^ cool, I added you as a "favorite"It took a while for my rating to get up there, but after 9 months, it's looking pretty good... and of course, regularly making lots of picks.

my user name on motley fool caps is SruWolf -- i haven't checked it since i started it a few months back.as for getting rich quick, i haven't figured it out yet. i also plan on getting rich slow. getting long dated calls when the August dip happened would've made some fast cash though. that and surfing the Chinese tide. ride the waves up and get out of the way before the wave crescendos on itself.
10/11/2007 10:08:35 AM
^you still riding that chinese tide?
10/11/2007 1:41:20 PM
always...but the last hour just wiped out a week's gains.that's why i liken this to surfing.
10/11/2007 3:32:19 PM
^ I just bought some RHGP as a very speculative play of course

GM and Ford up big today

To sell or not to sellMany are saying this reversal from yesterday could last as long as a week, seeing lots of volatility...So do I lock in some of my 30% gains now, and hold on to the more steady performers, or sell it all and hope to pick up an extra few percent on the downside?
10/12/2007 8:21:38 AM
30% gains, if you dropped out for the year, would you be happy with 30% gains?i would

I'm making a killing on MDR.bought it at $85, 2:1 split @ 99, and still moving up ever since. Currently sitting @ ~$61.I found this one based on Motley Fool CAPS. I actually picked it back in march when it was at $50, and after it hit $85, I couldn't take it anymore and bought in. I had also found NUAN from CAPS, bought in at $15.90, and sold at $19.25.My latest acquisition from CAPS is MICC, which I bought at $86 last week. My only laggard stock is TRID. I'm still remaining patient with it. They've fixed the paperwork issues, and the options backdating problems will be behind them soon. Forward P/E of 9.7 and estimating 29% YOY growth over the next 5 years. I really really want to double down, but I have too much in it already.
10/12/2007 12:20:06 PM
^ i remember you talking about MDR a long time ago - glad it worked out. will give MICC a look when i have some time.
10/12/2007 2:09:32 PM
FXI up 8% since I bought it last week... AwesomeMaybe I should give TRID a look right now[Edited on October 13, 2007 at 8:48 AM. Reason : .]

I realize this thread is mostly about day trading but since most of you have retirement accounts i thought this might be worthwhile. I process rollovers & cashouts all day long and didn't even know this tidbit so I thought it might help a few of you.
10/13/2007 11:49:04 AM
how long until GOOG splits?
10/13/2007 9:01:45 PM
i'd guess whenever the hype dies off and the P/E is reasonable. IOW, it'll be a while.
10/13/2007 10:22:57 PM
GOOG opening a bit lower today.

^^^^Do some companies offer discount on company stock through their 401ks? I just don't see the advantage of loading up on it. My company offers it through the 401K but their is no discount. I just buy it outside of the 401K through the ESPP since I get a discount. If we didn't have an ESPP I wouldn't be buying it at all.

is a bubble forming in China? it sure as hell feels like it. feels like 1998-1999 all over again. however, the analogy i prefer is of waves in a tide. i think you can probably ride the waves safely for another 6 months, and then get out of the way before you get wiped out. but if you're going to get in, make sure you wait for near term dips to form, and have an exit plan.the growth in China is real - as is the the new economy based on technology. however, it is the nature of the market to get ahead of itself. after the post-Beijing olymics bubble burst, its no telling when it will be safe to get back in. for those of you who were around in the late 90s, it will have taken about 8 years for us to get back to Nasdaq 5000.one of the interesting articles floating around out there.http://tinyurl.com/yryawa

record oil prices, more unease about bad debt.i'm down just a little bit on most stocks.I picked up ANW last week on a whim while surfing CAPS. it closed up 12% today. No specific news either.]]

sold some of my funds today, in preparation for buying a home ... most had super gains over the past 6 months to year, so I figured Id take the profit and stick it in money market for the next month. Also, put down some sell stop orders on all my other volitile stocks just to lock in some gains, and add to my house buying preparations ....Im going to miss this game when the closing finally comes and I have a chunk of principle thrown into a house !!

there is severe backwardation in crude oil right now -- meaning that futures prices are cheaper than spot prices. see price of crude, and then price of tickers UCR and DCR (they're both ETFs).also this: http://tinyurl.com/2mvtq3earlier i said crude would retest 50's. i'm not so sure it will go that low, but it may retest the 60's.

10/17/2007 2:40:27 PM
Nice. I sold some puts on GOOG yesterday. Theres so much uncertainty in the market this week puts that are only 3 days out are fetching a nice premium.
10/17/2007 3:16:57 PM
what strike?? Also, I'd close that trade before 4 PM tomorrow, earnings tom. for GOOG and exp. is Friday (assuming you sold the October's), that stock can move 50 points either way on earnings[Edited on October 17, 2007 at 10:48 PM. Reason : .]
10/17/2007 10:44:35 PM
good day to buy, in general
10/18/2007 1:10:20 PM
^^ $580.I don't follow GOOG too closely so I gave myself a wide margin.
10/18/2007 1:25:15 PM
I hope it works out for you, analysts are calling for as little as $3.70 and as much as $3.95 a share for today at 4. I looked at this earlier and got scared off from last earnings where they missed it by a cent and the stock tanked and I think Wall Street will accept nothing but perfection from GOOG at 4. I'm guessing you just did one contract on your put?[Edited on October 18, 2007 at 1:59 PM. Reason : .]

10/19/2007 11:49:10 AM
It'd be a good buy if it were a bit lower. I should have gotten into GS at $180.Hmm....SNDK. Ouch.

sold most of my stuff a few days ago ... just have GOOG and AAPL left, with a little bit of ESPP cisco stock, and FXI in my wifes 401k. Looks like it was a good move so far, but I think we still have BULLs waiting in the wings. Any thoughts?
