^heh heh..i was referring more to the "visions" that people have seen, Jack's dad, Walt, Ecko's brother etc. I can't remember an instance where someone else could see the people, though Sawyer also saw Kate's horse. Regardless, he has intereacted with other character so my thought is pretty much dead anyway

so how is jacob going to save locke with a bullet in his chest?or is locke just going to heal himself?[Edited on May 10, 2007 at 4:44 PM. Reason : f]
5/10/2007 4:44:00 PM
OK...so in those frames, we can see a man sitting in a chair...presumably Jacob. How was he able to stay "invisible" the rest of the scene? Is it the smoke monster, or what?
5/10/2007 4:50:30 PM
anybody notice that the VW bus had the same music playing right before ben gassed his dad as when Hurley and company get the bus running again later?also, If Russo is the crazy haired lady that lives by herself in the jungle then I'd have to second the suggestion she was ben's girlfriend. If I'm not mistaken it was her daughter that gave Locke a gun and said "happy birthday dad" in the last episode.feel free to correct.[Edited on May 10, 2007 at 5:08 PM. Reason : .]

^ The car probably wasn't turned on after he killed his dad. Ben told Richard to leave his father there, so my guess is the car was playing a tape.
5/10/2007 5:10:09 PM
but where in the hell would the fench dialect come from? She spoke perfect Engrish as a child.I think the little girl != Russo, she is the parachuter.Wouldnt that just be a swift kick in the ass?
5/10/2007 5:13:31 PM
^^^I don't think so, b/c she said she came in on a science expedition or something like that. She said "The Others" TOOK her baby, which I assume means Ben adopted Alex as his own.
5/10/2007 5:27:49 PM
Also...it may not be coincidence that Richard doesn't look like he aged..Remember he is the guy who recruited Juliette to the island and he represented "Mittelos" (Lost time). Maybe they have found a way to slow down aging or something
5/10/2007 5:46:35 PM
Am I the only one who thought that Horace (the guy who recruited Ben's Dad) didn't age at all? When Ben was looking at him dead on the bench after "the purge," he didn't seem to have aged at all, especially compared to Ben's dad who was balding and wrinkley.
5/10/2007 6:11:49 PM
I don't think anybody who's actually watched the show before this episode would think Ben's childhood sweetheart is Rousseau.
5/10/2007 7:02:56 PM
It all boils down to the magnetic properties of the island. The magnetic properties create a polarization of the body that inhibits aging. It all makes sense now.
5/10/2007 7:12:31 PM
^all of the dharma people aged, like ben and his father
5/10/2007 7:51:51 PM
^big number, someone mentioned that maybe the electric fence thing has something to do with why Richard and the others don't age. I doubt it since when young Ben met Richard the first time, they lived outside of the fence, and now they live inside of it. Also, he traveled to the states to get Juliette, and I bet if he went outside his protective thingy he would decay because he's a million years old.

i don't think that is Locke. I don't even know if we were supposed to see someone sitting in that chair. Most of the people watching the show (the casual/common viewer) didn't see it. I didn't even see it until I was reading this thread and went back and looked closely.[Edited on May 10, 2007 at 8:47 PM. Reason : yep ]

Plenty of people noticed it..Besides, Lindelof/Abrams/Cuse thrive on the "Lost experience". They throw in stuff like this, or a couple weeks ago with the parachuter speaking in a different language to Mikhail, and so much other stuff because they know people are talking about it online. They want people to be talking and hypothesizing about stuff.
5/10/2007 9:02:12 PM
I thought Jacob looked more like Jacks father with a beard and long hair.
5/10/2007 9:02:48 PM
OK then. well I've talked to 5 different people today who did not see the man in the chair. They said everything happened so fast, they didn't catch it.If i didn't read stuff on the internet about it, i wouldnt' have known either.
5/10/2007 9:49:53 PM
I saw something the first time, but I had to rewind it and pause my DVR to make sure.
5/10/2007 10:15:20 PM
i saw him when it happend. my gf did not though.
5/10/2007 10:22:55 PM
5/10/2007 10:37:01 PM
maybe they gave richard longer hair to look youngerand maybe the kept the same actor to show that he was older than benso maybe he was like somewhere between 17 - 23 when ben was 10wouldn't be too far off
5/10/2007 10:45:50 PM
To me jacon looked like the guy who hired Ben's Dad, Horace? Similar hair... I dunno... perhaps it is locke, but that was my first thought when I saw the picture.
5/10/2007 11:57:51 PM
I dont know, Horace was killed during the gassing. He was the one who was dead on the bench and Ben walked over and closed his eyes.
5/10/2007 11:59:10 PM
yeah true, but doesn't mean it wasn't though... things don't seem to stay dead on that island!
5/11/2007 12:01:17 AM
5/11/2007 12:23:36 AM
I'm pretty sure Richard's long hair signified that the "Natives" were more like the castaways were during the first season - little to no modern convenience. At the time, any Dharma Initiative stations would have been occupied by the Dharma Initiative, so it's not like Richard could be taking baths or cut his hair. Then when they moved into the Dharma camps, they had their own houses.
5/11/2007 6:45:32 AM
5/11/2007 8:17:02 AM
Jacob is just the manifestation of the island.... a collective energy from all the ghost of the people who have died on the island. the whole thing that i really want to find out is why did the natives take over the studies of the dharma initiative peopleand are they really natives of the island? Or just manifestations of the island in human form.

yeah and they also don't age at all, so I wouldnt put anything past those fuckers.LOL
5/11/2007 10:56:47 AM
I think the pirate ship has something more to do with the story. I think that if you are born on the island you age much slower, and if you come to the island you age on a regular rate. Remeber the urgency that Richard had when recruiting Juliette. Maybe too much time off the island takes away the magic. Wouldn't it be crazy if the 'hostiles' were the original folks that came to the island on the pirate ship. Of course there are loopholes, but it's a take that some other lost fans are thinking.
5/11/2007 10:58:10 AM
well and I think you'd have to be conceived on the island as well. Claire's kid would still be a tiny baby if it was just whomever was born on the island.I, for one, would volunteer to make some long-living children with her.
5/11/2007 11:01:57 AM
Wonder what the link is that makes all the women on the island die after giving birth (except Claire) and Ben's mom dieing after giving birth to Ben.
5/11/2007 11:03:27 AM
Well he appears to have the same abilities as Locke and Walt to make up his own rules for the island, so perhaps this quality makes him think everyone should suffer the same way he did.
5/11/2007 11:28:21 AM
The Island seems to cause people to relive their central problem over and over again (maybe its just symbolic or maybe it's this whole alternate dimensions, time folding on itself thing). Locke continues to be misled and made a fool of, Hurley was forced to deal with the numbers and their "curse" over and over again in season 2, Jack's desire to fix things and his reluctance to be a leader, etc.So Ben, after a lifetime of being told it's his fault that his mother died and made to feel like a failure for this reason is doomed to watch woman after woman die in childbirth, trying to fix it. He seems to feel guilty about this (although irrationally so).

^^ thats actually pretty cool assesment of things. however wednesday's episode (which i just watched thanks to DVR) was a let down. I liked how it gave us a "Ben" issue, but other than that, more stupid questions than answers. Jacob? Seriously, a guy with superpowers or whatever? I'm amusing its all been discussed in here already, but its not worth even caring until the creators figure out their plot line.the episode did make me loathe the Others more now, and convinced myself that the Lost should just wipe Ben & his circle out.
5/11/2007 12:06:23 PM
no way, that was the best episode since season 1.
5/11/2007 12:17:19 PM
i'm not gonna argue, BUT YOUR WRONG i saw it after everyone at work hyped it up for me, so maybe my opinion is a bit outta whack. but i still think it could have been better and helped progress the solutions along.alas they do have 3 more seasons, so why solve anything now...goddamnit.[Edited on May 11, 2007 at 12:55 PM. ^you sir, are a moron. This was one of the best epi's of this season and has ignited all kinds of theories and questions. How many other 1 hour shows leave you asking questions and begging for answers 3-4 days after it airs? The answer is none. This show is unlike other shows. Once you get past that point, you can allow yourself to enjoy the show.Think how much of a quick fix having "all of the answers" would be. We'd be like for an hour or two and piece everything together, and then lose interest because nothing is there to hold our attention. That episode and this show is fucking awesome. Allow yourself to "not know", and you will feel the same way too./rant.

i think the original inhabitants of the island were the original inhabitants of earth... then they went all over earth to spread their seed and begin new civilizations. much later in time people that no longer knew of the island found it and discovered how crazy shit was and wanted to hang out and study. i'm basing this on nothing what-so-ever, but it seems much of the show is based on the same.
