What're you towing? How much can a Prime tow?The current RAV4 looks pretty great, IMO.
4/11/2022 9:16:28 AM
Motorcycles, track car, boat. It’s rated at 2500 lbs. That limits track cars, but I could do a Rush or a Radical, or a Legends or Thunder Roadster, etc.Boat would be over the weight, but 99% of the time, I’d just be towing it 500 yards from dry storage to the ramp. (And the other 1%, I could use the 66 pickup).
4/11/2022 3:54:53 PM
F150 Lightning would be great, but I figure it’ll be a year or two at least before I can actually buy one…And an EV/PHEV Maverick / Ranger / Hyundai Santa Cruz / etc would be good, but they’re not even announced yet.I figure I can either get thr RAV Prime and call it good enough, or I might have to wait a couple of years to get what I really want. And if I don’t get thr RAV now, they’ll lose their $7500 tax credit, and loan interest rates will go up (I can borrow at 2.1% right now.)
4/11/2022 3:58:46 PM
Yeah I don't picture a unit body FWD based CUV as a good candidate for towing a vehicle. You just seemed a little surprised by it, haha.
4/14/2022 9:05:44 AM
I'm picking up a volvo suv for my gf for the same thing. t5 turbo 5cyl tows 3500 and gets 30+mpg. need something to tow a radical

i thought you ordered the C8Z way back, like months and months ago?
7/31/2022 12:27:33 AM
that was just the deposit, they didn't even have pricing back then. this was submitting my spec and all that jazz
7/31/2022 11:38:21 AM
The process to buy new, remotely desirable vehicles, is fucking ridiculous these days. You have to put down a deposit months (if not years) in advance.
8/2/2022 11:02:13 AM
Yep. I'm not paying new prices for used cars, and I'm not putting a deposit down for something I won't get for a year. Not unless it gets to a point that I absolutely have to.

Hey Snewf, where you scoping an LLV? From what I've been reading, it sounds like they're going to the scrappers. I'd be thrilled to learn that that's not true, though. I'd love to see them all released to the public at stupidly low prices to be driven into the ground, icecream vanned, amazonned, modified, armed to fight the fascists, covered in candy paint, clearcoated to preserve the patina, laminated in a junk-mail theme finish, LS'd, Turboed, 4BT'd, K-swap, 1300 busa'd, electrified, human-powered, solar, jet, rocket, horse-drawn, dogg-drawn, housecat ok nevermind, they just pull in all directions equally...

true in many ways I suppose, especially with basically unrestricted aero.

kia ev6 ... total basic bro EV car from behind the wheel. I test drove one this morning and was extremely irritated by how the steering wheel completely obstructed the speedometer readout on the gauge cluster. For much taller drivers or for people who like the steering wheel oddly high, maybe it would be ok. But that's a huge pet peeve for me, and I could barely consider anything else about the car. It'd be like trying to evaluate how I feel about a car that required me to sit outside the car. Like... what are we doing here? big modern display for really representing ONE signgularly most importnat DRIVE VARIABLE.... Speed, and it was COMPLETELY obstructed? Like... WTF.

also: https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a42043450/praga-bohema-prototype-drive/Praga Bohema... $1.3 M, 700 hp, 900 kg, a trackday racecar tuned to supercar outputs. But after the blah-ness of the EV6 test drive this morning, such a frippery is so alien that it just... seems irrelevant. I am getting curmudgeonly in my middle age. Also, the current C8 corvette still pisses me off, with its mixed up styling, wacko interior, ketchup paint, camaro grills, lack of a manual transmission, and almost nobody buying one for anywhere near minimum spec. It's ridiculous that a typically specified one of those goes for over $100k.
11/30/2022 3:48:20 PM
I've been out with a praga r1 on track a number of times. the bohema is basically double everything (weight and power) for 5x the price. the r1 is a great car and the one i'd get for 1/10 the price used.

made an offer on one tonight. It's an aggressive offer, so I don't know that he'll take it, but that's OK.2019 M3P, 4x,xxx miles, blue, white interior, performance upgrade, FSD. I offered $35k.
2/3/2023 1:56:36 AM
They would be wildly under market value (even without the upgrades)...so hopefully he's a crackhead I'm considering a new one to get the tax credit.[Edited on February 3, 2023 at 11:04 PM. Reason : ]
2/3/2023 11:03:40 PM
I don't think it's THAT wildly under market value now. A month or two ago, yeah for sure.I see comparable ones on the Tesla website in the $37-40k range. There was one for $35.x on there a few days ago, but it was in Oregon or somewhere far. Those have a 1-year extended warranty, too.[Edited on February 3, 2023 at 11:20 PM. Reason : comparable on year/miles/performance upgrade. Maybe EAP instead of FSD, etc.]

FSD is a $15k option new, but only a very minimal boost on resale value, because it doesn't work and isn't going to in the near future (and Tesla has finally openly admitted that it will never work with their current hardware suite--it will need an upgraded computer, sensors, etc to ever work).Performance upgrade adds 20" wheels, Brembo brakes, track mode software, raised top speed, lowered suspension, and a little carbon fiber decklid spoiler. It's been standard for the last few years, but was an option for the the earlier 3s. It's mostly pointless for the street, and from what I gathered by talking to the guys at Unplugged Performance, mostly pointless for the track too, as you'd probably upgrade the brakes and suspension anyway (not that the Brembos aren't good, but apparently they still need you to run regenerative braking to manage heat. If you put even bigger brakes on it, then you can turn the regenerative braking totally off, which in turn helps the thermal management on the battery as you aren't pushing juice back into it under braking.) All of this, of course, is totally moot for anything other than track usage; the non-performance upgrade brakes are fine for anything on the street. The big thing for Performance Upgrade that is actually of use is the track mode software. In any case, Performance Upgrade also doesn't add much on resale. I wouldn't pay an extra nickel for it if I didn't plan on tracking the car, and I'm still up in the air on that.
2/6/2023 4:51:47 PM
^ Where was it openly admitted that the current hardware won't be capable of FSD? I thought the last I had read was they are working on HW4 which will be an improvement but that HW3 will work as well. The thing to make note of is that model 3s had numerous changes in the past few years and they don't follow the standard of other OEMs where changes only come out with a new model year
