The thing with Jamil Merrell was that he wanted to go to a program where he could play with his brother, Jamal. We weren't willing to give up a scholarship to his brother just to get him. A lot of programs though were willing to do such. It's not a knock on his brother, he's a decent football player, but he's kind of a positionless player right now. Scout has him as the #137th best WR, while Rivals has him as the #30th best OLB, and he plays DB in high school.
12/19/2008 7:47:47 PM
Asa Watson just got upgraded on Scout from the #46 to the #14 TE.
12/19/2008 8:06:58 PM
^don't forget that TOB and staff were the first ones to notice ASA and give him attention. The pull to Maryland b/c of how they use their TE(although i believe we use them just as much) and b/c his father played there could be too much. Also, Travis Bond went from **** #18 OT to *** #33 OT.[Edited on December 19, 2008 at 8:15 PM. Does anyone know who Raper named as his leader recently? I don't trust any of the school lists right now.[Edited on December 19, 2008 at 9:07 PM. Reason : ]

raper? i hardly know her.i have no information, i've just wanted to post that for awhile.

^^^oh well, i knew it was upper teens. fuck it, #16 then
12/19/2008 9:38:42 PM
it's not really a big deal. this is though. apparently Bitch Davis was a no show at a speaking engagement at the Shrine Bowl. Spurrier, Cutcliffe, Swinney, and TOB were to speak today.http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=178&f=2515&t=3634422

I may have missed it, but does anyone know the story of why Curtis Crouch was kicked off the team?
12/19/2008 11:55:59 PM
^lazy, didn't want to do what the coaches told him, just overall apathetic. Something about leading horses to water.....
12/19/2008 11:59:41 PM
all the youtube videos talk about how he is the fastest OL ever

^FWIW Andrew Wallace ran a sub 4.8 40 in HS.

It just occurred to me that TOB is as much of an eccentric as Amato was - just on the other end of the spectrum...

the "two offensive lineman in the house" thread on the pp premium board sounds good. did we get christophe and wentz?[Edited on December 21, 2008 at 5:49 PM. Reason : .]

^two could be good and jones. i don't have premium, but i'm gonna look to see if I can find anything
12/21/2008 5:54:17 PM
anyone know who it is????!!!!!!????????!!!!!!!?????????
12/21/2008 6:13:55 PM
rumblings that Cristophe and Wentz committed this evening.Nothing set in stone yet
12/21/2008 6:15:06 PM
Wentz was just upgraded to the number 11 center on scout
12/21/2008 6:24:25 PM
When I first saw Christophe and that we were recruiting him, I really thought he'd be a great piece for our o-line. I hope the rumblings will come to fruition. Wentz would be a good pickup as well.
12/21/2008 7:23:15 PM
seems to be that they did commit,so that's awesome. redshirt 90% of this class and lets go.
12/21/2008 7:31:40 PM
Look how big that guy is. He's 6-foot-6 275 lbs, which is almost on par with Nixon who is 6-foot-6 285. He's got the frame to add more weight too.
12/21/2008 7:58:12 PM
Christophe is the guy on the left?
12/21/2008 8:06:35 PM
Yeah. Christophe had offers from Louisville, Indiana, UAB, UCF, Vanderbilt, Middle Tennessee State, ECU, and Tulane. Georgia and South Carolina were also recruiting him. He's from Woodstock, GA. Wentz is from Marietta, GA. If the rumors are true that those two committed then we'd have 6 players from Georgia in this class. So how long before the media has an article saying TOB is ignoring the state of North Carolina and recruiting Georgia too much? [Edited on December 21, 2008 at 8:22 PM. Reason : ]
12/21/2008 8:20:20 PM
i like how wentz needs to improve on his arm length while christophe has arm length as a pluschristophe needs to work on his aggressiveness while wentz has it as a plusput them together, you have the ultimate o-linemanalso, jason ankrah committed to nebraska

12/21/2008 9:22:30 PM
i heard wentz was working on thatgetting some cybernetic arms installednigga will be like brandan wright when hes done
12/21/2008 9:22:41 PM
wentz would have been a 5* prospect if not for his t-rex arms.
12/21/2008 9:51:33 PM
its official, wentz and christophe in the fold
12/21/2008 9:52:19 PM
Dude's pretty skinny for 265. Lots of muscle, not much fat. I like those kind of OLs. Pack on 20-30 pounds of muscle and you have a scary dude.
12/21/2008 10:35:34 PM
this has turned out to be a pretty solid TOB class. props to coach mccollum for tearing up GA again. if we ended up with asa watson, i'd be satisfied for the year.
12/22/2008 5:47:54 AM
Does anyone know what Beck is going to do after this season? I hope he enjoyed his time at State even though his playing career didn't turn out like he would have liked it to. I kind of wonder what he could have done if he had been able to play in a west coast offense, which would have suited him better. If he decides to move on then we would have 3 QBs (Wilson, Glennon, and Proctor) and we won't be one scholarship over the limit, as we project to right now if everyone qualifies.
12/22/2008 10:08:24 AM
we arent in a scholarship crunch. 3-4 of the guys will enroll early and you always have some attrition. I hope Beck stays. we need the QB depth.
12/22/2008 10:28:14 AM
I'm not worried about people enrolling early. We are still under the 25 per class limit so far. Prior to Wentz and Christophe hopping on board, there was only one projected scholarship remaining, meaning that we would now be one over the 85 limit. So someone either has to not qualify, or someone has to transfer or not get their scholarship renewed for the entire class to come in.[Edited on December 22, 2008 at 10:54 AM. Reason : ]
12/22/2008 10:53:55 AM
my scout email is always so late.
12/23/2008 12:42:41 AM
I expect a few people to not be on scholarship/not with the team next year
12/23/2008 1:00:15 AM
Theres always attrition. I'm sure there will be 1-3 guys not make it in because of grades like there are every year. Also, im sure there will be someone that either drops out, gets kicked off, etc etc. We'll be fine. Atleast we're not 10 over like UNC
12/23/2008 1:16:51 AM
speaking of UNC......looks like their QB Commit has the herp:

12/25/2008 9:40:44 AM
12/25/2008 2:35:23 PM
We had ALOT of depth needs this year, and we fixed all of them with solid, hard nosed, pissing salt and vinegar football players. Watching all of their films, i'm very excited. I don't care what the "experts" think
