right, that is a massive number.god we are so fucked. we're going to have one good year and then lose absolutely everything.
5/16/2012 11:14:31 AM
7 Open could be the making of something wonderful, but it's most likely going to be absolutely terrifying. We aren't Caltucky.
5/16/2012 11:15:24 AM
if we beat down on duke an carolina this year we can probably steak some kids from them.. Only reason people go there is because they want to win.

Our 2013 roster should be fine as long as we sign a good class next year. It should be a solid top 35, tourney team, IMO. We need at least one impact, can play right now freshmen and other guys that can fill in immediately. Since we haven't exactly been recruiting scrubs, I don't see how that will be a problem.
5/16/2012 11:27:50 AM
5/16/2012 11:37:20 AM
i hope we don't sign 7 guys next year. that would be a disaster. usually in those big classes you end up with 1 or 2 guys who can play and then a lot of middling scrubs. half of which will end up transferring anywayi want five guys MAX. honestly we still have the 1-3 spots set in terms of starters for 2013. lewis, purvis, turner. we desperately need some size and another guard who can handle the ball sure as hell wouldn't hurt but throwing scholarships away isn't the solution. most of the time those guys end up transferring anyway
5/16/2012 11:43:21 AM
you guys need to put a little more faith into MGsome of you act like the end of the world is upon us because Amile Jefferson didn't sign with us and that is just ridiculous
5/16/2012 11:44:26 AM
5/16/2012 11:46:27 AM
yeah, losing Amile isnt a huge deal. I think after we kick ass on the court this season and put 2-3 guys into the league, we'll have plenty of guys wanting to step in and contribute Gottfried hasnt let me down yet, so until he does I'm going to trust him
5/16/2012 11:46:47 AM
not...worried....at.... all. He took us from the bottom of the acc to near the top in one season without any game changing tallent changes... I feel he can mold anyone into a better player and i trust his instinct. 1 year at a time bitches...
5/16/2012 11:47:15 AM
Hey Guys,I heard Amile didnt committ! What a bummer!!

^^is that one good player Julius Randle, cause if he is we dont need other players
5/16/2012 12:09:03 PM
I'm just going to say that I think Brown will be a four year player. Not because he can't jump, but because he won't. It will be very similar to what Leslie did this year.
5/16/2012 12:10:34 PM
Can we just give all 7 scholarships to Julius Randle

i understand the concept, jbrick83. the problem w/ arguing w/ you is that you don't even understand what the argument is. i think this is b/c you don't actually watch basketball, but i could be wrong.i'm not saying that you have to replace seniors w/ freshmen that are as good as seniors. that's stupid. i'm familiar w/ the concept of players growing up. what i'm saying is that we are going to lose:wood, a 4 year starterhowell, a 3 year starterleslie, a 3 year starterbrown, a 3 year starterand replace them with:purvis, a 1 year starterlewis, a 1 year backupwarren, a 1 year backupturner, i'm not even going to try to quantify this, but for the record i like the pickup a lotthen sprinkle in a few freshmen and be good to go. we're down a ton of experience. we are going to have a huge dropoff if we don't do something here. i'm not concerned that we won't have enough bodies to put on the floor, i'm concerned that we're going to have one good season and then not be able to capitalize on it b/c we just don't have the numbers. don't even mention TBDV or TDT, b/c those guys just aren't happening in the way we need them to.if you think that this is incorrect then i'd love to discuss it w/ you. but stop saying stupid shit like
5/16/2012 1:31:46 PM
This is just what happens when you have a class that consists of Raymond, Harris, and TDT. Two transfers and a project. It's almost like taking a year off from recruiting, honestly. It tends to happen during coaching changes or when you just recruit poorly (for every good player Lowe recruited he brought in an equally shitty one). Honestly, Raymond was never going to play and the jury was still out on Harris. As long as we can keep recruiting at an above average to high level everything will be fine. And for the record, I fully expect us to have a drop off after next year. That writing has been on the wall for a while now. That's just what happens when you lose almost your entire starting lineup in one season. Adding Amile wouldn't have prevented that; it would only have mitigated it. So, in short, we have one more recruiting cycle to try and mitigate the drop off that we are going to experience, but rest assured that the drop off is imminent. That's just a part of sports.[Edited on May 16, 2012 at 1:38 PM. Reason : ]

5/16/2012 1:37:54 PM
really what it comes down to is that to look at a roster that will have seven open scholarships and not be concerned is objectively stupid. there is just flat out no arguing about it, that is a bad situation.
5/16/2012 1:41:44 PM
^^That's true, but that attitude is not unique to "this board". Every sports fan everywhere in every sport does this. We make projections in our mind based on what we've heard and seen. The reason I feel okay in saying that is because he didn't play much at all this year, and wasn't going to play much at all this year. That leaves him looking at his junior season before he even has a chance at significant playing time. Not too sure a player that hasn't shown much if any promise is going to blossom in two seasons of play.I mean, by your logic we might as well never speculate or prognosticate. Because you never know what might happen. Raymond could have blossomed into the next Jordan! Why did we let him get away!? Amile could be the biggest flop of all time! Why did we even bother recruiting him? Because people take evidence, put two and two together, and form opinions on what they expect a players performance to be. And based on that I wasn't holding out any hope that Raymond would be worth a damn to this program. You want to argue against that then be my guest.[Edited on May 16, 2012 at 1:46 PM. Reason : ]

I guess none of you guys followed Texas this year. They lost a ton of talent, came back guard heavy with a front court that consisted of a former bench player and a scrub, and still finished in the top half of a loaded Big 12 conference.I think that we will do just fine with Lewis, Purv, Warren, and Turner
5/16/2012 1:47:12 PM
Of all the stupid statements you pick, "Raymond was never going to play." Okay guy
5/16/2012 1:48:29 PM
mother fucker your example of a good outcome is a team that went 9-9 in conference and got bounced the first game of the tournament.i'm not trying to secure a spot in the middle of the ACC, jesus christ. i want to win fucking basketball games.
5/16/2012 1:48:54 PM
^^of all the comments, you decided to respond to mine. ok guy.
5/16/2012 1:51:43 PM
it's called a thread...follow it. i wasn't saying anything to you until you said that my assumption that raymond would never play is one of the things that annoy you about this board. whatever, just my opinion that he would have never amounted to much. everyone was saying pretty much the same thing when he transferred out of here.
5/16/2012 1:55:25 PM

^^ that's my whole point. i no longer want to live in a world where i'm satisfied by "relative" success. i don't want to go into seasons thinking "if we're not in the acc's cellar, this'll be a good year".i want to win basketball games, and i want to do it in march.

One big player is a Purvis/Sulaiman/Randle type. We pretty much got two of those this year in Warren and Purvis. Filling out the rest with Lewis/Graham/Marcus Melvin types is what I would call "well." One McDAA with the rest being top 50/60 talent is all we need. Anything extra is icing on the cake.A Hickson type big guy would be phenomenal (hello Randle). Because inside scoring is what we'll need the most in '13. Split the rest into a front and back court depth and we're solid.
5/16/2012 2:18:59 PM
