Regardless they are valueless to the ACC. Literally add nothing for the conference.

The only nugget of promise they ever held was the potential of having the ACC baseball tournament at Fenway Park.

Problem is, who gives a fuck about college baseball?

Obviously we'd all like to trade BC for a grilled cheese sandwich. The problem is, who is actually willing to trade an entire grilled cheese sandwich for them? Stop getting my hopes up tdub!

It's hard to read a 2000-word blog entry from some random jerk-off, especially when it's written like an SFN post. I scrolled down to the part where he mentioned State defecting and laughed. I scrolled to the comments where guys were suggesting ECU would be a good fit for SEC and laughed harder.

Quote :
"Jim Burton · Attorney at Law at The Law Offices of James D. Burton, PLLC
I don't think NCSU wants to leave the ACC.

NCSU is a basketball school first and foremost, despite two decades in the wilderness on the hardwood.

Additionally, there is nothing pulling NCSU to the SEC. TAMU got to renew their rivalry with Arkansas and only lost a rivalry with Texas (and I bet this will be temporary as cooler heads prevail). NCSU would be giving up all of Tobacco Road plus Maryland, Clemson, and FSU and only getting a very old minor rivalry with South Carolina.

The ACC is not the "Texas & Friends" Big XII. There are plenty of jokes about "Duke gets all the calls", but the ACC divides its revenue fairly. NCSU does not have the same grievances as TAMU."

Well said, Jim Burton

wow - Memphis to the Big East. That conference is a pile of crap minus Boise. Give it a little more time..Louisville will be gone, UConn will be gone & Rutgers will be gone. That leaves C-USA version 3.

Interesting to look at what C-USA could have been if teams wouldn't have deflected..

Basically this whole thing was a really complex ploy to kick ECU out of C-USA and add BSU.

has there been any confirmation of when Syracuse and Pitt will join the ACC? I know the ACC just came out w/ amended future bball scheduling, but I didn't see anything on if they were coming next year or 2013.

^ The general thought is not next season, but the season after that.

In unrelated news, C-USA is stepping up talks of a merger with the MWC.

If CUSA keeps losing people, this "22-team" conference merger will turn into a typical 12-14 team conference.

Look for pitt and 'Cuse to sue now. looks like the New ACC will probably start this year.

right now the Big East has only 7 so if Pitt and the Syracuse job they'll have to do a round robin in football. should have read further.

Quote :
"Syracuse and Pitt announced previously that they were leaving the Big East for the ACC, but have said they were willing to abide by the 27-month waiting period. Both schools are expected to remain in the Big East through at least 2012-13.

Whether they decide to jump a year early now, given West Virginia's departure, likely will come up for discussion."

EZU would join today, but they're like the fat kid at the dance.

^ probably be better for ECU to stay in this new conference deal than go to the Big East or whatever they think they are. The Big Eat will be torn apart before too much longer...too much priority on basketball & they have the worst meatball commissioner ever. When AQ goes away, they'll be just like the C-USA / Mt. West with the exception of Boise...they only team worth a shit football wise in that conference. It's a conference of large media markets. A bunch of teams in big cities where noone in the big cities gives a shit about them.

-- Big East --

Louisville (inevitably will go to the Big 12 or what ever # they are called)
S. Florida
C. Florida
Houston
SMU
Cincinnati
UCONN (will go to ACC if given the chance)
Rutgers (will go to ACC if given the chance)
Boise State
San Diego State
Memphis

-- C-USA / Mt. West whatever it is --

East Carolina
Marshall
Southern Miss
UAB
Rice
Tulane
Tulsa
UTEP
Air Force
Colorado State
Fresno State
Hawaii
UNLV
Wyoming
Temple (possible)
plus 1 more team

If I had to sit & watch games of either conference, I'd choose the CUSA deal. Neither are sexy but there is not one team in the Big east any longer that I'd have any interest in watching...minus Boise.

Plus - The Big East is going to have to fly their teams all over the damn place to play..the merger will stick with east / west divisions to cut down on travel until the championship game.

If I was stuck in either conference, I'd choose the merger. Boise should reverse their decision & go back to the merger deal.

Quote :
"Does the Southeastern Conference want a piece of the North Carolina television market? If it does, East Carolina University is ready a willing to offer up its viewership to support the cause.

In a recent interview with the Barnhardt and Durham Show on Atlanta's 790 The Zone, ECU's Athletics Director Terry Holland made it no secret that the Pirates are ready for the big time.

“Our great hope, someday, would be to be the SEC representative in the state of North Carolina," Holland told Tony Barnhardt. He later added that “If Mike Slive needs an extra team, he knows we’re here.”

These statements come after the University's recently evaporated hopes of joining the troubled Big East and as ECU's current home, Conference USA, works on a probable merger with the Mountain West.

Hindsight apparently has given Holland some relief over his program's Big East snub. “When I look at the current Big East structure, I have to admit, it has become more of a problem from a travel standpoint etc., than the conference we’re in currently," Terry said. "So while we’re disappointed with some of the decisions that the Big East has made, at this time we’re saying, well, for the long term, if you don’t share our values, then maybe we’re better off where we are."

East Carolina has become one of the more successful non-BCS programs in terms of attendance and regional support with an average home attendance this past season of over 50,000, which is even against a considerable number of automatic qualifying football programs.

Even with a considerable level of success, Terry thinks that ECU could flourish under the right circumstances. "The most tickets we’ve ever sold to a visiting team were in Conference-USA, because the distance involved has been 400," explained Holland. "If we were in a conference where we had some regional rivals, there’s no telling what our attendance could be and we would certainly expand our stadium again."

Though a spot in the SEC is a bit of a long shot, ECU's stock is certainly up at the moment as a regional up-and-comer and could gain more of a national reputation by maintaining a competitive television market presence and home attendance numbers. Those two factors bring in money, and after all, isn't that the only real factor that ultimately makes the decisions in college football?
