i don't think it's fair to make that generalization that people who are online looking for a date/relationship are crazy. every person i've ever met has some kind of "crazy" side to them that comes out sooner or later. as far as the "deception" goes - i think there is a fair level of deception going on even when you're meeting someone out at a party, downtown, bar, whatever. there's the makeup, nice clothes, overly pleasant (or overly butthole-ish) attitudes. whether they're conscious of it or not, i don't think anyone presents their true self when first meeting a potential match.
