I think the game pretty obviously runs better with a mouse.

I can only imagine the nightmare of trying to play it on an iphone.

I have the xbox PC controller thingy, and when I play Minecraft at home, it's on a 50" plasma with the xbox 360 controller.

It works pretty damn well. The only shitty part is moving inventory around from chest to chest. But the normal game mechanics translate really nicely. And the Analog sticks are pretty awesome compared to ASWD for movement

I have less than zero interest in playing Minecraft on a tiny ass cellphone screen.

And negative eleventy billion percent interest in the Experia Play. I've yet to see Sony/Sony Ericsson actually deliver a decent content distribution platform OR fast, modern smart phone. And layering it all on Android after Sony's recent total clusterfuck of linux security and understanding makes me even more weary.

Haha that must look horrible. I've been using 360/PS style controllers on HDTVs with HTPCs for years and there's certain games where it works and certain games where it doesn't. Any first person game is always better with a mouse/keyboard. When I see console gamers playing FPSs they look drunk because the movement is so jerky.

^Agreed.

Big difference between "style" and a real 360 controller on the pc.

And we don't have an office in our house. Without a desk Keyboard+Mouse makes no sense. On a couch it sucks.

Minecraft is not a FPS. It's a casual sandbox building game. I could count on one hand the number of times the precision of K+M was a real advantage. Yes I like K+M better when at a desk, but I only have a desk at work, where I don't spend much time outside of actually working.

Not at all. I'm opposed to the Form Factor. I think it Minecraft would play really well (potentially) on a tablet, whether Android or iOS. I think it would make a really good ChromeOS game too. Just not on the phone (any phone for that matter).

And I'm not shouting from the rafters about the joys of anything. I was replying to someone saying playing Minecraft with a 360 controller is silly. It's not, it works pretty well on the PC. So it's not a far stretch to think an xbox port of the game would have really good controls.

Hopefully the 360 port will also finally included Xbox Live! driven multiplayer, instead of just pointing to custom servers (god I hope it's not just a singeplayer game).

Edit this title as "Minecraft (PC)"

so we can make a Minecraft (Everything Else) so we don't have let the MASTER PC RACE mix with the lesser peoples.

Sorry to clarify here. I use actual wireless 360 controllers on my HTPC. It's Microsoft. All the accessories (controllers, guitars, etc) work on both 360 and PC.

I haven't actually tried it yet. I'll give it a shot before I pass more judgement.

I'm using it in SMP. The two big caveats:

1. Indeed, it does not move smoothly. But how could it? The vehicles are made out of blocks which need to be in discrete locations.
2. It's a very resource hungry plugin.

Neither of these bother me much. I have been dreaming about building giant vehicles since day one, but didn't want a terminal case of blue balls after finding that they were stationary. The movement is kind of ugly, but functionally it's fine. I haven't had any problems with it not pulling me. And it worked fine last night with another person riding along.

It automatically detects your vehicle based on the allowed block types (which are configurable). So for example, I'll dock on dirt. If I were to dock on wood, it would assume that wood is part of the vehicle itself. It even lets you remotely control a vehicle AND I just found out you can rotate vehicles too.

The only other issue is that really large vehicles are a lot slower (that one above is ~1100 blocks).

I've been trying to set up a slime farm. It's a little annoying that slimes only spawn in certain chunks. Anyway, I've been excavating 16x16x5 volumes for slime spawning chunks starting at the level just above where adminimum spawns. I got the first chunk set up without a problem, but it seems like the second chunk is just one big lava pool. Getting rid of large volumes of lava is a real pain in the ass.

It seems to me it's getting way too complicated, too many mods, too many special recipes, etc. Probably very intimidating to a newb. I think I'd prefer it if it was a simpler survival game. And as I've said before, the monsters are just goofy. Would be better if they were some sort of animal-like creatures that really triggered those animal instincts and fear in people.

This. I was big into it when we all first started, but basically once I got to red dust and circuitry - I was lost I am afraid that I am so far behind that it will take to much effort to figure everything out now... Which is sad because I could dig for hours straight just to make an impressive cavern (this was before TNT even) - but that is not a big deal anymore

At first, I was like WHOA SOMEBODY HAS A CONCERN. LET'S TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.

Then I realized it was smc who has been trolling this thread since page 3.

Anyway, I don't see how mods/updates take away from the game. You can still dig caves 24/7 if that's what you enjoy doing.

The silverfish are also terrifying. When you see one...you'll know.

It's as if Notch is listening to me personally. He even improved the graphics!

Sunrises are nice too.

The land generator is screwed, though. Floating islands or endless oceans.

It even says gay things like "Achievement Unlocked." You fanbois are going to hate this.
