So even at the apple store you have to activate in store?
6/11/2008 3:10:05 PM
So all these Apple store employees are going to learn at&t's activation system in a month. That will make for some fun times
6/11/2008 9:46:12 PM
mhum, i'm sure those AT&T store monkeys are so highly trained with their flowcharts, scripts and call-center voice menus that the Apple store employees will just never figure it out.

So I guess that whole "won't be more than $199 USD anywhere on the planet part" wasn't so true after all. http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/12/unsubsidized-iphone-3g-priced-at-499-569-in-europe/

so i guess i can go pick one up for 773$ overseas.

So, it's pretty clear that iphone apps are going to destroy the apps on any other device.

Do any of you use anything other than iTunes to move files to your iPhones/iPod Touches? I've tried a couple of third party apps, but none seem to work with either and iTunes has been nothing but trouble for me.
6/14/2008 3:31:17 PM
^speaking of using itunes to import music...i have a question.i loaded 6.5 gigs of music onto my iphone, then i reformatted my hdd and didn't bother saving the music since it was already on my iphone. i can't figure out how to add the 80 or so additional songs to my iphone that i've gotten since i reformatted. anyone know how to do this or am i going to have to transfer all my songs from my iphone to the computer and then sync it?
6/14/2008 10:53:56 PM
Pretty sure you can just open up iTunes and just drag them onto the iPod directly without syncing. Not 100% sure on that though, so you may want to get a second opinion.
6/15/2008 12:04:24 PM
^you dont have direct disk access on an iphone
6/15/2008 12:08:13 PM
I'm like 99% sure that the other night I was dragging files from my Desktop onto the iPod on the left column of iTunes without adding them to my library and definitely without hitting any sync button. I also dragged music from within my iTunes library onto the iPod without using any sync button as well, since I didn't want it to delete my other stuff.
6/15/2008 12:20:27 PM
actually, i really dont know what you're talking about. i'll try that on mine later, but i really didnt know you could do that..assuming you can[Edited on June 15, 2008 at 12:30 PM. Reason : asdf]
6/15/2008 12:26:41 PM
For the iphone and ipod touch, you cannot enable disk access mode. The whole product is configured differently. You will need a third party app, but I have not found one that can do the job properly without renaming and modifying the tags on my mp3s.(this is the only problem I could find with my ipod touch, though it is a pretty severe design oversight on apple's part)

yeah i know. i'm bored at work and i was watching a bunch of the videos again. So my friend who works at the apple store seems to think if you're an AT&T customer and you want to get an iphone you can still get the 199$ price and not have to extend your contract. I'm sad that they misinform thier employees this much. I wish he was right because i'd totatlly jump on that but that doesn't seem like it's going to be the case.
6/18/2008 11:01:33 AM
the whole point of the subsidy is to attract NEW customers, not benefit current ones. This is how AT&T makes money

6/18/2008 11:22:56 AM
yeah why can't you use an iphone as a harddrive?
6/18/2008 11:36:05 AM
because Apple doesn't want you to
6/18/2008 11:37:31 AM
what if you change all the extentions to .mp3.
6/18/2008 11:46:30 AM
Does anyone know if you buy an app on the app store and then get a new phone later, will you be able to transfer the files to your new phone or will you have to purchase them all over again?

ok, well you should be sure to let them know of that. I hear they don't have very many good feature or interface designers over there, and they'd be happy to take design ideas from message boards.
6/18/2008 1:04:02 PM
they really don't. it doesn't take much to design apple hardware. you just pick a color and fillet the edges of lots of rectangles.
6/18/2008 1:06:25 PM
6/18/2008 1:13:30 PM
Features have nothing to do with communication/connectivity? Is the ability (or inability) to use the device as a hard drive not a feature?

^^Why is it that you assume that any time someone disagrees with you, they must be trolling and then you have to turn into a whiny little 12 year old and fag up the thread with your bitching and name calling. You are incapable of having a mature conversation on any level. It's sad.
6/18/2008 1:52:30 PM
^care to back up your uhh...no with real words? Both stein and I are not mistaken...the reason you can't bring anything more than uhh...no to the table is because you know you are trolling and full of shit. anyone with an iphone knows this.
6/18/2008 1:56:03 PM
When you drag a song to the iphone, it adds it to itunes. Also the method only works if you are using the same install of itunes as you previously used to add music, so no, stein wasn't correct at all since his method wouldn't work to help out the person he was replying to.
6/18/2008 1:59:45 PM
You can drag music to the iPhone/iPod Touch without adding them to iTunes. Grab music from desktop/folder, hover directly over the iPhone/iPod Touch on the left sidebar of iTunes, and let go. It copies it right over.Doesn't add it to your iTunes library at all. Doesn't seem to be based on your iTunes install either since I just did it at work and generally manage my iPod Touch at home, and doesn't seem to be locked to an iTunes account since I'm logged in to one at home, but not at work.
6/18/2008 2:22:06 PM
^ That only works if you have "manually manage my music" on.
6/18/2008 2:24:02 PM
Ah, well that was the first thing I did when I got this thing. So in that case, BigDave41 just set it to manually manage your music and drag and drop as you please.
6/18/2008 2:26:12 PM
^^that is exactly what we are talking about. That feature wasn't in the original release software...it was added later on.however, you cannot use the iphone/ipod touch as a portable hard drive as you could back in the day with older ipod products.[Edited on June 18, 2008 at 5:10 PM. Reason : .]
