if we are thinking about the same run, he had like at least 3 defenders around him and between him and the goal. I guess you could hope for a deflection but there wasn't any time that I saw a a clear alley to the goal for him.

I can understand what you mean though, and sometimes people hold on to the ball too long looking for the perfect opportunity. That is one thing I have complained about for years with our team.

^^they were highly outnumbered, i just figured the two options were take a wild shot, or just give up possession...i'd rather take a wild shot

here's the thing with that. if our mids were hustling, pulling the ball up like he did and not shooting allows us to get our numbers up and try and set up a good play while we have possession. However, the rest of the team was slacking ass and he just got stripped trying to hold on to the ball.

But I am definitely in favor of us taking more shots, especially against a suspect keeper like Green.

Given that their goalie is shaken I'd make him defend anything you can throw at him.

exactly....

i mean the company line is you put that goal behind you and just move forward and play your best.

but there's not a snowflakes chance in hades green can manage to forget fucking up on a level seldom seen in the world cup if ever. I mean that was the bonehead of all bonehead plays.

pepper his ass and dont let him get back into a rhythm, it's going to wear on him

^^^ oh definitely, I'm the one that defended some of our long shots early on because I knew their keeper was weak. I was just pointing out why you'll see that happen a lot in games this WC when the attackers are vastly outnumbered.

But yea, look what I said just 60s before we scored,

as one fo the "32 best goalkeepers in the entire planet"

you should beable to make that stop on a sheet of ice with no hands blind folded.

I'd need to watch the replay again (as I was pretty dumbfounded and stunned when it actually happened) but I think he was out of position either way. Fielding the ball with your body off to the side is something that shouldn't have been done on a ball like that that only had a medium pace on it.

He should have had time to field it correctly in which case the ball bouncing/slipping off your hands hits your body, not the back of the net.

^^^^ it's the keeper. If that ball was on ice and the keepers hands were frostbitten, 99% of world cup goalies would make that save.

I feel a little (little) bad for him. He was screened, didn't see the ball off the foot (you can tell by the angle from the goal) and it skidded off the field. But like I said, it has to be made.

besides the lucky goal, i'm really impressed with how well our team is passing and moving on and off the ball. england are really missing a good defensive midfield right now, because bradley, dempsey and donovan have all day to pass the ball around inside their half.

if our defense gets better, we should do well.

yea we are looking better up top than I thought we would. We definitely need to keep it up and finish some legit goals though if our defense doesn't improve.

Dear Robert Green,

You should be ashamed at letting in a weak goal like that!

I've still got faith that England will put another one in, and the US really hasn't had much going offensively, so GO, ENGLAND!

Gerrard has had some good touches on both sides of the ball, although most of his good defensive plays were early in the half and he's been less busy ever since. But if he picks up again and Rooney can start getting involved, they'll get another goal at some point with the pressure they've been keeping up.

Yeah, Carragher's tackle would have been a red card if the same ref from the France match yesterday was calling the game.

^^yea.

some people might disagree, but i feel like the US has looked as good or better than England this second half. Defense is definitely suspect still but I feel our midfield play is better than theirs and both teams are seeing chances up top.
