I think I'll end up buying the white 3g iphone. I like it better...but I'm sure if they had released the iphone in all white first I would want the black one instead Just like the older ipod videos.

Does apple usually put displays up before the launch date or is that done when they close the store during the day?

you talking about displays of the actual 3G iphone or poster displays? i was at the apple store in charlotte yesterday and they had posters for the new iphone up but still regular phones on the tables to play around with

I didn't notice the posters...I Was in the southpoint store yesterday. I was asking about actual displays...but I guess you're right...no reason to set them up until day of.

So is there any pre-order on this or am I going to be waiting in some totally unnecessary line again?

Yea the line will be pretty miserable I bet.

Someone here already pointed out how they can't simply have you pay and your out with the phone.

I wonder if they could port a number in the store or am I better going to an AT&T dealer for that?

you pretty much count on having to wait in a line... apple uses this as a free commerical time...

they call all the TV stations and tell them to come witness all the hoopla of people in line to get a phone.

happens everytime an apple product is released

except the last time they released the iphone, people lined up and the stores had more than enough stock available.

the CORPORATE at&t stores have them is what I was told. i went to a small at&t store beside walmart the day they came out and nobody in the store had even seen an iphone..

i'd just wait until a day or two after the launch. apple is usually good about making enough so they dont run out on launch day

^^ Only corp. stores. Those PrimeMobile locations do not & will not carry iPhones.

Easiest way to find out a corp. store location is go to AT&T's Store Locator and tell it to only find stores w/ iPhones

Yup one for example is at North Hills. Furthermore I have heard that the corporate AT&T stores will open at 8:00 am on the 11th for the iPhone sales.

I figured they wouldn't extend your contract...i was thinking they would just replace your current contract with a fresh 2yr contract. what do you guys think?

thought they spelled this out already?

if you have an iphone already you go on a fresh 2 year contract

if not then you might not even be eligible to buy one at the $199 price

thats what i thought...i'm curious about the conflicting info quoted above though, but i'm currently chalking it up to somebody being misinformed.

do what? my understanding is it is $199 for everyone (in the us at least). i haven't heard about any different price levels. why would it matter what phone you currently carry???

i have an iphone right now. when the new one comes out, i'm going to buy the new one and transfer the one i have now to my wife's account. i won't get screwed trying to do that will i?

^ can't think of why you would. i would expect your plan to go up $10 per month and her plan to be what yours currently is (assuming she needs the same minutes as you)

Current AT&T customers who don't have a 1st gen iphone may not qualify for the $199 price.

I think they did this to prevent people from doing what I did when I got my iphone. I signed a 2 year contract with AT&T right before I activated mine, got the best "free phone" they would give me and then sold it on craigslist. Took about $200 off the hit of the price of the iphone.

^ damn i looked at one site and saw the following...speculating about mid-contract at&t people
http://topiphonenews.com/unsubsidized-iphone-may-sell-for-700/#comments

but you're thinking current iphone owners might be in a better spot than non iphone owners when it comes to mid contract people? You have a link for that?

well..here's the situation

a lot of people have gotten X phone for a discounted price for signing a 2 year contract. at&t would be losing money by letting those people get ANOTHER phone at discount (iphone) a month after getting their first. so from the few things i skimmed over i think there's going to be a different structure of some sort for people that have a non-iphone phone and are still under contract (or they simply won't be able to get one--but i don't see that being a good option for them)

they're being smart though and letting people that already have the iphone upgrade and just have 2 more years from the upgrade date.

i'll try to find a link hold on

[Edited on June 26, 2008 at 8:31 PM. Reason : and yes, current iphone users are def in a better position than other contracted ppl]

that makes sense. but im curious what the cutoff is (for non iphone owning mid-contact people). for someone who got a discounted sony ericsson phone 1.5 years ago, do they really have to wait 6 more months to get the discounted price on the iphone? isn't that how it always worked? but for some reason us current iphone owners are special? i guess that has something to do with us not getting a discount on the thing to being with

For example, if I were to upgrade to a Blackberry now, I can't get the advertised $99 price (because I am a new, existing subscriber); my price is $374.

A:It depends on whether or not you are eligible for an upgrade."

Go to the at&t website and see if you qualify for an upgrade. If it's been 1.5 years, I'd guess you do. I know I was under contract until June 08 when the 16 GB iphones came out in Jan/Feb, I can't remember exactly, but since I qualified for a new phone I was able to re-sign up for 2 years and get the free phone. So this time around, you can't get the free phone, but you will probably be able to get an iphone.

Nah, I don't have 2.0. It was up there a month or so ago. They probably pulled it once they figured out they were gonna turn it into a legit app.

that make sense?

indeed it does. And I think a lot of people (myself included) don't want to get bent over for the extra $15/month by AT&T.

The 3G plan doesn't have any text messages included so if you want the 200 that you have now it's an extra $5 a month.

Not a requirement but if it's something you've gotten used to having...

bastards. this plan is starting to get pretty damn expensive

is it unlimited data...like truly unlimited? even if it is now, i doubt it will be for very long.

i asked them about that for my phone and they said it's not technically unlimited. There's like a 3-4 GB cab each month because he said "people were using it to download movies".

So i'm stuck in a family plan because i'm still in college and it's much cheaper to get the shared minutes and data plan. My dad just resigned the 2-year contract about 3-4 months ago. So it's pretty much impossible for me to get a new 3g iphone? I would have to get my dad to resign the entire family plan for 2 years?
