Feels like a lot of misdirected frustration here. People upset about the loan forgiveness maybe should really direct their anger at what seems to be an increasingly broken education system.

hasn't the cost to buy a car shot up like crazy over the past two years anyway? Are you saying that this is all Biden's fault?

Duke, let's be honest, you're just trying to justify to yourself to vote for DeSantis. You keep side stepping the questions about his march towards authoritarianism and ignoring his homophobic attacks.

^^ what have i sidestepped?I don’t want to vote for him and currently have no plans to. All I’m saying is that I am not yet prepared to say “no way” until I see what that election shapes up to be. There are, however, red lines. That doesn’t mean I have no problem with anything short of any red lines. And in any case, this has nothing to do with that. It’s like you guys somehow can’t resolve that I hate Trumpism with a fire that I expect even many liberals don’t match, but I’m still center-right and don’t approve of bullshit leftist wealth redistribution and money wasting.[Edited on August 25, 2022 at 10:32 PM. just gonna assume that HaLo post is some sort of satire
8/25/2022 9:21:13 PM
Other than people who only owe 10-20k is anybody entirely happy about this? I was supposed to have my loans completely cancelled after 10 years of teaching until Betsy Devos changed a lot of the rules, so I'm still stuck with a really high balance- even after getting pell grants during my undergrad. I think it's a step in the right direction, but as someone pointed out, the anger about it being 'fair' is sort of a distraction from the core of the issue: college tuition is out of control, it has been for years, and something needs to be done because it's a huge problem that's not going to go away.
8/25/2022 9:22:25 PM
much easier to be happy about this than other industries getting even bigger subsidies
8/25/2022 9:31:28 PM

due to the narrow cancellation of student debt?[Edited on August 25, 2022 at 9:34 PM. Reason : .]
8/25/2022 9:34:24 PM
^Ford price increaseAlthough debt cancellation will also have an inflationary effect, not a big one but it will be there
8/25/2022 9:36:52 PM
Honestly, how? Student loan payback was already paused. It's not like most of these people had 10k in the bank waiting to spend it on loans
8/25/2022 10:04:39 PM
Before I answer your simple question I’d like the data that supports
8/25/2022 10:08:41 PM
I mean, it's mostly common sense that shouldn't need a source, but sure
8/25/2022 10:29:43 PM
So those that received the 10k now have 10k more “to spend” so now things get more expensive because demand goes up. Like I said the inflationary affect is low but it is inflationary.Does anyone know if the cancellation is considered taxable? I’d assume so since it was done outside of a tax code change[Edited on August 25, 2022 at 10:41 PM. Reason : .]
8/25/2022 10:36:39 PM
Mate, you're not answering the question.Student loan repayment was already paused, what proof do you have that these people are suddenly going to spend 10k on the economy? If you're 40k in debt, not paying it back, and suddenly it goes to 30k in debt...where are they spending money? You back up your point now[Edited on August 25, 2022 at 10:46 PM. Reason : A]
8/25/2022 10:45:03 PM
You’re correct, since the payments are currently paused the inflationary affect won’t be felt until after the payments resume. Your data shows that 90% are making payments on time so if that 90% has their payment go from 500/month to 400/month they will actually have 100 extra per month (which causes inflation) when they start repaying. Of course restarting the payments will have a pretty healthy deflationary affect (which is why Biden delayed until after the election again).[Edited on August 25, 2022 at 11:08 PM. Reason : .]
8/25/2022 11:07:13 PM
And that also makes the assumption that people won't make the same payment to pay off their loan quicker.Even if there was an inflationary impact, it won't be felt for some time and it would likely be statistically insignificance. It's not like you're writing a check for 10k to people
8/25/2022 11:13:42 PM
Cfnc said payment pause for past 2+ years didn’t apply to them. Some say this may not apply either. Isn’t cfnc like federal money?

StTexan, I got the same script from CFNC.Then I got on a chat with DoED, and they said that I had federal loans, thus I applied to the announcement. So when you fill out your FAFSA, you are assigned to a servicer for the loan - you have no choice. I, just like you, was assigned to CFNC. Their loans are federally funded but not federally owned, but seems like, coming from the horses mouth (DoED), we will be able to claim forgiveness.
