Wonder what statistical method rally will use to quantify Lebron's lack of heart and mental toughness

Jordan - 6 rings, never quit.
James - 0 rings, quit/choked/checked out.

I really like the comments section:

Quote :
"The thing about the P is, however, that it’s backwards and looks more like a 9. DeShawn tried to explain, “No, if you’re standing where Dom’s standing and looking at me, it looks like a P.” Dominic McGuire was standing directly in front of him about 10 yards away, but it still looked like a 9. I think DeShawn meant to say, “when I look in the mirror it looks like a P.”

Is it just me, or do I get the feeling that DeShawn got the backwards “P” because he thinks people looking at him face-to-face actually see it as a “P.” Like he thinks the reflection in the mirror is the way people see shit?"

I love all of these terribad jokes floating around after the game. My favorite:
NBA has issued a release saying all Heat merchandise will now come with a warning label that says "chocking hazard" to ensure fans' safety.

Lebron was not good by his standards, obviously we can all agree on that. He's a .300+ wp/48 megastar typically.

But considering .100 wp/48 is the mean of all players and he put up like a .16 or .17 (can't get the stats right now) it's crazy to say he played poorly. He was great in games 1-3 and bad in games 4-6. He had better numbers in the series than Dirk Nowitzki and Dirk got the MVP for god's sake. Try that on for some perspective.

If anyone choked it was Chris Bosh. Guy was god-awful for all but the last game. When you're making max money and you're supposed to be one of the three superstars you can't be a net NEGATIVE for your team. That's just ridiculous. Especially coming off a good Eastern Conf finals vs the bulls.

D-Wade was clearly the MVP of the series as he had one of the greatest finals we've ever seen. I get that they don't like to give it to a guy on the losing team, but if it's ever appropriate this would have been the year since he was such a monster.

Dirk got the award on his reputation because Chandler, Kidd, and Terry were all better than him this series.

Hilarious to see just yesterday someone was saying Dirk was beating the Heat singlehandedly. After last night I don't think we'll hear that argument ever again as Dirk was the worst player on the floor for the Mavs last night. Hell, at halftime the Mavs were winning the game even while Dirk choked all over his knutesac (that's german for nutsac). 1-12 FG? The Mavs went on like a 17-2 run the minute Dirk got his 2nd foul and sat down.

Don't get me wrong, overall Dirk was very good in the playoffs but the Mavs won because they had a great complete team. If they lose Chandler in the offseason they will suffer a huge dropoff (I think they'll re-sign him though). In that regard, maybe Jordan gave Chandler to the Mavs for free because he wanted to block Lebron from a championship?

^It's not all about #s. I actually like LeBron and defend him sometimes. But stats don't tell the whole story...if you were watching the game you could tell, without any stats, that LeBron was passive/tentative/scared/choking or whatever you wanna use. It was just a mental thing...some media heads are blowing it out of proportion, but if you actually watch the game and totally forget about the numbers then you can see LeBron was just off. He wasn't himself. Part of the credit should go to the Mavs for not allowing him to drive...but LeBron quit being aggressive and quit playing his style of basketball.

Does anyone remember this gem from last year?
http://www.sportspickle.com/news/1084/miami-heat-make-request-to-play-entire-season-on-paper
Quote :
"Miami Heat Make Request to Play Entire Season on Paper
July 22, 2010
.Representatives of the Miami Heat have sent a letter to NBA Commissioner David Stern formally requesting that they be allowed to play their entire season on paper, the Associated Press has reported.

In the letter, the Heat front office explain how the sheer amount of effort and money that was put into this off season should exempt them from having to compete in real life this season, because, “any contest involved between the team we have assembled on paper and any other collection of players in the NBA would be both unnecessary and fruitless for the players, the fans, and league as a whole. I mean, come on, have youseenour roster? This is some ‘NBA Live Franchise Mode’ sh*t going on here.”

Team President Pat Riley was adamant in saying that they’re not looking for the easy way out.

“Don’t get me wrong, we still want to play all 82 regular season games,” he said. “We just want to play them by matching up each individual player against his opponent of the corresponding position, and then through a mathematical evaluation based on probability, determine who would win the game if we were to actually play, which we don’t want to.”

Commissioner David Stern rejected the Heat’s offer, saying that every team has to play each other in live-action competition, adding “besides, when the lockout happens next year we’ll all be playing on paper anyways.”

Actually per minute Dirk was the 5th best Maverick (Stevenson was way above him) but since he inexplicably got low minutes I left him out.

Marion's numbers were side by side with Dirk's though so it's not a stretch if you want to call him the 6th best Maverick.

Actually, per minute, Juwan Howard was the best player in the series. Its idiotic how they didn't give him MVP. If he played 74 minutes per game, he would have had a triple double each game.

rally is so cute sometimes when he tries to defy reality

I'm ignorant because I think Dirk is better than the 6th best Dallas Maverick

I thought my buddy was pushing it when he claimed that not only were Dirk and Wade better than Lebron in the series, but also Terry.

But here is rally to ground us all, and inform us that a current top-5 player in the NBA isn't even top-5 on his own team.

I'm not sure how, in a short series, anyone could feel comfortable citing those stats. Finals MVP is based on such a small sample that it's absurd to try and apply these rate statistics to players and make absolute statements. One bad half can completely destroy a rating based on 10 total halfs. At some point you have to close down the Excel spreadsheet and watch the games.

It's just intellectually lazy to say Lebron was awful and dirk was great.

Dirk had an average series. He rebounded well but his shooting came unglued in the series.

You can say Lebron didn't play up to his potential but neither did dirk.

The mavs were the best team, but dirk was just average this series.

Cuban follows wp/48 FYI, that's why he went after Kidd in the first place.

Dirk was unquestionably the MVP of the playoffs and of the first three rounds. But for the Finals, in a vacuum, those six games, Tyson Chandler, Shawn Marion and Jason Terry all had a better series than he did. But you never give the Finals MVP to a non-scoring center, a defensive specialist or a sixth man, so Dirk won the MVP kind of by default. Basketball should have separate playoff and Finals MVPs like hockey does to differentiate the two.

I watched all six games. Dirk wasn't the best player on the best team. No, they don't win without him, but he damn near pulled a Kobe in the deciding game. The aforementioned three all had a bigger positive net impact on the series.

One thing stats don't consider is attention. Guarding Dirk and scheming for Dirk really drained the focus and mental stamina out of Miami. Without Dirk, they would've been able to destroy the B players you mentioned. Those players could not play well without a superstar on their team. Also, a lot of thier minutes are against Miami's non-existent bench.
