So I logged in and was in the welcome center at night and I was checking out the fountain and a creeper walked up and -bam-I swear I didn't grief on purpose. ><And now I'm trying to build it back and it won't let me. Sorry![Edited on April 27, 2011 at 10:50 AM. Reason : No seriously, my bad.]
4/27/2011 10:43:37 AM
These are dark days.
4/27/2011 11:10:50 AM
Yes, learning to avoid creepers again has been quite the experience.
4/27/2011 11:13:23 AM
Yeah, I died and had to walk all the way from spawn and got caught on the Iron Road by two creepers. There may or may not be some minor damage to the road, but I swear it wasn't my fault
4/27/2011 1:02:31 PM
There's another server I mod (well, on and off) that uses a slew of mods, one of which is a mod that lets you store chunk memory up to five days, so you can reverse griefing instead of doing full-map backups. There's also a tool that lets you see who grieved.
4/27/2011 1:35:09 PM
So wait, is there no point in doing anything right now because it's just going to be reloaded?God damn it, and I finally had some downtime to play.
4/27/2011 1:52:36 PM
That was sort of the risk I took by putting the server online without mods. We can either reload the backup, or leave everything like it is. Depends on what the majority wants. Also, I'll be adding this when I set up the mod this weekend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHxduNH5kVY[Edited on April 27, 2011 at 2:11 PM. Reason : :o]
4/27/2011 2:10:28 PM
Someone hook me up with a copy of this. lol.
4/27/2011 2:13:46 PM
So walk me through this here, if we reload the backup and put in all the mods, will we lose all the stuff from recent releases (weather, etc.?)If not I guess my vote is go ahead and do the backup/mods. If we are going to lose all that shit I'm a nay.
4/27/2011 2:17:54 PM
No, you just lose everything that's changed in the last two days. I haven't done anything too substantial, so it's not a huge deal to me. I don't really mind playing it vanilla, but there's plenty of compelling reasons not to.
4/27/2011 2:21:52 PM
I want the newer version of minecraft... even if it means we have to deal with some bullshit.
4/27/2011 2:29:37 PM
Yeah, it will still be the updated Minecraft, just with the mods. The main mod and plugins have been updated to support the current MC version. It's going to be this weekend at least before I get a chance to do anything on it. I have a ton of projects to complete, as well as graduation stuff.
4/27/2011 2:49:24 PM
this is going to be pretty cool
4/27/2011 2:58:51 PM
Wait,What are mods? Do I have to download anything client side?I'm such a noob at this I swear.
4/27/2011 2:59:05 PM
I don't understand any of this and I haven't logged in for a while. I just don't get it
4/27/2011 3:04:38 PM
lol at Notch's penis mapportal mod looks badass
4/27/2011 4:25:44 PM
I will be happy either way as far as the server reload goes, would like to know soon, however, so I don't keep building/farming things that will be erased. Personally I vote planned pirate ship rebuild party. Slavery and pirate ships goes hand in hand and I feel we should embrace it!!
4/27/2011 8:03:36 PM
I agree with Yellowdart - Regardless of the decision, let us know sooner rather than later However, planned pirate ship rebuild would be a good excuse to get some activity and have some fun in a group project, and we could always rebuild it as an ironclad!
4/27/2011 8:53:43 PM
I can't find a wolf to save my life.
4/28/2011 1:46:58 AM
Yeah, I built a small hut and started creating a big ol' mine below it, but if it's not going to be saved, I'll probably just dick around on another server until this one comes back up.On a sidenote: restarting with nothing is tough beans sometimes.
4/28/2011 1:53:24 AM
^^^^^^^You don't have to do anything special for the mods. They just run on the server, adding to and changing the way basic game functions play out.
4/28/2011 10:00:04 AM
finally made it out to pirate's shipthat thing is mega hosed
4/29/2011 8:36:20 AM
So...I guess we decided to reset with all the mods? Any word on that?
4/30/2011 1:22:12 PM
So what's the story?Cause I really like the server I'm on right now.
4/30/2011 2:11:22 PM
I like it the way it is right now....I mean, feel free to put up some mods but no need to revert.[Edited on April 30, 2011 at 3:45 PM. Reason : ...]
4/30/2011 3:45:22 PM
Dang. I finally got a decent machine where I don't have to play on tiny draw distance all the time. Of course, now I'm pretty much bored with minecraft.
4/30/2011 4:01:46 PM
i'm with youisn't fucked that we need a "good" machine to play fucking minecraft?with the shittiest graphics of all time?
4/30/2011 4:10:34 PM
The other server I'm on right now has mods galore.I can lock chests, doors etc and I can warp around once I set a warp point.I mean it works.
4/30/2011 8:36:02 PM
jesus christ this game is murdering my computerI've been getting constant crashes trying to play on my own locally hosted server.screen turns brown, sound still plays (albeit at 10% speed or something, extremely distorted), computer restarts.I just got a bsod (the old school looking one with text) that corrupted my boot sector or something. It said "dumping physical memory", stuck at 20% and then rebooted. Then I got a black screen after the bios saying NTLDR not found, alt+ctrl+delete to restart. I got it working, although it seemed to decide to start booting again independent of my actions. Now I've got a fucked up .mcr file that won't copy, delete, move, etc. Gives me a "source file not found" error (so now I can't back up my shit). The server still loads but christ I'm afraid to even break a block given the current trend here. Loads in MCedit too, but with constant 20 second freezes as the afflicted region file loads. Fuck.
5/1/2011 2:00:05 AM
Yeah, I don't play it because I can't play it on my laptop. Feels bad, man
5/1/2011 3:51:20 AM
^^ It is a little bit buggy, but it looks like you may have just uncovered an existing hardware issue. I found out I had bad memory playing MC - it kept crashing, so I ran memtest and sure enough it was pretty bad. Got some new sticks and have had no issues at all.
5/1/2011 3:42:54 PM
It's not the most efficient game, and it never will be since Notch's below par coding is the cornerstone of the game, and no one else in his staff has the comprehensive ability to replace him in the process.
5/1/2011 4:19:24 PM
^^ yeah I'm gonna try memtest, I think a retarded stick of ram may be the root cause of all these crashes.I'm at a loss on how to recover the file though. Right now that is my main problem.
5/1/2011 4:23:06 PM
^^well, you've got to give the nerds something to lord over him as he sits against his bags of money and basks in the shine of creative awesome
5/1/2011 4:44:38 PM
5/1/2011 6:56:34 PM
chkdsk on startup fixed the corrupted files. yaymemtest was all clear on the first pass and 80% of the second before I called it quits.I guess it's just java being shitty.
5/1/2011 10:00:27 PM
5/2/2011 10:56:09 PM
About damn time...
5/3/2011 12:20:00 AM
^^I was gonna post that
5/3/2011 1:46:09 AM
The mods for Nether in SMP are pretty easy as is, it's hard to find a server that doesn't have it lately.
5/3/2011 2:18:13 AM
So tonight I found a brand new chunk has replaced the front half of my creeper statue, as well as blocking off all the caves below it. Before my jaw could even drop, the computer immediately crashed to a solid color screen, like it does every fucking time I play this game for more than 5 minutes now.Anyone else hosting a server and playing on it with the same machine? I know you guys are all mostly on saturnine's server. How often does the server crash by itself?I'm considering putting a cheap PC together for a couple hundred, as well as some spare parts lying around. Also thinking about moving to a third party host, although I'd prefer to keep it in-house.
5/5/2011 1:55:58 AM
seriously sounds like you have some fubared hardware. The only time I've had any crashes in Minecraft are on my work computer that has really a shit video card in it that crashes all the time anyway.
5/5/2011 11:27:01 AM
^I'm beginning to wonder if my video card is in need of replacement/summary execution. It's sad because it's a GTX295 which is still highly ranked in terms of computing power. I've been getting tons of driver failures that crash the game but not the system (although I'm chalking that up to nvidia releasing a shitty version). The crashes are bizzare and occur seemingly random, sometimes when I'm walking around, standing still, or right after breaking a block. Screen turns into a solid color, winamp still plays in the background, but at like 10% speed. The computer eventually restarts itself, or I have to hold the button down to shut it off. I'm probably just going to move it to a hosting company. Oh well.
5/5/2011 11:46:18 AM
omg the sever said it's updating
5/5/2011 2:27:56 PM
how we doingMAN
5/6/2011 10:46:58 PM
"Connection Refused"?
5/7/2011 1:43:24 PM
where is the stick?and how do we nudge you to get on it?
5/7/2011 3:15:06 PM
so, uh, what's going on?
5/9/2011 12:34:30 PM
So are updated? Not updated? Fucked forever?
5/9/2011 3:07:19 PM
still waiting
5/9/2011 6:28:23 PM
