There's a lot I don't mind at all when it comes to blood, gore, general violence, etc, but i could have done without the scene of Joffrey abusing the girls. They could have inferred all of that without actually showing as much, and certainly could have gotten across the part of him sending a message to his uncle. I wouldn't mind it as much if they hadn't already firmly established that he's a sadistic little shit. But there's no need to remind us with gratuitous scenes every week. Other than that, good episode. Ending was crazy, can't wait to see more about that.

^Scene was good. But it was weird how it was never mentioned again.
4/22/2012 11:59:07 PM
i think some stuff was combined.
4/22/2012 11:59:48 PM
damn thats some good tv. looking forward to seeing how tyrion reacts to joffrey's namesake party
4/23/2012 12:00:15 AM
so you are cool w/ a rat eating into a dude's stomach, but a girl beating the crap out of another girl sends you over the line?
4/23/2012 12:02:37 AM
not to mention shadow vag there at the end
4/23/2012 12:18:48 AM
^^ haha, yep. Well, it wasn't just a girl beating the crap out of another girl. It was very sadistic abuse. I wouldn't care if it were 2 girls fighting. There's no doubt that I'm more sensitive to some things than others. And the abuse of women and children is one of them (particularly when it's well acted). If it's meant to establish something about a character, I'm OK with it even if it's difficult to watch. But it didn't establish anything we didn't already know about Joffrey. Don't get me wrong, it was an intense scene and well executed as a stand alone scene. I just think they could have handled it in a variety of ways. And they didn't even touch on it later -- maybe next week. It will bother me even more if Tyrion just talks about finding out and it's not shown. It should be somewhat of a big deal since it's Joffrey sending him a clear message and the time they devoted to it (if you focus on a guy packing 1 last grenade in the first act... it needs to come up at some point blah blah blah). And, I don't remember seeing a rat eat into anyone's stomach. i did turn my back and walk into the kitchen at one point though, so I may have missed it. I saw them put the rat into the bucket and into Gendry's (is that his name?) shirt and infer that as much was going on. But even then, i wouldn't mind. I didn't mind the guy driving the head down onto the pike either (I actually like that simply because I appreciate the effects). it's just one of those things that gets me.[Edited on April 23, 2012 at 12:34 AM. The one that was getting hit was a real pussy.^sure it did.this is the first time we've seen him actively react to something Tyrion's done, I think[Edited on April 23, 2012 at 12:34 AM. Reason : .]
4/23/2012 12:33:46 AM
maybe it didnt establish anything to you, to me it shows joffrey is a tyrant but he's not the inbred horny halfwit people would expect from the offspring of brother and sister. give him an inch and he'll take a yard.

In regards to the whore beating scene:In a way it makes sense, friends who have read the books said that in the books the torture of Sansa was more extreme/vivid. Since the actress, Sophie Turner, isn't old enough to have been stripped naked and humiliated on television I guess they decided to give that punishment, and some extra, to someone else.It was still uncomfortable to watch.
4/23/2012 1:37:55 AM
I thought the scene was rather tame considering what HBO can be capable of. A few whipped of the belt on her bare ass. Big whoop. They didn't show her getting clubbed. I actually thought they were gonna sodomize her with the antler end of that club.
4/23/2012 9:18:41 AM
I know I said this before the season even began, but I do not like the recast of The Mountain. This guy is almost as tall, but nowhere near as broad or mean looking.
4/23/2012 9:26:53 AM
He looks like one of the Knights who say Nee from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

with the Joffrey scene in his chamber with the whores, did anyone else get the vibe that perhaps he is gay? just the way he reacted and shyed away so much from the one girl gave me the impression that he possibly wasn't into girls. i could be completely wrong and probably am, it was just how i took that scene.
4/23/2012 10:17:26 AM
He's just saving himself for when his sister is old enough.
4/23/2012 10:23:16 AM
^^You're wrong. My takeaway was that he's just a sadistic little prick that doesn't know what to do with his dick.
4/23/2012 10:23:45 AM
4/23/2012 10:25:42 AM
^I think they made that scene happen when it did just to have more "action" early on in the season since there has been more character development/less stuff actually happening, but admittedly the shadow thing would have been a lot more mysterious if it just showed up and it's "creation" was shown at a later time.On the topic of Joffrey, I think part of it was to show that he has no interest in the common desires that most adolescents/men have. All he wants is to cause pain and suffering. Then again, as the king he could have just about any woman in King's Landing that he wants.

4/23/2012 4:22:12 PM
The Mountain was the really tall guy who selected the guy that was "never picked" because he stared at him. The two guys asking questions were the Tickler and Polliver.[Edited on April 23, 2012 at 4:52 PM. Reason : ]

no point in investing so much blather in joffrey
4/23/2012 6:18:53 PM
yea i usually bust on people who cant follow this show, but its a but much to be expected to know who somebody is when they change actors. did i miss when they mentioned who it was or had he been in a previous ep?
4/23/2012 6:23:02 PM
Arya or one of the boys said something like "there's The Mountain" or "here comes the mountain." It confused me for a second cause i was just thinking "I thought the mountain was the guy who killed the horse." Then i just figured i wasn't remembering him right or had the wrong guy.

can't wait for next week's ep. the melisandre giving birth scene was fucking CRAZY. that was done really fucking well by the show imo.[Edited on April 24, 2012 at 9:54 AM. Reason : s]
4/24/2012 9:54:12 AM
Seeing that birth scene has made my glimmer of hope that The Dark Tower will be done correctly glow a bit brighter. Also, ive watched the episode twice and I still don't know what information Clegane was interrogating his prisoners for.
4/24/2012 9:59:11 AM
He was interrogating them about the SPOILER ALERT?!?!?!?Brotherhood Without Banners. This is a group led by Beric Dondarrion (the man who Ned sent out to find Gregor/The Mountain in S1 after branding Gregor a false knight and stripping him of his titles).Well, technically it's the group that was formed after Beric's originally party was defeated. But it is made up of a lot of the same men and headed by Beric all the same and in the scope of the show I don't know that they are getting into all of that.]
4/24/2012 10:26:21 AM
Essentially they are just rebels. I think there isn't too much to read into with that scene, they were just using it to show how messed up Harrenhal is.
4/24/2012 11:28:10 AM

The man.
4/24/2012 1:09:12 PM
That's kind of a spoiler, CalledToArms, especially since the show hasn't even mentioned him since he left last season. I'd recommend taking that out, I'm sure the show will address it at it's own pace.

4/24/2012 3:14:13 PM

4/24/2012 3:36:06 PM
^^^ Someone with mod privilege can edit it if they want. I didn't consider it a spoiler though because I was almost positive that has already happened off-screen (I was thinking those events took place between Book 1 and 2). In the books they didn't call themselves the "Brotherhood" (Without Banners) until after those events took place and they have already been referring to them by that in the show and I think they are severely downplaying Beric's role in the TV show so I was just trying to fill in some info.I apologize if I made a mistake though.[Edited on April 24, 2012 at 3:40 PM.
