apparently boogie mccray (hs ATH, recruited as a S) has committed but has grade issues, so no tellin if he'll be here in the fall or not. right now i don't think he projects as a full qualifier.

Julian Burnett commits to GT
12/12/2008 3:24:25 PM
Jarvis Byrd now a 4* on rivals
12/12/2008 3:37:56 PM
How nice of rivals to "reevaluate" Byrd after FSU offers him
12/12/2008 4:07:03 PM
^ Proof positive TOB can land 4*'s. They're just 4*'s nobody knew were 4*'s at the time. Haha.
12/12/2008 4:12:35 PM
Two big losses todayEdwin Herbert commits to FloridaJonathan Meeks commits to Clemson
12/14/2008 2:22:06 PM
fucki was really hoping we'd get Herbert.well, maybe that leaves room for Michael Lemon. He would be just as good, probably better....he's a big boy.
12/14/2008 2:28:43 PM
^Let's hope he has his life in order now. He was dismissed from Georgia this year after a felony battery charge. He was also dealing from the death of his mother who was killed by her fiancee the year before. With Mangram and Palmer at GMC, maybe they can let him know if he wants to play ball here, he has to play by TOB rules.
12/14/2008 2:38:58 PM
i was hoping for meeks

yeah, well, Lemon beat the shit out of some dude after having some terrible shit happen. Noone is perfect.dudes a beast.

Count on Jarvis Byrd ending up at Fl St.
12/15/2008 9:51:02 AM
it would be nice if you would post something as to why he is going to end up FSU instead of just some statement.
12/15/2008 9:56:31 AM
he spoke to fabalus who confirmed this.
12/15/2008 10:16:01 AM
i figured they must be roomies
12/15/2008 10:48:08 AM
So even though there are only 3 scholarships left we'll probably sign 25 or more players just b/c of the usual attrition right?
12/15/2008 10:57:25 AM
We have Reed visiting Byrd today. But after reading the last bit from Byrd, it really sounds like FSU is going to steal this one like Clemson took Culliver a couple of years ago.He said his childhood dream was to play for FSU and that it might be too good of an opportunity to turn down.We might have gotten screwed over when they set the Miami game to noon so he couldn't come visit during a game, think had he made it to see us beat Miami we'd have locked him up. As it stands now I'm not sold on us getting him either.Coleman is hard to read, he said the only difference between us and Iowa appears to be the city structure with Iowa being in a small college town and us being in a larger city, but couldn't get a read to which he preferred. We had a couple of good weeks there but right now we're missing on a lot of people. Hopefully we can beat Rutgers and carry a lot of momentum for the 2010 class which I have a feeling is going to be huge for TOB.
12/15/2008 11:23:26 AM
^^ some of our recruits will enroll in January, so they can be counted on last year's 25
12/15/2008 11:28:41 AM
Well I was commenting more on how many scholarships we have left.
12/15/2008 12:16:52 PM
That would suck to lose byrd. I was pumped about him as well as the some other commits before they were upgraded. The film on some of our guys so far is insane. I kind of like these under the radar commits that we're getting where you watch the film and go "god damn". Much better than these combine freak 4*s where you watch the film and go "I just don't see it"[Edited on December 15, 2008 at 12:23 PM. Reason : ]
12/15/2008 12:22:21 PM
12/15/2008 12:42:05 PM
Yeah it sounds like now we're going to have to convince him NOT to go to FSU instead of FSU trying to convince him to leave.Either way I'm sure TOB and staff will work hard. I figured we'd beat out Wake for his services with no problems but FSU is going to be very tough. Hopefully he understands loyalty and realizes FSU probably didn't know about him until he committed to us.Think AJ Ferguson might have committed but that hasn't been confirmed yet.
12/15/2008 1:53:58 PM
Hopefully Reed will stress the opportunity to play early that our football program can present to him.
12/15/2008 2:09:34 PM
12/15/2008 2:20:15 PM
jarvis byrd is now listed as a "soft verbal" on rivals. i can understand the kid wanting to change his mind if FSU is his dream school, but you would think BB would have kept in touch with him early and let him know he might get an offer later in the year.
12/15/2008 2:28:32 PM

12/15/2008 3:28:56 PM
here's some filmhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ublSHT3Ucsthe footage isn't too good (quality-wise), but i can imagine he'd be a serviceable TE or DE
12/15/2008 3:40:37 PM
He has played LB, DE, and TE in high school and he appears to be a solid athlete. I think after a red-shirt year he'll be a solid player for us. If not on the 2-deep at DE I could see him being a contributor on special teams. Apparently he's over 250lbs and on the 200-meter relay team. Hopefully another "diamond-in-the-rough" type player for us.
12/15/2008 4:08:11 PM
Scout has us listed as no interest for Leon Mackey, along with CU, UT, and Arkansas. Georgia, LSU, and UNC are listed as medium interest. This seems odd since he already took 3 of his OVs to Arkansas, CU, and State, leaving Mackey only two OVs left.Remaining uncommitted players holding an offer from State (Medium Interest or higher):Xavier Nixon - ***** - OTMarcus Hall - ***** - OT Justin Brown - **** - WR Travis Bond - **** - OTJason Ankrah - **** - DEQuinton Washington - **** - OGJamil Merrell - *** - WLBLuke Kuechly - *** - SLBAntwon Higgs - *** - SLBAsa Watson - *** - TERaynard Randolph - *** - DTIzaan Cross - *** - DEJulius Forte - *** - DEAkeem Spence - *** - DT Kadeem Custis - *** - OTKinsman Thomas - *** - WRDuran Christophe - *** - OTJairus Jones - *** - SClinton Simpkins - *** - DECarvin Powell - *** - WRGreg Pratt - *** - RB Andrew Tiller - *** - OT - JCJarrell Harrison - *** - S - JC Frankie Davis - *** - DTDeion Roberson - *** - DTLuke Sager - *** - DEDale Peterman - *** - CBTravis Small - *** - RBJosh Jackson - ** - DEWilliam Pratcher - RBBrian Jordan - ** - DEGus Handler - ** - OGConor O'Neal - ** - DTDonald Coleman - ** - S

12/15/2008 5:31:12 PM
^Yeah my bad, but yeah you got the point.I'd go ahead and knock out the first 4-5 names on that list you posted. Nixon will end up at Florida, Hall took us off a while back I think. Don't think we're really in it with Brown and I think everyone feels Bond is UNC bound. I've heard rumblings about Ankrah but I don't think we're really in it anymore. And go ahead take off Jarrell Harrison, he's eliminated us because of distance today along with Arizona. We'll likely take 4-5 more this class and I'm hoping some of those are along the OL and maybe another S.
12/15/2008 7:49:40 PM
Oh and we're out of it with Mackey because he doesn't have the foreign language requirements to enter State. I think some rumblings lately has been he's a silent verbal to Clemson.
12/15/2008 7:57:04 PM
I just read the 'nolesdigest article on Byrd. It amazes me that a school can ignore a player their entire career and just show up after the fact, promise him the world, and steal him from the team that went out on a limb to give him his first bigtime offer. His comments are rather pathetic considering that FSU didn't really talk to him until he committed to NC State. We're gonna have to get him laid a dozen times on his official to keep him.
12/15/2008 11:06:50 PM
^can you post the article plz?or pm it too me if its not safe to post[Edited on December 15, 2008 at 11:19 PM. Reason : pm]

http://www.starnewsonline.com/article/20081215/ARTICLES/812150265/1005?Title=A_J__Ferguson_will_stay_in_N_C__for_footballA.J. Ferguson will stay in N.C. for footballSouth Brunswick senior defensive end A.J. Ferguson verbally committed to play for N.C. State on Monday. The 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive end helped lead the Cougars to a 10-3 record and the third round of the 2AA state playoffs. It is the deepest postseason run the program has made.“He’s worked very hard, he’s become a better athlete,” said coach Gordon Walters. “I just think N.C. State is getting a good person and a good football player.”Ferguson, a four-year starter, said he was also getting interest from Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina and Western Carolina. He picked the Wolfpack because it was close to home and he likes the coaching staff.“They showed me a lot of love,” he said, “and I just like the movement they’ve got up there.”The Wolfpack won its final four games of the regular season and will play in the Papajohns.com Bowl in Birmingham, Ala., on Dec. 29.Ferguson had been hearing from ECU, VT, and UNC. It's pretty hard to get noticed where he's at. The South Brunswick program plays in 2AA and hasn't been all that great. He attended three games this year. The Wake game was the last game he went to. He seems to really love State. I want those kinds of guys here, the ones that generally love the school, the campus, and the program. Watch this guy end up being all-conference by the time TOB is done with him and UNC's guys loaded up with STAAAS will wish they were as productive as this guy.South Brunswick past records04-05: 1-905-06: 3-506-07: 6-607-08: 7-408-09: 10-3 (lost to #2 seed Forrest Hills in the third round of the 2AA state playoffs)
12/16/2008 12:14:52 AM
Sounds like a prototypical 3-4 DE. The one constant I love is that all the recruits we're getting seem to be high character leaders.
12/16/2008 12:27:26 AM
no one cares about that shit. what really matters is how many stars he has
12/16/2008 12:53:16 AM
how many stars do college freshmen have?
12/16/2008 1:02:07 AM
^^^ it's amazing how much that perspective changes in the basketball recruiting thread.
12/16/2008 1:33:50 AM
^stars matter much more in college basketball. Its easier for kids to get noticed in college basketball because of the MILLIONS and MILLIONS of AAU tournaments and invitationals, etc, etc, etc. This allows all the top players to play each other which really shows who the best of the best is. Also, Its just ALOT easier for the analysts and experts to see all of the major basketball players than it is for analysts to see all the major football players.
12/16/2008 2:49:09 AM
it's a lot easier to be optimistic about football right now.
12/16/2008 2:58:12 AM
Our OL recruit Good rated as #2 player for first day of Shrine Bowl practice behind J. Boyd (UNC - WR).
12/16/2008 8:59:16 AM
Yeah Good was considered a major diamond in the rough when he first signed with us as a 2-star. He was then rated by Burke of Scout as a 4-Star G. This led to a lot of discussion as to why he hasn't been moved all the way up to 4-star and is instead the first 3-star on the board because of various people needing to move down and crap. I really think Good is going to be a great pick-up and in a few years he'll be a major contributor in the middle of our potentially awesome OL.It looks like we're also in good shape with 3* S Jarius Jones but it will be a while before he takes his OV(Jan) so who knows where he'll end up.
