Why does Michelle Obama keep getting thrown around as an ideal candidate? Why does a First Lady qualify as a good President? Because she'd know where stuff is in the White House? Definitely would be better than Trump, but are these really the best ideas America has? Why do folks like the idea of political dynasties? We had two Bushes and tried for three. We tried for two Clintons. Come on.

If you fail to effectively present your thoughts that's on you

Nobody ever names a group but means a significant minority of that group.

To be fair, a reminder that this is Chit Chat for the 20 users still on this archaic message board was pretty useful.

Chit Chat is the only semi-active section on this site, so it becomes a catch-all. The other sections are purely for archival purposes.

It's all relative.

Trump is the best rehabilitation for GWB's legacy among those enduring both presidencies that he could ever hope for.

Trump will need 4 more years or a 2nd covid wave to even approach GWBs body count for Iraq alone. His legacy of entrenching presidential power also helps along much of what Trump can get away with.

Not to mention Samuel Alito

Well if somebody offered today to replace Trump with GWB, I'm not sure I would take it. Especially since GWB would likely face an easier reelection.

If you told me I could have 4 more years of one or the other, I'd have to think pretty hard.

I think the difference is GWB is far more effective in getting things done, things I usually consider bad, whereas as Trump is semi successful at that but also an agent of chaos. It's two bad choices and I'd rather have neither. How's that for a cop out?

^feel good videos like that are just that...makes you feel good and nothing more. I’d be surprised if that accomplished anything. There’s people yelling the tired trope “what about black on black crime?!” towards the end of the video. At best, some people walk away from that thinking “those were some of the good ones” instead of actually changing their world view. They’ve been told for years that the media is the enemy, that protestors and paid antifa members, that cops are all heroes, that BLM is a radical and non-peaceful group. That interaction probably won’t change their greater view of Trump, BLM, police brutality, etc.

That video is cool and all. But that isn’t what America needs imo. I mean, those interactions aren’t bad. But it isn’t solving anything when the president continues to promote hatred and racism and stoke the flames and police brutality continues to go unchecked.

OEPII1, We are definitely right in the middle of amateur hour when it comes to the person in charge. Most of us agree. We really don't need your commentary on how shitty things are. A lot of folks can just look right outside their windows and see.

I couldn't think of a worse combination of factors to creep up on someone so unprepared for the two biggest issues we're facing right now. Trump ran on fixing the economy, and whether anything he did directly impacted it or not, the economy was humming along before COVID-19. But he's a one-trick pony.

There are so many ways I could imagine just about anyone else doing a much better job and quelling the unrest that's going on right now. And Trump is doing the absolute opposite of what I think he should be doing. It looks like there are quite a few Republicans in DC that feel the same way I do.

Are there actually? There’s always been a segment of the GOP that will occasionally call out Trump’s worst offenses while continuing to support and push his agenda and take no real steps to separate themselves from Trump.

Then every once in awhile he posts something super right-wing / offensive (his true colors) .... wash & repeat.

[Edited on June 2, 2020 at 9:32 AM. Reason : i would love being proven wrong.. i dont think hes evil]

LAPD Union attorney Marla Brown says protesters should be shot.

"Its no wonder the black community never improves its lot. No responsibility. No consequences. At this point they deserve the result."

"Let CVS leave the neighborhood. Along with Whole Foods and every other quality business. And then watch these sand thugs complain about no businesses in the area."

THis should be posted over and over again.

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/06/james-mattis-denounces-trump-protests-militarization/612640/

Quote :
"James Mattis, the esteemed Marine general who resigned as secretary of defense in December 2018 to protest Donald Trump’s Syria policy, has, ever since, kept studiously silent about Trump’s performance as president. But he has now broken his silence, writing an extraordinary broadside in which he denounces the president for dividing the nation, and accuses him of ordering the U.S. military to violate the constitutional rights of American citizens."

Quote :
"
In Union There Is Strength

I have watched this week’s unfolding events, angry and appalled. The words “Equal Justice Under Law” are carved in the pediment of the United States Supreme Court. This is precisely what protesters are rightly demanding. It is a wholesome and unifying demand—one that all of us should be able to get behind. We must not be distracted by a small number of lawbreakers. The protests are defined by tens of thousands of people of conscience who are insisting that we live up to our values—our values as people and our values as a nation.

When I joined the military, some 50 years ago, I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution. Never did I dream that troops taking that same oath would be ordered under any circumstance to violate the Constitutional rights of their fellow citizens—much less to provide a bizarre photo op for the elected commander-in-chief, with military leadership standing alongside.

We must reject any thinking of our cities as a “battlespace” that our uniformed military is called upon to “dominate.” At home, we should use our military only when requested to do so, on very rare occasions, by state governors. Militarizing our response, as we witnessed in Washington, D.C., sets up a conflict—a false conflict—between the military and civilian society. It erodes the moral ground that ensures a trusted bond between men and women in uniform and the society they are sworn to protect, and of which they themselves are a part. Keeping public order rests with civilian state and local leaders who best understand their communities and are answerable to them.

James Madison wrote in Federalist 14 that “America united with a handful of troops, or without a single soldier, exhibits a more forbidding posture to foreign ambition than America disunited, with a hundred thousand veterans ready for combat.” We do not need to militarize our response to protests. We need to unite around a common purpose. And it starts by guaranteeing that all of us are equal before the law.

Instructions given by the military departments to our troops before the Normandy invasion reminded soldiers that “The Nazi slogan for destroying us…was ‘Divide and Conquer.’ Our American answer is ‘In Union there is Strength.’” We must summon that unity to surmount this crisis—confident that we are better than our politics.

Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people—does not even pretend to try. Instead he tries to divide us. We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership. We can unite without him, drawing on the strengths inherent in our civil society. This will not be easy, as the past few days have shown, but we owe it to our fellow citizens; to past generations that bled to defend our promise; and to our children.

We can come through this trying time stronger, and with a renewed sense of purpose and respect for one another. The pandemic has shown us that it is not only our troops who are willing to offer the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of the community. Americans in hospitals, grocery stores, post offices, and elsewhere have put their lives on the line in order to serve their fellow citizens and their country. We know that we are better than the abuse of executive authority that we witnessed in Lafayette Square. We must reject and hold accountable those in office who would make a mockery of our Constitution. At the same time, we must remember Lincoln’s “better angels,” and listen to them, as we work to unite.

Only by adopting a new path—which means, in truth, returning to the original path of our founding ideals—will we again be a country admired and respected at home and abroad.

But yes, adults in the room is good so ok.

Now I applaud him for coming forward with that statement. Hopefully more to come from others. Hell put the guy on TV that would probably be powerful.

BC it's better to speak up now than never I guess, but he tacitly endorsed all of Trump's other criminal actions and horrible policies. He's a hawk that wants us at war with Iran and wanted to give more support to Saudi Arabia in the war against Yemen.
