damn i really like that picture, but i know i couldnt get that with my cam. i wish i knew more about my camera. i just take thousands of pictures and burn em to DVDs and let the DVDs just sit there. i need to learn the stuff w/ RAW or whatever, and how to use photoshop for stuff besides cropping.until then, ive sworn off using my fancy camera until i can use it properly, and i'll stick with my fuji finepics ps bs

^7 Thanks! It took some work to get that picture to turn out like it did. The sky was overexposed, so I used shadows/highlights adjustment in photoshop cs2 to bring it out, and then softened the sky so it would have a nicer gradient. It looks more like an HDR shot because of it, but it's a lot better than it was. If you really want to learn photoshop, I picked up this book: http://www.buy.com/prod/31191595.html It covers everything I'd ever want to do. It's written in a really straight-forward style with complete steps so you can pick up anywhere in the book and be ready to work... that and I think the guy's got a good sense of humor.

I love this picture SO much.

croppednot croppedThoughts? I like the tree more in the one that has not been cropped, but don't care for the shadow in the lower right.[Edited on November 15, 2006 at 11:50 PM. Reason : ;]

cropped
11/15/2006 11:51:18 PM
Go midway - allow a little triangle of that shadow, so you get more of the tree's canopy.
11/15/2006 11:53:07 PM
I tried lightening this up, but the blue background just didn't look good.I always appreciate feedback. The more specific, the better.

i've been noticing something on some photos lately, like the last photo in Skack's recent post, for examplethe "lines" or whatever that almost look like the countour lines on a topo mapwtf is that?
11/16/2006 12:06:53 AM
What are you talking about? Is that what you were going for Skack?(That lo-res image looks like garbage after edit )[Edited on November 16, 2006 at 12:14 AM. Reason : .]

11/16/2006 12:17:33 AM
What about it? What lines are you talking about?
11/16/2006 12:28:21 AM
check that last one i added, of yoursit's really obvious, at least on my screen...it kinda "ripples" outward from the center[Edited on November 16, 2006 at 12:30 AM. Reason : ;]
11/16/2006 12:29:42 AM
Your monitor fucking blows then. You're going to need to be more specific then just "lines" because that is vague as hell.
11/16/2006 12:30:27 AM
well, i wish i could be more descriptive, but if i could i probably wouldn't have to asknew monitor
11/16/2006 12:32:42 AM
Well then you suck at the English language if you can't think of anything more descriptive than "lines."I could probably answer your question if I knew what you were talking about.
11/16/2006 12:37:14 AM
here, i've outlined the "lines" as they appear on my screen(i'll remove this if you want, just trying to illustrate what I see)maybe i'm retarded, but the similarity to contour lines i mentioned is about as descriptive as i can get here[Edited on November 16, 2006 at 12:39 AM. Reason : ;]
11/16/2006 12:37:57 AM
i think he's referring to the gradient. i can't see it, but from what i am inferring, he is saying that there isn't a smooth transition from light to dark...so it has a rippling effect. like i said, i don't see it, and this monitor is the shit. try 32-bit color maybe?
11/16/2006 12:39:19 AM
11/16/2006 12:39:53 AM
^^nailed itYeah, gradient crossed my mind but i didn't think it applied here...that's probably it. Definately seems to be a light to dark thing, especially in pictures with sky views.in that last b/w photo, a series of three colors repeat themselves, gradually darkening and radiating from the centerjust switched over to 32-bit, and i still see it[Edited on November 16, 2006 at 12:53 AM. how do you convert from nef to jpgim trying to get some real prints on photo paper or whatever, and they wont take rawor nefi dont remember what i did
11/16/2006 9:17:39 AM
Your nikon should have came with software to do that for you. If you can't get it, I'll do it for you in photoshop with adobe camera raw.
11/16/2006 1:11:08 PM
i'll check it out, if i cant get it, i'll PM you. i need to get prints on some of this stuff so i can erase them off the camera. im scared to do so before im sure i have them right

why does that look like a quality loss after edit to me, or were you going for that?i got the print company to accept enough RAW files so i didnt have to worry with conversion btw. thanks though
11/17/2006 7:08:45 PM
The flickr upload compressed it to 608KB from 7.45MB. I didn't upload full res/quality. Would that be what you're referring to?Glad you got your prints taken care of. Did they do any color correction from them for you, or was the edits saved in the raw file?

I can't wait til people begin to use HDR tastefully. This is a prime example of WTF / [Edited on November 20, 2006 at 6:04 PM. Reason : this might not be HDR, but it's pretty indicative of how people fuck it up]
