As the world super power and one of the nations that takes more resources than our share, it actually is our duty to save the world. With great power comes great responsibility.

What do you think would happen if the rest of the world saw us closing in while at still continue to vacuum up resources and really, have the world's biggest military by far, and don't care about anyone else?

We'd lose all leverage and credibly we have and become a target for military and economic intervention. It's pure fantastical delusion to think we can actively bully the rest of the world by not helping when we can and think this will magically work out.

I'm cool with helping places like Haiti and Japan after natural disasters, but I am not cool with letting in the masses, or just not caring if they come here illegally. It would be nice if the next president would keep us out of stupid wars too.

^^^ it's the near opposite of neoliberal. It doesn't prescribe, and I wouldn't recommend, military intervention, but we've spent a century involving ourselves in global politics in very serpentine ways. We can't simultaneously benefit from these interventions then try to assert "were not the worlds savior".

We could recuse ourselves from world affairs, pull back our military bases and deployments, cancel aide agreements and other diplomatic agreements and try to be a "regular" country, then this would make sense. But we can't complain if Russia invades U.K., or Iran seizes control of Iraq, or of gadaffi wants to massacre his opposition. We can't get mad if Saudi Arabia cuts a deal with china that increase our gas prices or if china buys up all the steel and we have no economic means of challenging this.

It's entirely possible for the country to exist stably this way, but I somehow doubt most living Americans would be fine with that. And it wouldn't take much for another country to step up and take that role.

I wish I could post what Trump said on the Iraq-Iran war just now but it literally sounds like a three year old trying to explain history. Also casually mentioned Kurdish genocide.

Here is an excerpt. And I quote: "They would fight fight fight. And then Saddam Hussein would do the gas. And somebody else would do something else. And they'd rest."

Trump's plan is to beef up military spending? Am I missing something or does that go against pretty much everything he has been talking about for the last 1.5 years? He had a position on his website this morning in favor of the military sequestration but his speech today calls for ending it.

In all fairness, pretty good speech. If you actually believe he means what he says. Some obvious lies about Clinton in there as always and some projection but policy wise it's ok (aside from how to pay for everything).

Problem is, it was a scathing indictment of Clinton and... his own views in the past. It's just hard to believe he means anything he says given his morphing views from day to day.

At this point Trump is just here for the lols to make the final few months fun tv to watch to see just what dumb things he can say. There is zero chance he wins unless there are a shit ton of people out there who are gonna pull the whole I would never vote for Trump, votes for Trump, then tells people they voted for Clinton or Johnson or Mickey Mouse. I imagine there are plenty of those people out there but not nearly enough to come even remotely close. He had a small brief window after the conventions where he could have found a way to stop being a moron and decide to act like a semi normal person and could have rode some momentum into a chance but that vanished very quickly.

I'm pretty sure he has been pro military the whole way along with cutting taxes, dealing with immigration, and ending Obamacare. But yeah, I too am interested in seeing how he actually plans to pay for everything. He doesn't seem to be a better economist than any of the others.

Not much to say really. He's a horrible human being, most of us already knows this. Frankly, Hillary was being generous saying "half". Every single person supporting or planning on voting for him is deplorable.

^^ yes. I call them misguided but it's wrong to classify them as bad people. And I actually cut some slack for those who are GOP and can't stand Clinton as well. I get that. Don't agree, but get.

Of course, a huge part of his support or as they were described.

Those people are in Hillary's other basket:

Quote :
"You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic -- you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people -- now 11 million. He tweets and retweets their offensive hateful mean-spirited rhetoric. Now, some of those folks -- they are irredeemable, but thankfully they are not America."

But the other basket -- and I know this because I see friends from all over America here -- I see friends from Florida and Georgia and South Carolina and Texas -- as well as, you know, New York and California -- but that other basket of people are people who feel that the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures, and they're just desperate for change. It doesn't really even matter where it comes from. They don't buy everything he says, but he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different. They won't wake up and see their jobs disappear, lose a kid to heroin, feel like they're in a dead-end. Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well."

Yeah, no. I'm not gonna draw much of a distinction between being racist or enabling racists. Every single Trump supporter is one or the other, whether they realize it or not.

Two things: 1) this is smart politically. Must be Conway's influence because it's the only smart thing he's done so far this general; and 2) what numbers are there in a physical that are better higher? I honestly can't think of any. He's an idiot.
