also good points...i know for a fact that i didn't have any software installed for the keyboard/mouse on vista, but win7 automatically detected the devices during an update and installed the updated drivers (which included the microsoft software)...i can't remember when that happened, though, and if i was having this trouble before then or noti'll check my bios and device manager settings at lunch and see what's up...it may be pretty simplethanks for the suggestions...it likely has nothing to do with win7 except possibly in regards to some default settings

threadjack atempt from the last page:I'm actually trying to get WoL working, so I can ssh/rsync stuff from work. I was able to wake it up from actual shutdown, but I guess normally it sleeps and I'm not able to wake it from work. Anybody know any more about WoL? Do you have to do something different to wake it from sleep vs. powered off?
11/11/2009 11:38:27 AM
my guess would be something in the bios to enable wake from sleep mode. idk though, i've never used wol

W7x64anyone else get a "Windows explorer has stopped working" errors? i heard of it happening in beta, but not RTM, this freaking sucks, already formatted and reinstalled and it's back.... i was hoping it was a bad install disc but it's most definitely a bug, i'm getting it quite frequently now.http://www.blogsdna.com/2137/fix-windows-installer-explorer-update-has-stopped-working-in-windows-7.htmi'll probably need to run sfc /scannow
11/11/2009 11:46:45 AM
I get that shit all the timedoesn't seem to hurt anything, it restarts in a couple of seconds.
11/11/2009 11:50:40 AM

11/11/2009 12:51:27 PM

11/11/2009 12:51:54 PM

^A quote from a manager who didn't have anything to do with the look and feel of Windows 7 What part of "Partner Group Manager" tells you this guy has any insight into the quote he made? Way to buy into the retardedness of the blogosphere. People say stupid things everyday, it doesn't make them true (I should know, I do it all the time )
11/12/2009 3:10:55 AM
I agree. That guy's comment means squat
11/12/2009 4:08:30 AM
Wow, what an idiot.By the way, here's an official response to tell us all that he is full of it:http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/11/11/how-we-really-designed-the-look-and-feel-of-windows-7.aspx

Do you enjoy using the stock Windows 7 themes? Turns out that there are hidden regional themes tucked away on the hard drive:%WINDIR%\Globalization\MCT\Just go into each subdir and open the .themepack file to install them.http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/guides/2009/11/unlock-hidden-windows-7-themes.ars

There are a bunch of battery life reviews out today comparing Win7 to XP on portables.http://blog.laptopmag.com/stick-with-xp-windows-7-battery-life-worse-on-netbooksThey all basically show Win7 reduces battery life by 10-16%. Might be worth sticking to XP for a while after all

11/13/2009 4:00:35 PM
LOL
11/13/2009 4:04:25 PM
imagine that... a more bloated OS uses more battery life. who would have thought?
11/13/2009 4:33:04 PM
who said it was bloated?
11/13/2009 4:42:25 PM
people who have no idea what they are talking about.
11/13/2009 4:58:24 PM
seriously...Noen stands behind this product so I trust that its perfect.
11/13/2009 4:59:10 PM
meh, it's been awesome for me.
11/13/2009 5:03:49 PM
You don't say fuel economy went down in a car because it's bloated. There can be hundreds of reasons why. Not the least of which being that Mobile Power Management tools for hardware don't even really exist yet for Win7 (they are all just compat ports of the Vista/XP PM tools).Give it time, battery life will improve and we will all continue to live our lives. Not to mention the inherit differences in running say XP themes and Aero themes. I wouldn't say hardware accelerated UI is bloat, but it's certainly going to be more power hungry.
11/13/2009 5:05:38 PM
seriously. outside of the long install time i had in one case, win7 is very impressive so far.
11/13/2009 5:05:44 PM
^^^for me as well... just like picking on Noen for his Microsoft obsession.[Edited on November 13, 2009 at 5:06 PM. Reason : ^]
11/13/2009 5:06:04 PM
Doesn't he work at Microsoft?
11/13/2009 5:13:34 PM
yup, but he's taken fanboy to another level. lol
11/13/2009 5:14:11 PM

11/13/2009 5:17:21 PM
So i was just installing Zune on windows 7 and i got to the screen that asks me to start or go to settings...well I didn't click on anything for a while because I Was talking to someone and when I turned back around there was a windows 7 dialog box saying something along the lines of "You haven't made a selection, is this screen displayed properly?" where the f did that come from?

Yeah, those are just features. Bloat is when new features are disproportionate to the additional size and impact on speed of the product in which they are delivered, and in this case, imo, it's not bloated.
