Not taken by me...in fact, not even taken with a dSLR. But I still think they're awesome pics.

I got my 30D wet today.Really wet. I figured in the bottom of my bag and covered with an umbrella I'd be fine, but somehow the bag got water in it and the camera sat in it for a while. I took the batteries out and am hoping for the best.I don't wanna have to send my camera off AGAIN![Edited on November 7, 2006 at 3:40 PM. Reason : ]

man, that sucks

my first attempt with photoshop
11/7/2006 4:36:30 PM
Damn...nice picture !
11/7/2006 4:49:08 PM
^^suggestion, bring the white point in a good bit (to about 180) and it'll add a little more pop to the picture.
11/7/2006 4:52:44 PM
^I will give that a try^^ thanks
11/7/2006 4:55:05 PM
I'd also crop the blwon out sky from the top left of the picture and make it a more extreme horizontal. The top left is distracting. And stowaway was right with the white point.

Trip to Hanging Rock State Park a few weeks ago:I think this was 20 shots, used autostitch.Big: http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=270949257&size=oTaken from a friend's place off the parkway in VA.Crappy day usually = crappy pics, but I kind of like this one after processing.[Edited on November 8, 2006 at 12:59 AM. maybe i shouldn't be posting this in this thread, but i thought it would be the quickest way to get an answeri'm looking for one of those collapsible white chambers that you use to take "professional" pictures of small-medium sized objects...know what i'm talking about? i tried searching on google, but i think i'm missing a keywordi would assume camera shops around here (southeastern camera?) would have them, but they're probably 10 times more expensive than i'd like
11/8/2006 11:50:29 AM
They are pretty expensive, at least they can be for big ones. The magazine I was checking out the other day was advertising a 6x6 foot one for something like 1200 bucks. Small ones aren't so bad, and you can go to a larger Wolf Camera and ask about them.[Edited on November 8, 2006 at 12:06 PM. Reason : .]

^Cool... but is it still alive?

Presumably. I managed to scoot it outside with a paper towel and it scurried off.
11/9/2006 10:59:44 PM
any quick online guides for filer usage?I'm particularly interested in how to optimize the use of my circular polarizing filter. Apparently, I should be doing something with that outer rotating ring, and possibly something with my white balance.
11/9/2006 11:10:08 PM
Googled for it:http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/how-to-use-and-buy-polarizing-filters/Looks like it will give you a start... basically you rotate the filter to get whatever effect you're going for, like clear water, deep blue sky, etc.The 2 pictures at Hanging Rock that I posted above used a polarizer. I should have spent more time choosing a better setting for it before shooting the panorama - then not touching it between shots. Oh well.

I shot my second basketball game last night, and I must say that basketball is now my favorite sport to shoot.I came back with a LOT of really good images. It made my night.(Does it make me a nerd if the quality of my day is directly proportionate to the quality/quantity of pictures I took that day?)

can everyone please avoid using the save for web option in photoshop. It removes the exif data which some of us love seeing on really nice shots.

don't believe i sharpened it. its cropped in a good bit. didn't change the color at all. mostly just cropped and lightened up because it was under exposed.
11/14/2006 9:12:41 PM
^5 white balance was set to incandecent instead of shade or cloudy.^ something put some sharpening in there, either camera or editing program. [Edited on November 14, 2006 at 9:15 PM. Reason : ]
11/14/2006 9:14:47 PM
i think i did some sharpening to this one. i did more stuff to it obviously.i think its just the fact that its cropped in so much. but i can check again i guess.
11/14/2006 9:19:01 PM
that is a great shot.
11/14/2006 9:21:26 PM
i did sharpen it. 100% at 1.0 radius. probably didn't think about it when i did it. i recropped it. and look at the 2. honestly there is still a bit of a halo at that crop size though... strange.[Edited on November 14, 2006 at 9:34 PM. Nice pics, cheezcurd. You can give Lightroom a download if you're looking for something to edit with. It's meant for RAWs but it does an alright job with JPEG as well. Plus it's still free!http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom/
