I still think the best pizza in Charlotte is at Luisa's Brick Oven, on Montford, same shopping center as Blockbuster
11/16/2010 4:00:20 PM
Hawthorne's is good, I don't usually get pizza with red sauce there. I really like their Chicken Bacon Ranch and Buffalo pizzas.Luisa's is good, went there last year for my fiance's Christmas work party.A couple other places with surprisingly good pizza is Selwyn Pub and Duckworth's. Both are MUCH cheaper than what you'll find at the pizza places. Also, the calzones at Mellow Mushroom are awesome.
11/16/2010 4:19:01 PM
is Duckworth's philly cheese as good as they claim?
11/16/2010 4:26:00 PM
^I like them ok but they're not incredible or anything...their fries are awesome thoughBest cheesesteak I've had in town was from Portofino's on Park Road, same shopping center as Fairview Grill, Dragonfly, etc...right near corner of Park and SelwynBig, messy, Philadelphia style]
11/16/2010 4:44:34 PM
Ah yeah, Portofino's has some delicious food. Their calzones are probably the best in Charlotte.
11/16/2010 4:50:35 PM
cool. i'm hoping things continue going well and i can check out a bunch of these places in the near future

Growlers Pourhouse...small but a nice beer selection and friendly staff. Good addition to NoDa.Kennedy's Pub...the old Ed's Tavern across from P-Stone. $5 Carbombs all day everyday. I have really been enjoying this place.
11/22/2010 10:39:46 AM
Does Kennedy's pub have any specials today? >.<
11/22/2010 11:08:51 AM
I went to vida on saturday..was not impressed. My margarita was more expensive than my meal and we waited forever for our waitress to give our drinks and take our food order.
11/22/2010 6:23:08 PM
who has been to the theaters at the epicenter? what's the difference between VIP and General Admission seating? just taking a look at the tickets online. Also, they opened the Our Town Cinema in Davidson which has cocktails and food and what not, isn't there a similar intimate theater somewhere in east Charlotte?
11/23/2010 11:13:27 PM
get the vip tickets...those are the "real" seats..the general admission are the first two rows in the front theater that nobody wants to sit inI went and saw harry potter there saturday and the only reason why I like the place is because you request your seats in advance so you know where you are sitting especially if your going to see a movie that's going to be crowded opening weekend...
11/24/2010 8:16:29 AM
Yeah get one of the reserved seats. The food at Mez is pretty good too, although I was really sad they took the cuban off the menu
11/24/2010 8:26:23 AM
ok cool. so i guess i do need to go ahead and buy the tickets online early then?

TWW Charlotte Xmas lunch - join us!message_topic.aspx?topic=604927
11/27/2010 10:08:32 AM
Are you paying?
11/28/2010 10:13:58 PM
anything fun but chill going on on Monday nights around town?
11/29/2010 3:32:21 PM
http://www.charlottecitipass.com/Citipass books are Buy One Get One free until midnight. If you like to eat out, it will save you a ton of money.
11/29/2010 5:17:14 PM
FYI: If you go to Duckworth's and get the nachos make sure you have a small army to help eat them. Probably the largest plate of nachos i've ever seen. Same goes with their salads too.
11/30/2010 8:02:56 AM
I had their wings last night & stole a slice of pizza. Doubly nice. Jenn, formerly of Saucer, now works there.
12/2/2010 4:27:04 PM
Their pizza isn't half bad. On Tuesday nights you can make your own with any toppings for $11.99, I think.
12/2/2010 5:05:06 PM
^^I was right across from you then! I was at angry ales last night
12/2/2010 6:23:18 PM
does Katrina still work at Duckworths
12/2/2010 6:28:52 PM
Don't know anyone else's name there + Kennedy's Redneck Xmas party was underwhelming
12/2/2010 10:03:07 PM
Yep, seeing Jenn is another reason we've been stopping by there more lately. need some restaurant ideas for a date that isn't too formal but something a little nicer than some of the pub/grill/hot spots that were talked about on the last page. We are both very easy going and could eat out at a tavern or bar any night of the week. but this night isn't too formal, just going to see a show, but I'd like something that fit a date night place mold better.
12/3/2010 11:48:09 AM
What part of town do you like best? Where's the show?
12/3/2010 11:50:15 AM
the show is at Ovens, she lives in Elizabeth/Midtown. so probably anything on that side of town. Elizabeth, Midtown, Park, Dilworth etc is fine.
12/3/2010 12:12:04 PM
If you like south american food I'd recommend Pio Pio in Dilworth. It's chicken, beans, and rice food, but it's delicious.
12/3/2010 12:45:28 PM

12/3/2010 3:11:36 PM
where'd you end up going?
12/5/2010 3:42:36 PM
haha it's not until next weekend. But thanks for the list, i read through a few of them over the weekend. leaning towards Cantina 1511 right now. ]
12/6/2010 9:56:33 AM
New place called Cow Fish just opened. Kinda want to try it out.http://thecowfish.com/
12/6/2010 1:11:22 PM
Cantina is nice...would be a good choice.Oh, and fuck not getting any snow!Charlotte never gets shit![Edited on December 6, 2010 at 2:33 PM. Reason : ]

12/9/2010 9:27:46 AM
any thoughts on italian restaurants around town?
12/9/2010 11:02:50 AM
Portofino's - on Park Road near Selwyn. I'm 99% sure I've seen mobsters there.Villa Antonio - on South Blvd. near Woodlawn or in Ballantyne.Mama Ricotta's - on King's.
12/9/2010 11:07:00 AM
cowfish replaced counter burger. It's basically counter burger w/ sushi, too.And for Italian... Mama Ricottas !!!
12/9/2010 2:14:38 PM
Open Kitchen on Morehead!
12/9/2010 8:45:55 PM
^^^ I can vouch for all three of those. Portofino's was probably my favorite so far, but I've not been a lot to any of them. Villa Antonio is neat for lunch b/c of the buffet (get to try different stuff). There is also a Portofino's in Ayrsley, but I haven't been to that one even though I could walk to it from my house.
12/9/2010 9:24:54 PM
So apparently you need to make a reservation at Cowfish or expect a 2 hr. wait. We went to Zink next door and it was fantastic.
12/9/2010 11:00:35 PM
or go for an off timed lunch
12/9/2010 11:12:32 PM
thinking about Portofino's on Eastway for the pre-show dinner. A bottle of wine and italian sounds better than a margarita and baja on this occasion.
12/13/2010 9:46:38 AM
I don't know about the one on Eastway, what's the cross-street? That area can get a little shady.FYI Jeepin4x4 - I went to Brawley's on Saturday and got some Moo-Hoo and a really good looking Trippel from New Holland. They have a ton of good looking stuff there including that Sam Adam's Infinium and the Dubbel and Trippel's that Biofreak posted in the beer thread.
12/13/2010 10:01:29 AM
awesome! i'll have to make it down there. Lately the beer store in Concord has done a great job getting almost anything i've asked for in so I haven't stopped by Brawley's. Did you notice how much the Infinium cost?also, the Portofino's on Eastway is at Eastway and Central in that shopping center. Only reason I may go with that one is the location. The show is at Ovens so i figure closer = more wine, it's also the original location.
12/13/2010 10:16:45 AM
I think Infinium was $19.99.
12/13/2010 10:48:52 AM
Has anyone been to Simplee Sushi @ 51 & Johnston?
12/16/2010 9:45:13 AM
What is everyone doing for NYE?Think we're doing Andrew Blair's on Montford.
12/16/2010 11:41:19 AM
any Whiskey Warehouse fans in here? Had dinner there last night and it was a lot of fun with all of the NFL playoffs action on the line during the evening games.
1/3/2011 2:03:10 PM
