so you are complaining, (via a mediamatters source, of all things) that the top rated shows on Fox, shows that are about political commentary, did not spend a lot of time on Haiti?

please. their stats and methods are dubious, at best.

^hey genius, they're being compared to the top msnbc shows which are also about politics.
but apparently the msnbc shows are run by people who are human beings first and political commentators second.

^ i slightly agree with DaBird's criticism.

Normal networks news shows and Fox's commentary shows are different beasts, despite Fox marketing them as news.

The Brett Baier and that other one are more comparable to "normal" news shows. Fox's main shows (the commentary ones) are more comparable to like The Daily Show or Good Morning America. Their goal is primarily entertainment and $$$, not news and journalism.

I guess this still maintains the point that Fox is skewing news and politics towards a more trite level, but that comparison doesn't really capture any true realities of the situation, I wouldn't say.

The article says they compared beck, hannity, and o'rielly to coundown, maddow, and mathews
how are the 3 msnbc shows not the same type as the fox shows
all of them are about politics but when a major disaster happened the msnbc shows decided to ditch the usual politics and concentrate on haiti
fox's crew decided to keep it business as usual

even if it is true that the 3 shows used only 6 combined minutes (which i find hard to believe) to talk about Haiti THAT night, it means nothing. their shows are all more editorial than anything, and there are some pretty significant things going on in our country, world disasters aside. one could make a pretty good argument that other things are just as important to Americans as Haiti.

I dont remember that exact show but I watch o'reilly most evenings and he has spent a lot of time talking about Haiti. what does that mean? nothing.

Dude, just chill out. Either look at the study and come up with a reasoned argument, or just be resigned to the fact that your choice of news outlet, which happens to be aligned with your political ideology, didn't cover Haiti very well during their non news shows. It's no big deal. The world won't stop because of it.

In thread after thread we're told by Fox fans that Olberman/Maddow are the same exact thing as Beck/Hannity.

Except in this thread, I guess?

the one conservative website i post on has all types of threads about every political and non political issues going on, as well as prayer requests for sick people, but not one thread or discussion about haiti
it appears to be a broader phenomenon from those who have parted ways with sanity and the rest of mankind

MSNBC Takes Incendiary Hosts From Anchor Seat
September 7, 2008

Quote :
"'The most disappointing shift is to see the partisan attitude move from prime time into what's supposed to be straight news programming,' said Davidson Goldin, formerly the editorial director of MSNBC and a co-founder of the reputation management firm DolceGoldin."

Quote :
"In interviews, 10 current and former staff members said that long-simmering tensions between MSNBC and NBC reached a boiling point during the conventions. 'MSNBC is behaving like a heroin addict,' one senior staff member observed. 'They're living from fix to fix and swearing they'll go into rehab the next week.'

The employee, like others, spoke on condition of anonymity because the network does not permit its people to speak to the media without authorization. (The New York Times and NBC News have a content-sharing arrangement exclusively for political coverage.)

Mr. Olbermann, a 49-year-old former sportscaster, has become the face of the more aggressive MSNBC, and the lightning rod for much of the criticism. His program 'Countdown,' now a liberal institution, was created by Mr. Olbermann in 2003 but it found its voice in his gnawing dissent regarding the Bush administration, often in the form of 'special comment' segments."

Man, Fox is trying so hard not to cover Haiti. Every morning I switch back and forth between CNN' American Morning and Fox & Friends, and it goes a little something like this. Feel free to guess which is CNN and which is Fox as I flip back and forth:

-Haiti Coverage of aftershocks
-T. Boone Pickens and his "terror salesmanship advertisement" that features an Arabic reference
-Haiti Coverage of two twin doctors saving children's lives
-Gunman in some state turns himself in
-Haiti Coverage of not enough medication
-New upcoming album by Taylor swift
-Haiti Coverage of dire situation

Glenn Beck implies Scott Brown is a murder-rapist.

Quote :
"“I want a chastity belt on this man,” he said, after mentioning Brown's Cosmo spread. “I want his every move watched in Washington. I don’t trust this guy. ... This one could end with a dead intern. I’m just saying, it could end with a dead intern.”"

bill o'reily never entertained the idea of FEMA camps. he knows what he's doing and he's good at it. he's an opinion man and he's his own man. it's hilarious how you think every liberal who disagrees with you is some kind of move on.org parrot who will fly off the handle when you point that out.

olbermann appeals to emotion and democratic undergroud-level discourse, and it's stupid. beck appeals to emotion and it's stupid but instead of pandering to the extreme elements of the right wing. the DU crowd idolizes the left wing of the democrats, who's most extreme belief is single-payer health care, while beck idolizes this man:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleon_Skousen

Quote :
"Skousen authored The Naked Communist and was the source of the publication "1963 Communist Goals" list.[23] In 1970, he wrote The Naked Capitalist, which claimed that top Western merchant bankers, industrialists and related institutions were behind the rise of Communism and Fascism around the world.[24] The Naked Capitalist has been cited by many, including Cleon Skousen's nephew Joel Skousen, as proof of a "New World Order" strategy to create a One World Government.
In 1987, controversy erupted in California when the state briefly considered using Skousen's book, The Making of America, as a textbook for California schools. Statements in the book regarding slavery, and its use of the term "pickaninny" as a label for slave children engendered a heated debate as to whether the book was appropriate. The state commission's Executive Director, a former colleague of Skousen at the National Center for Constitutional Studies, asserted that these statements were "largely taken out of context" from a 1934 essay on slavery by the historian Fred Albert Shannon that Skousen had included in his book.[25][26] Shannon's essays have described slaves as well-fed and well-treated, and stated that the slave owners were actually the worst victims of the system of slavery."

And he doesn't just idolize him, he shills his book openly.

Olbermann may act like a twat, but he doesn't idolize racist conspiracy theorists as far as I know.

I don’t listen to the radio, and when i do, i’d rather not listen to loud-mouth idiots espouse their views unquestioned (which is what the “conservative” radios are about, so I presume this is what defines a radio station as “liberal”?).

I don’t really know what would make a radio station liberal anyway? That they don’t make up blatant lies or distort facts to support their views? That they care about the truth of the matter? This doesn’t sound very “entertaining” really.

Another way of interpreting this is that liberals are not very politically aware and perhaps, that is even why they are liberal to begin with.

They let Newt Gingrinch ramble on for about 3 minutes tonight on why the SCOTUS decision was good for the middle class.

If you think NPR leans left, then it's simply because they don't confirm your viewpoint all the time thus you must dislike them.

If anything, the interviewers on NPR annoy me because they are too soft towards most of their subjects.
