With Shane dead I think Rick will start to become more of that bad ass that he is in the comics.

i agree (and hope for) this^

they are low on ammo, they have alluded to it several times in the last 3 episodes.question: on an otherwise dead quiet night can you hear consistent gunfire from 5 miles away?
3/12/2012 2:56:16 PM
We don't know how a new baby will be born yet, if at all. Could be a zombie baby!
3/12/2012 3:04:03 PM
All in all, a pretty good episode, IMO. I only have a couple of minor gripes: I thought the scene where Glen and Daryl kill Randall and take the time to examine his body and point out that he wasn't bitten or scratched was foreshadowing for dummies and made the rest of the episode a little predictable.I thought it was a dumb that Shane would go through the trouble of walking Rick all around the woods, only to loop back into a wide open field that was within sight and earshot of the house. It's kind of fun to think about how you'd try to survive and what methods you'd use in this sort of apocalypse. Seems to me that a large enough moat would be rather effective against zombies. Also, small caliber large magazine rifles would be my choice. An accurate .22 LR with a good scope and big banana clip could be dirty for plinking zombies in the forehead. Not to mention it'd be relatively quiet.
3/12/2012 3:30:27 PM
^the first thing my brother said he'd do was dig a mote too lol. i think it'd be a great idea as long as the sides were too steep for zombies to walk up.[Edited on March 12, 2012 at 3:50 PM. Reason : g]
3/12/2012 3:35:53 PM
the trench would make for a pretty bonfire! being low on ammo, how would you defend against a horde? i would think your options are really nothing.
3/12/2012 3:46:41 PM
Actually i like that idea of a deeeeep trench without water in it. to save ammo, let 'em accumulate then set them ablaze.
3/12/2012 3:52:13 PM
^6 an ice pick to the brain would work just as well. Shoot, andrea was using a pitch fork on a "live" zombie.I'm surprised they're not making runs to gun/sporting stores and police stations. There was quite a bit of ammo at Rick's station it seemed. I'm sure a lot of it has been gone through, but he got all of that well after most were dead or gone. I'd also be going Darryl's route and looking for crossbows and compound bows. I guess they've been busy with other things this season. But it would be high on my list of things to look for.[Edited on March 12, 2012 at 3:52 PM. Reason : ^]
3/12/2012 3:52:28 PM
In Land of the Dead they use a moat but the zombies learn to swim.
3/12/2012 4:11:11 PM
acid moat
3/12/2012 4:16:32 PM
One big samurai sword in the right hands does a very effect job.
3/12/2012 4:18:45 PM
they have giant guinea pigs who are hard to kill, i say make use of zombie power and put these guys in those things that conan the barbarian had to turn around in circles
3/12/2012 4:20:34 PM
3/12/2012 4:44:47 PM
Did the opening scene of them driving around in the pickup truck taking out zombies have anything to do with the actual story or were they just doing it to throw in some extra action? On the topic of a moat, that would only work to a certain extent... if the world is truly overrun with zombies, they would just keep coming and eventually "fill" the moat up to the point where others could crawl across. You'd have to make it really deep and that would probably require construction equipment. I guess you could set them on fire but they would have to be packed in pretty tight to get them all to catch fire. Also, you'd need enough food, water, and provisions to stay in there for a LONG time without leaving. Like years.
3/12/2012 4:47:51 PM
i totally misspelled moat. i knew it didn't look right but didn't bother to look it up. my bad my brother is a construction admin guy and we both work at my dad's architectural firm. bro has a lot of experience in actual construction work & knows how to run & where to get/steal heavy machinery. he was talking about specifically building it around my parents' house on 12 acres that's next to a mill damn with a big pond out in the country. he said he'd route the pond water around the house then back to the creek. mom had a giant garden & bro is VERY good at hunting & fishing. i think we'd do okay for a while. a while.didn't think about it filling up. yucky. bascially if i were them, with that crowd coming, all you can do is drive a vehicle slowly away, and maybe have a few members of the group attacking the rear of the herd stragglers with melee weapons
but im guessing this is were they abandon the farm house and end up in the prison for season 3

^^^^The only issue with that is A) safely getting the equipment to your homebase and using it without attracting too much zombie attention (most construction stuff is loud) and B) Getting enough fuel to use the machinery. I know nothing about construction equipment but I'd imagine they would require diesel or some kind of high octane gasoline which would be hard to safely get ahold of in such an environment. If your base is isolated enough where noise isn't an issue you'll be in a lot better shape. Just keep in mind that no matter how sturdy your stronghold is you will always need an escape plan.[Edited on March 12, 2012 at 5:03 PM. Reason : ]

They have the basement they said they could baracade themselves in. As long as there are no windows, and you can fortify the door enough, it should be damn near inaccessible by walkers. If I were in this situation that is what I would do.Load it up with supplies and bunker down till the horde passed.Even if they did manage to breach the door, they would have to come down a narrow stairway.Could make killing the ones that get in rather easy. After awhile, the bodies would basically block the entrance too.
3/12/2012 8:12:15 PM
not reading anymore of NCSUStinger's posts in this thread
3/12/2012 8:29:52 PM
they need to tie a goddamn bell around that kid carl. WTF appear out of nowhere ninja skillz
3/12/2012 8:37:51 PM
^^^no, basements are a poor choice. You never want to trap yourself at a lower elevation with only 1 exit. They would be better off going upstairs, destroying the staircase, and picking them off from the windows. On another note:So what happens if Lori has a miscarriage? Will the unborn baby turn zombie and go Alien on Lori?[Edited on March 12, 2012 at 8:44 PM. Reason : ]
3/12/2012 8:42:30 PM
Yeah, higher elevation is definitely the key. With a basement, you're just asking to get screwed.
3/12/2012 8:48:30 PM
Yeah true.I guess I was just looking at the fact that you only had to worry about the door and not your back.
3/12/2012 9:00:51 PM
It's okay, everyone reading this thread have voted...you will not be invited in the TWW Zombie survival crew. You will be sacrificed as part of the Redeker plan. (Back off kiddies, its a World War Z reference, not a spoiler for TWD)[Edited on March 12, 2012 at 9:04 PM. Reason : k]
3/12/2012 9:04:29 PM
I mean the basement isn't that bad of a choice as long as you can fortify the door to hold. That is basically the ONLY way they can get in. As long as its good to go, you are fine.
3/12/2012 9:07:52 PM
The obviously have to drive away. The house is done.
3/12/2012 10:06:12 PM
definitely leaving the house. I'm sure they will try to barricade themselves in the house and/or barn, which will fail and probably result in one or two people dying then they will peace out. Don't think they spent 4-5 mins on Glen pulling some of Dale's tricks to get the RV started again.
3/12/2012 10:26:47 PM
they were literally a few feet from the herd at the very beginning of the season and they just kept walking (minus the one that went into the RV). If they stay in the house, no sounds, no light, etc.. I'm not sure why a herd moving that quickly wouldn't just keep on moving. A few may try the doors or whatever, but if they can't get in and the windows are boarded, they should keep moving. Granted, they did start moving toward the gunfire. I don't know to what extent the zombies can really place the sound (and the gunfire was a few hundred yards from the house it looked). If they linger, that's when they're in a tough spot. That being said, this is the season finale... I'd be shocked if the herd just passes through.I think the moat is a good idea in general, but it does have drawbacks. If there's a moat, you probably have a bridge (draw-bridge preferably). If the place is ever overrun via the bridge, your only way out is through/across the moat which could have zombies in it. It would be extremely risky getting into that water. A tunnel through the moat that came out a few hundred feet away from the house would be awesome though.I think i'd be more interested in having a large wall. I'd specifically look for a house or building that had one already. And if I couldn't find one, I'd probably start building one. If you can find the supplies, you have the time. It would take a lot of time, but I'd want a project to work on in addition to the general survival stuff anyhow.
3/12/2012 11:11:26 PM
^you should be a writer for this show. would fit right in
3/13/2012 5:25:41 AM
Causes and solutions to zombies are always alluded to in all these zombie apocalypse/undead type genre series, but everyone knows the real reasons are never given. It is always left to speculation.I'm still not sure that the CDC guy's secret was that everyone gets reanimated. Could be though.WARNING: Comic talk, but no future spoilers.-I'm glad they finally got back on the comic's tracks somewhat by killing Shane. He should have been dead before they ever got to the farm.-I know they have already taken a different route with the TV show as opposed to comics as proven by some of the added and bastardized characters like Dale, Sophia, Randall, and T-dawg (is T-dawg supposed to be Tyrese?!? I hope not...), but god help this show if they manage to fuck up some of the awesome future characters.-Agreed with the pussy-footing Rick comment. Same goes for Carl.I'm hoping the season finally next week will be action packed and some slow characters die off.
3/13/2012 7:12:55 AM
i was really sad that they never had a real Tyrese, that character was awesome on the showwho knows though, maybe he'll show up[Edited on March 13, 2012 at 7:59 AM. Reason : though they seem to have given Shane a lot of that role]

3/13/2012 8:09:05 AM
we've known for a good long while now that this show is not following the comic to a T. is there really any use in continuing to complain about it/compare the show to it?
3/13/2012 8:10:17 AM
I hate Carl, with a passion. Not only is it annoying as fuck how he keeps popping up in the most inopportune times, but the overall acting job is bad. The kid has a look on his face like he's trying too hard to be serious for the role or something. Fuck himgood episode though, this show is definitely picking up. I have a hard time imagining how its going to continue without Shane around. He and Rick have done a great job portraying the two different sides of everyone's conscious
