You can add an iphone to a family plan, no problem. and according to this it only extends the contract for that line and not the whole plan. Which I guess means your parents could still boot you from their plan/cancel with AT&T/whatever and you could take over paying for your line alone.
6/30/2008 3:51:43 PM
i bet his dad's plan cost would go up though...
6/30/2008 3:54:42 PM
i wanted a new iPhone, but I bought a S2000... Guess the iPhone aint going to happen, cant afford no more monthly's...
6/30/2008 3:55:53 PM
^^^but i already have a line. You mean replace the line i have? I'm already paying the standard 30$/month "pda plan" or whatever.
6/30/2008 4:17:20 PM
Well that line should be treated like any other line with AT&T, family plan or not. If you're eligible to get a $199 iphone, you can.I'm not sure where the confusion is.
6/30/2008 6:05:31 PM
i was all about getting the new iphone, till the extra costs set in. I'd rather pay $300-400 for the phone and keep the $60 monthly plan that's on the current iphone... fucking att and apple. Gotta shop else where for a new phone and I need a new one within a month.

^I want to make myself angry about that fact, but I can't. All AT&T is charging is the additional fee for 3G use. You'd find that on any carrier, and I think it's a fair charge, or maybe it was fair of them to NOT charge for the original iPhone, I'm not sure yet
7/1/2008 1:44:32 PM
except that they don't do it with ANY other phone..
7/1/2008 1:45:13 PM
if they are jerking people around with the fees. should i just wait for the SE X1? i'll pay through the nose, but at least i won't be getting robbed every month.
7/1/2008 2:03:16 PM
They will also have cheaper, lower minute plans available with the iPhone 3G. Personally, I would own this phone at a significantly higher price point, as I find the utility it provides me is more than worth what I've been paying.
7/1/2008 2:10:01 PM
you forgot to sayAhmet
7/1/2008 2:10:48 PM
I would love the iphonebut I'm not paying extra for a 3G network that doesn't exist in GVille...
7/1/2008 4:10:36 PM
agreed. i'm sure i could find the answer somewhere else but i'm in the same situation as ^..no 3G where I live. Do I still have to pay the extra $$ for the plan that includes it??
7/1/2008 4:12:24 PM
I still think it sucks that AT&T doesn't apply FAN discount to iPhone. That is such a selective policy. And according to the rep I just spoke with, that isn't going to change for the 3G version. Total BS.
7/1/2008 4:21:11 PM
Final plan pricing details http://www.informationweek.com/news/personal_tech/iphone/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=208801929I hate this part
7/1/2008 4:45:45 PM
Ok i just noticed something:
7/1/2008 4:50:37 PM
does the $30 unlimited usually include unlimited text/multimedia messages?
7/1/2008 5:46:39 PM
i mean shit, for $70 + text, you might as well go with sprint's $99 unlimited plan with tv...
7/1/2008 8:47:32 PM
sprint doesnt have the iphone
7/1/2008 9:05:13 PM
tru, but iphone is over rated now... the iphone doesn't have tv though...
7/1/2008 9:22:07 PM
blah blah blah
7/1/2008 9:28:41 PM
7/1/2008 9:48:36 PM

tv on a phone? really? lolwait a second...can't I already watch all my favorite tv shows on my iPhone anyway?[Edited on July 1, 2008 at 10:33 PM. Reason : ,]
7/1/2008 10:32:12 PM
I get all my cable channels + media on my phone using orb for free. I can even dvr stuff using my phone. I'm pretty sure you can do this on the iphone too. Just sucks cause TW's upload sucks a fat one.
7/1/2008 11:56:09 PM
tv on phone was suppose to be a joke, but just the other day, some woman asked if there was a such thing as wireless TV... I just and told her that it was fake just to end the conversation.
7/2/2008 12:08:40 AM
re: buying the iphone without a plan. It's actually cheaper to buy it WITH a plan, then just cancel your contract 5 mins later. Forget all the math, but it comes out about $100 cheaper that way.
7/2/2008 10:54:35 AM
so it's 200$ to cancel an at&t plan? I would think they would have a way to prevent people from doing that.
7/2/2008 10:56:00 AM
at&t don't care they just banked
7/2/2008 1:44:28 PM
i'm not sure $200 phone + $200 cancellation covers their cost of the phone
7/2/2008 1:53:49 PM
just wait for the special "iPhone termination fee", which is sure to cost about $100 more.
7/2/2008 2:17:43 PM
^^yeah.
7/2/2008 2:48:13 PM
7/3/2008 8:47:09 AM
yeah but then people would do that, and not pay 599$ for the phone. I'm sure AT&T would catch on.
7/3/2008 9:33:22 AM
Anyone heard any news on the flash front?http://www.crunchgear.com/2008/06/17/adobe-already-has-iphone-version-of-flash-running-on-emulator/http://www.forbes.com/technology/2008/06/20/iphone-disappointment-features-tech-wireless08-cx_bc_0620iphone.html

http://googletalk.blogspot.com/2008/06/chat-on-your-iphone.html
7/3/2008 2:10:56 PM
but it can't run in the background right?
7/3/2008 2:20:59 PM
nopei'm thinking it'll be useful when my wife texts me, then instead of having a conversation over sms, i'll just get a "get on gtalk" text and then chat from there. [Edited on July 3, 2008 at 2:21 PM. Reason : .]
7/3/2008 2:21:07 PM
Wait the browser can't run in the background?
7/3/2008 2:22:36 PM
That's not quite helpful, because you have to have that particular browser window open to be able to receive messages.
7/3/2008 2:23:02 PM
nothing can run in the background...for performance or whateveri'm sure theres a way for google talk to send a text instead through the application though
7/3/2008 2:43:30 PM
so you can't listen to music and browse the web at the same time?
7/3/2008 2:45:26 PM
actually that was a little misleading...u can listed to ipod and internet radio in the background. i dont know of a way (except the iradio thing) to leave a browser/application open and have it do stuff<./]
7/3/2008 2:58:37 PM
Can you listen to music while you browse though?
7/3/2008 2:59:14 PM
yep
7/3/2008 2:59:44 PM
yeah, Apple products can run in the background, like the iPod and the Phone Service or whatever. And if Google Chat is implemented as an iPhone Application instead of a webservice, then it will be able to receive IMs in the background as well using the iPhone-push service that Apple announced at WWDC
7/3/2008 3:06:07 PM
Well if google doesn't release an official application for iphone that supports gchat, I'm sure there will be tons of 3rd party apps that let you do that.I know Agile Messenger is going to be on the App Store. That supports AIM, GChat, ICQ, and pretty much so every other chat protocol out there.
7/3/2008 3:55:19 PM
Yeah i use agile on my WM phone. Only thing that sucks is every time i flash the phone i have to email the company and get a new key or whatever.
