remember exactly when he does it, but when the joker is picked up by the guys in the car in the beginning of the movie does he put his mask on before they get there or after he gets in the car? for some reason I was thinking he did it after he gets in the car, in which case why don't the guys wonder why he has crazy makeup on?

I believe it shows him standing on a street corner from behind and as the van pulls up he puts the mask on. I don't know if we're supposed to assume it's the Joker or not.

he (it is definitely the joker by the mask he is holding) is facing the opposite direction with his head down, and puts on the mask as the van is pulling up behind/beside him and before they could ever see his face.

The end scene with dent is a good scene. Gordons acting is very good. But it comes off as meh because it came after than crazy scene with the Joker the ferries and all that.
