Well I got mine in the mail today (Currituck County) so that is my source[Edited on August 26, 2011 at 3:11 PM. Reason : source]

What?? Agh. Now I'm terrified. How come it didn't make it to Wake County??
8/26/2011 3:11:50 PM
Not sure, but nobody else I've talked to has gotten it either.Maybe they felt bad for us with the hurricane coming.
8/26/2011 3:12:23 PM
Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!!
8/26/2011 3:12:36 PM
Thanks!I'm sure you have passed as well
8/26/2011 3:13:34 PM
Congrats. My friend in Wake County just got hers.
8/26/2011 4:17:58 PM
i am in wake and did not get mineso i am probably on the list of failures that gets theirs tomorrow or something.ugh.
8/26/2011 6:33:13 PM
^You can't say that. I only know of ONE UNC-CH person to get theirs back so far. And the one person ^^posted about in Wake. I really don't think they would stagger the delivery like that.
8/26/2011 6:45:14 PM
Another dude I know from UNC who is currently in Birmingham, AL also got his.I'm guessing they intended for everyone to get them at the same time, but got overzealous sending out the ones they thought would take 2+ days to get there.[Edited on August 26, 2011 at 8:04 PM. Reason : .]

I think what's bothering many people is that it seems all the letters received today were "pass" letters. At least, I haven't heard anyone who received a "fail" letter yet. So while it seems like they wouldn't do something like that (send out "pass" and "fail" letters at different times), it certainly raises the eyebrow, and blood pressure, of a lot of those awaiting results.
8/26/2011 9:38:57 PM
I have heard of a girl in the western part of the state from Central who got a fail letter today as well.
8/26/2011 9:40:13 PM
Interesting. Thanks for that info. Now perhaps those still awaiting results can sleep tonight. [Edited on August 26, 2011 at 9:47 PM. Reason : ;]
8/26/2011 9:47:11 PM
^I don't really care if you made that up or not (not that I think you did), but it really makes me feel better! With the magnitude of incredibly smart people I know that didn't get letters today, I was thinking it didn't have to do with pass/fail, but sitting here without a letter really made me wonder.
8/26/2011 9:47:14 PM
No results today either. I'm actually pretty pissed, because now I'm waiting until Monday, and a lot of people have already gotten their results.
8/27/2011 2:15:09 PM
I don't really get sending letters...especially this day and age. Post it on a website already.
8/28/2011 6:26:48 PM
the in-state school passage rate was a record high for this exam, per a former coworker who would know.
8/29/2011 12:24:24 AM
I wonder if that means February and July 2012 will be record lows?
8/29/2011 10:27:49 AM
does anyone here think they have to had made the test even a smidge easier based on all the law school backlash as of late, i mean imagine the magnitude of complaints if law schools were continually graduating a large amount of people that will never pass the bar
8/29/2011 10:58:16 AM
Yeah, but wouldn't it be better overall if there were fewer people who passed? The market is too saturated with lawyers.
8/29/2011 11:24:54 AM
^ True. I really don't understand why more and more people are deciding to go into law school and the accompanying 6 figure debt the way the economy is. Now, more than ever, a law degree does not guarantee you a job and a decent salary. The grads that can't find work just keep piling up with each passing year adding on with the recent graduates. Eesh...
8/29/2011 11:33:56 AM
^^^I don't think there's a chance in hell that the test this year was easier than it has been in the past. Also, for those of us still waiting for our results:
8/29/2011 11:34:15 AM
Wednesday? That is crazy. The MBE on this exam, at least, seemed crazy difficult. I would have thought the pass rate would be lower than last year for sure.
8/29/2011 12:30:40 PM
So, everyone that I know of that took the exam now has an answer... except for me. Yet another day that mine did not come.
8/29/2011 3:10:18 PM
Yay!! mail came! I passed!!
8/30/2011 2:34:38 PM
HURRAYCongrats
8/30/2011 4:07:38 PM
Congrats! The last big weight off your shoulder until your first big case...or until your first job acceptance. I can't describe the elation when I found out I passed the Bar.

Six figure debt loads are for suckers
8/31/2011 1:42:47 PM
yeah, suckers, or, ya know, people that went to private schools, didn't have massive scholarships, or lack wealthy parents.
8/31/2011 2:00:22 PM
Yeah maybe but why you'd ever go to a private school that's not T14 is beyond me
8/31/2011 2:12:18 PM
Well I'm at Wake. It's a private school below T14, and I'm very happy. Where did you go, just for the record?[Edited on August 31, 2011 at 6:47 PM. Reason : asd]

For the recent NC law school graduates and Bar passers...how is the job market in NC? Anyone hanging their own shingle?
9/14/2011 11:36:50 AM
I just passed the bar this summer, and started my job last week.I think I'm one of the lucky few who graduated with a job (UNC). I was amazed how long it took me to find a job, and my grades are kick-ass. I think the market sucks right now.One of my good friends has been out of law school, and in a fellowship for 2 years. Her fellowship ends Friday, and she hasn't been able to find work. She's hanging up her own shingle in criminal defense. But she even looked at places where she could work for pittance, or even near free, and no one has the space. She's got great experience, great grades, and a client base to work off of. I know of quite a few firms that are paying new attorneys in "experience only" because that's what they can afford.I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but it sucks out there right now. The market in NC is over-saturated, and it's not getting any better. Out of my 6 close-knit friends from UNC, all of us were in the top 1/3 at least (some of us better), and I am the ONLY one with a paying job right now.[Edited on September 14, 2011 at 3:38 PM. i'm interviewing with all the city public defender's offices, they take 18 interns and only make 2 or 3 offers
9/14/2011 4:09:25 PM
^Good luck. The person I'm referring to up there^^ did her post-law school fellowship with FTI, and she didn't even get a chance at the PD's office anywhere in the state. It's a sucky market. I hope you are able to get in on the internship level.
9/14/2011 4:48:52 PM
I'm heavily specializing but hopefully I'll be able to find something in a year.I'll have two years off and on with the NC Dept of Ag and an LLM in Food & Agriculture Law, which is actually needed in NC due to the large but under-served agricultural base. Now I just need to (a) have a government job open up or (b) convince a firm that I can bring in clients they wouldn't get otherwise.

Break out those crayons, and step away from the casebooks:http://www.sadanduseless.com/2011/02/coloring-book-for-lawyers/

HAHAHAHAHA ^ that is so damn awesome......I know what I'll be doing at the office tomorrow.
9/15/2011 5:35:10 PM
I fucking hate fucking law school so fucking much.
9/27/2011 1:18:31 PM
Don't fall victim to the sunk costs fallacy if you really hate it that much
9/27/2011 1:34:17 PM
What are you hating about law school? What year are you?The job market is not a guaranteed thing, if you're disliking things that will be similar to practicing law, I would echo the sentiment to get out while you can. If it's the jumping through hoops associated with most law schools--well, that's just par for the course.I will say, 3L year was the best for flexibility, but that just meant I got to keep my internship full time during the semester...

9/28/2011 8:17:58 AM
I'm a 3rd year, I'm going to follow through. I can't say what I don't like about it, but it isn't the subject matter or the difficulty. It's certain people in power...
9/28/2011 3:55:22 PM
Well hopefully when you graduate the change of scenery a bit is what you were looking for. One thing that should improve your disposition is a job. It's always better to be making money than spending it.
10/1/2011 12:58:31 AM
well i was feeling good until i bombed my midterm today. dresden bombed. we reviewed it right afterwards so there's not even a period where i feel like maybe i did ok. but then i heard afterwards that you'd be lucky to get half of the answers right so the curve is helpful and that people who bombed his exams last year got A's as final grades so i'm gonna hunker down.
10/3/2011 6:09:12 PM
Evidence?

yep

Anybody here working for a medium/large firm?I hung my own shingle about 6 months ago and things are going well, but inconsistent. I can crush it one month and then it's crickets chirping the next months. I know it's suppose to take a little while (especially in this economy) to build that consistent client base, but I'm extremely impatient.Opposing counsel in a small lawsuit I was involved with was impressed with how I handled my client's case and they've asked me if I would be interested in joining their firm (20 attorneys split between 3 offices). I'm extremely torn just thinking about it.The positives and negatives are pretty apparent. Immediate salary from them would probably double what I'm making right now...but I'm pretty confident I could reach that income as a solo attorney in 5 years, 7 years tops (every young solo guy I've met has hit that level in that amount of time). With big law firm I wouldn't have to worry about all the little shit (I have no secretary or paralegal) and it would be CONSISTENT (I capitalize that word because it's very important). After years of bartending crazy hours while in law school and while getting this firm started, I'd love to have a consistent Mon-Fri, 8-6pm job.I've been pretty excited about my current endeavor...but I also wasn't expecting this opportunity with a great firm to come along.Thoughts from people with experience with the big firms?
