Anyone doing the Tuna 200 next weekend? I didn't even know about the event, but got asked at last minute to join a team, replacing another runner whom was injured. Starts at Lake Benson and goes relay style to Atlantic Beach.

Ran the autism run yesterday. Ran it around 32 minutes. Probably the best 3.2 mile time i've ran.

My brother is going to be 50 in November. He just ran a 28 minute 5k. I am so proud of him.

I've been rehabbing an oblique fracture of my 4th toe on my right foot for a month now. (The same dammed foot I sprained.) I'm so excited about getting back on it to run in a week or so. Really sad about sitting out a November tough mudder some of my cohorts will be doing.

Soooooo Sad. The race I have been training for in Philly on Nov 17th is sold out for the 1/2 marathon. The full is still open and my wife and friends will be doing that one, but my 1/2 is sold out.

So, I'm doing the Wakefield Thanksgiving race here. That gives me 2 extra weeks of training since I was already 2 weeks behind on my schedule

Two things.

So it looks like I wont be running the Veterans 5K, I won't be coming down to NC that weekend but it's a great organization to support- so if you can, come out and run it. http://www.fsseries.com/index.php?action=event&event_id=696

Also, anyone on here signed up for the MCM and worried about cancellation?

I signed up and saw on twitter that it was in jeopardy . I'm not all that worried though. I think the whole government-game-of-chicken will end soon, and they'll get it off.

and if they dont, oh well. I'll go out and run another race or two to make up for it.

well just in case, this was just posted

"Attention all Marine Corps Marathon Runners:

As you have been notified, a final decision on the running of the October 27th, 2013 Marine Corps Marathon will be made on Saturday, October 19th. We truly hope this iconic marathon will be held as scheduled.

If the unlikely occurs and the MCM Marathon is cancelled, the Raleigh City of Oaks Marathon will accept all MCM runners. We faced a similar situation with the NYC Marathon being cancelled in 2012 and we were able to accommodate some but not all of those runners with only 1 day notice. A October 19th MCM decision provides adequate time for us to revise our plans to accommodate all MCM runners.

Keep Running,

Getting the handoff to start my 2nd of 3 legs during the Tuna 200. This leg was a 7.42 mi stretch - 56:55.

The most fun event I've ever done. Definitely going to look into more relays in the future.

made it back from the DC Marine Corp Marathon. Knocked out the marathon in 3:50. Felt awesome for pretty much the whole way. Even shaved 8 minutes off my best time, and 24 off my finish from last year.

side note- why the hell do we do this to ourselves? Gluttons for punishment...

Ran my first half marathon today ( City of Oaks )... was expecting to do it in 2:15, ended up just under 2:00 ... virtually flat compared to my usual Lake Johnson stomping grounds ... great weather, only lame thing was spectators that stopped cheering when I ran past, but perhaps that motivated me a little bit

I don't hear much about the pelvis, just the common ones like the feet or lower leg. I don't know your medical history but you must have a genetic predisposition or something, that make you susceptible.

Or simply, could just be the extra weight you're carrying and your running form. I've seen some awful running forms at the park (esp. from women), they tend to turn their hips a lot. Like I've suggested before, I hope you're incorporating some weight training a few times a week to help bone density and strength.

I have an inferior pubic ramus fracture and while it makes up a small percentage of stress fractures, they're seen mostly in female runners. The pubic ramus is the point of attachment for your gracilis. After asking here, I found an entire thread devoted to it on the Runners World boards. So now I know what to expect.

I have low PTH and with this being my second broken bone this year, I'm going to ask for a bone density scan. Strength training has been an important part of my routine for the last three months, but I'm going to have to alter my workouts. No running, no plyo etc for a few months. I talked with my trainer this morning and she's getting together with our sports med doctor friend to figure out an appropriate routine.

I'm totally bummed. I try to run a few miles several times a week and it's such a stress reducer. Poop.

Anyone else have issues with Achilles/Plantar Fasciitis after running. I'm getting it only in my right food. I've had PF on both sides before and resolved it with icing and rest, but lately running is causing heel pain on the right foot and back through the right ankle. I stretch calves regularly and foam roll. Anyone use compression socks for running? Do they help? I'm running about 4-5 miles 3x a week right now. Sometimes with a one or two miler on the other days (I lift as well).

Ran the Balls today in Greensboro. First "race" in 7 years. Ran the whole thing under 10min/mile, which I haven't been able to do in a long time. Yay, adrenaline and have having people to keep up with. I ran a damn 9:30 first mile, which, considering I was dodging people for the first third of a mile, was good. Second mile was 9:30, too, which was even more impressive. 3rd mile was not as good, as the adrenaline had worn off. Either way, good experience. Might make me go sign up for more events, just to have something to work towards.

Anti inflamatories. Freeze a water bottle and roll it on the bottom of your foot. Stretches that flex your toes towards the front of your calf. There's a splint that you can sleep in to maintain that position to relieve inflammation. That was all it took for me to get past pf, but I wasn't running at the time it gave me problems. Good luck with it. I know it's painful.

Full Disclosure: Before Tuesday this week I hadn't run a meter since the 5k in September.

I started completely over with C25K and I'm glad I did. I don't think I've lost all of my endurance in 3 months but I think easing back into will be best long term. It does feel good to be running again.

Did Ryan's Reindeer Run here in Fayetteville yesterday. First race ever.

24:45...pleased but I could've done better. I will say that the course was hellacious. I wish I could find a topo of the event. Multiple steep long hills.

Might be the first time I've posted in this thread, but here goes....

22 February: ACL surgery
24 November: First run in over 9 months (probably first run in over a year, counting the time before surgery). Therapy had me doing squats and lunges like a madman for the last 6 months, so my legs are actually in pretty good shape. Went out and hit 4.2 miles at 8:13 for my first run. I was pumped as hell that I was able to pound that out after such a long layoff. No pain in my knee or hamstring at all (hamstring kept giving me issues during rehab). It's winter, so running happens pretty sporadically, but here's the rest of my log:
28 Nov: 2.8 at 7:42
29 Nov: 4.6 at 7:55
15 Dec: 5.0 at 8:07
21 Dec: 3.1 at 10:00
Gonna see if I can hit 6 today. My lungs need a good bit of work, and my hip flexors are KILLING me, but it's nice to get back out there.

Good for you! How's your training been? Did you follow a training plan?

I'm just making my training plan up at this point. After taking off november, december, and most of january, I just jumped right into it and I pretty much threw the gradually increase your mileage by 10% rule out the window. I did 7 miles yesterday and felt fine, afterwards my body had the aches and pains of a 60 year old but nothing some advil couldnt fix.

Did my first 5k in like 6 years yesterday and placed 2nd in my age group!! (9th overall)

It was a capped race (350)...so it was definitely an easy field. But I haven't run close to a full 3 miles in a few years and was pretty proud of my time: 21:45. It's given me the motivation to start training again and sign up for a few more races. Would really like to break 20 minutes one of these days. Anyways...I posted about this race in the Charleston/Savannah thread. It was really an awesome experience and I know people like to do weekend trips to do races. I highly recommend this one if you like 5ks.

Quote :
"I experienced a "first" this weekend that I will now be recommending (and will cross post it in the running thread) for visitors:

I did the "Race and Roast" this Sunday at the Oakland Plantation. It's a 5k that starts at noon. It's basically a trail run that goes around the plantation and a couple ponds. Nice little trail and you finish the straightaway on one of those long dirt roads shaded by huge oak trees (like the driveway in Forrest Gump). Then for the rest of the afternoon you enjoy all you can east oysters, hot dogs, chili, and beer (all included in the price of admission). And it's all set with the plantation in the background and an open field overlooking a pond. I've been to a ton of oyster roasts in Charleston, and these were seriously the biggest and best oysters I've ever had. Just a great way to get in a nice run, in a beautiful setting, eat some great oysters, and get drunk with a good crowd and a good band.

I know people love to make a Charleston weekend out of the Bridge Run...but that weekend turns Charleston into a zoo. I think this race is a good way to come to Charleston for the weekend...explore the city and have fun on Friday and Saturday...then end it with a nice 5k and an oyster roast on Sunday (then go home on Monday obviously)."

^^ Yeah I used this plan I ripped from the internet. Supposed to run 5 days/week with long run on Sunday. I followed it pretty closely except for when the sidewalks were full of snow or iced over, and then I got on the exercise bike instead for 45 min.

I think next time I won't do 5 days/week though. My bro-in-law who is also doing the RnR half with me has been running for a while now and he just does 3 days a week (track repeats, tempo run, long run) with cross-training 2 days.

Just did 13 mi. yesterday. Felt like death afterward. Took me 2:25. lol.

Pretty cool run out there tonight. It wasn't quite a 5k. I'll bet they used Google maps or a car to measure the course and never thought about the fact that people would cut corners more than a car. 3.06 miles, so it was close.

Buddy roped me into the All-American Marathon in Fayettevillle on May 4. Little behind on my training schedule as my longest so far is 14 miles. Should be doing a 16 miler next week to ramp it up a bit. This will be my first marathon where I had a goal other than just finishing.

Doing an 8k tomorrow. I'm not entirely ready, but I know I can do the distance, because I ran more than that last week. I'm a little worried about my legs, because I've developed shin splints over the last month, and they are just about gone, but still. I've taken the last two weeks pretty easy and have been icing a bunch. Anyway, it'll be fun, and I'll know at about the halfway mark if I should call it quits.

I'm doing the RnR full marathon. It'll be my first full. Fatigue and injuries and inconsistent schedules have killed me the last couple months. I don't think I'll have much of a problem finishing, but I think I'll have to lay my time goals to rest.
