booker has too much baggage already, not a good candidate

i think the DNC needs new leadership and a purge first, their strategy hasn't been working
11/9/2016 10:24:41 AM
^Agreed. Honestly, when you look back, Democrats have been losing at every level except the Presidency over the past 6 years. Step one is working at the state and local level to undo gerrymandering and then work their way up from there.
11/9/2016 10:27:40 AM
^^That and the fact they didn't listen to the people and actively colluded to ensure that Hillary was the candidate. Berniecrats were just considered sexist rather than acknowledging the grievance campaign (much of it from income inequality) and listen to the people.Reince Priebus was under pressure to change the rules at the Republican convention to make sure anybody but Trump was chosen as the Republican candidate. He let the will of the people ride and like it or not, the people turned out and they just won. I think it would have been a whole other ballgame if it had been Trump vs. Sanders. This morning I wonder who is more stunned, the Democrats who were all but certain this was in the bag for Hillary, or the Republicans who knew that this wackjob would run his course, go down in flames and then rebuild the party from the ashes. Instead they are in charge of it all?!?[Edited on November 9, 2016 at 10:48 AM. Reason : ]

the system was biased against him, but it wasn't rigged against him. clinton came in with a major advantage and he entered the race late and took awhile to get serious.i think theproblem is that they seemed to ignore all of the faults that should have been lessons from the primary
11/9/2016 10:51:05 AM
I at least felt like his acceptance speech went well enough. I hope maybe now that he has won he can at least keep that line of thinking going and be less divisive and cool it with the hateful speech. Also I felt it was very telling that Clinton didnt even bother acknowledging all the people who showed up to support her. Even if she had just said its been a long night thanks for coming out I am collecting my thoughts and will give my concession speech in the morning she should have at least taken a few minutes to talk with her supporters.[Edited on November 9, 2016 at 10:53 AM. Whatever medicine they have had him on for the past couple of weeks I wish they would make it permanent. If he keeps this up and drops his election rhetoric maybe he could actually be a decent president? Optimistic I know. And I agree, I did think that was rather petty of her. I understand she had to feel gutted, but at least go out and acknowledge those folks. They sat around all evening and were frequently caught crying on international TV and she didn't even come out and at least make a quick appearance. I wonder if she had not even prepared a concession speech?

^^The real win in this election is all the referendums that passed. Open primaries, marijuana, campaign finance reform, education funding, etc.
11/9/2016 11:44:30 AM
that's PART of why she lost- not the main or only reason. She lost because the electoral college worked in Trump's favor (it was originally designed to protect slave owners FWIW), but mostly because the divide between rural, urban, and suburban America is much sharper than we've come to expect in presidential elections. I know a lot of people argue Bernie would have won, but the fact that Trump defied all expectations is far more telling than anything else. The "shy" Trump voter was very, very real.and yep ^. I'm sitting pretty right now in CA. My job just got immensely safer. [Edited on November 9, 2016 at 11:46 AM. Reason : .]

^^^This election wasn't about policies and you know it. If it had been, Hillary would have won handily. Name a definitive policy position from Trump other than "build that wall" and "deport the illegals". You can't.[Edited on November 9, 2016 at 11:46 AM. Reason : .]

Kim Kardashian could win the presidency based on the precedent Trump just set. It's what America wants. Sometimes the simplest explanation, even one that defies logic, is the most accurate.
11/9/2016 11:49:44 AM
kim kardashian could mobilize white working americans like trump? okay.your "its what they want, look at the results" is pretty silly. if campaigns didn't impact results, no one would campaign. [Edited on November 9, 2016 at 11:51 AM. Reason : .]

^^but its the democratic party's fault for leaving behind such a large demographic and letting the republicans capture them. that used to be the democratic base, but they gave it away.i don't think its impossible to capture some of that demographic back, and I think the preliminary results are proof of that[Edited on November 9, 2016 at 12:02 PM. You don't think Trump trashing the Clinton legacy of NAFTA in each debate and vowing to renegotiate NAFTA and swear off TPP didnt resonate as policy with the rust belt?
11/9/2016 12:04:32 PM
11/9/2016 12:05:20 PM
^^^^I agree with that, mostly because it's impossible to deny based on the election results. Look, at the end of the day, Trump's margin of victory in the electoral college came from 150,000 votes spread across 3 states. That's not an impossible hill the climb.[Edited on November 9, 2016 at 12:06 PM. Reason : .]

Colorado (9), Florida (29), Maine (4), Michigan (16), Minnesota (10), Nevada (6), New Hampshire (4), New Mexico (5), Pennsylvania (20), Utah (6), Wisconsin (10)That's 11 states and 119 total electoral votes that were awarded to a candidate who received less than 50% of the votes within that state. That's 22% of the electoral college going to candidates when most people voted for somebody else.

The Dems get to take a licking for the next 4 years. If they're fortunate, they'll use this to galvanize their base and do better in 2020. I guess I'd rather have 4 years of Trump than 8 years of Hillary - this at least speeds up the infusion of fresh blood the next go-round. Granted, if I was going to get 4 years of Trump, it would have been nice to have a Democratic Senate with him to keep things from getting too out of hand. Ah well, thems the breaks.
11/9/2016 1:19:00 PM
The GOP hasn't exactly been friendly to the working class either. One question I have is will they also learn from their mistakes and govern to help who got them elected, or give us more neocon horseshit.

11/9/2016 1:44:55 PM
^ that's the sad/funny thing about trump. He has no allegiances. He's stabbed his family and business partners in the back his entire life-- it's literally his MO, and he's not shy about it.His transition team is made of establishment politicians and elites from banking and finance and military-industrial complex. If we judge him based on that, he's going to run the country like a neocon. But he could just as easily go rogue and stab his own team in the back too. We just have to wait and see at this point.
