This is an armed subject, but what are you thoughts on this shooting?

Cop defends himself against mentally disturbed guy wielding a knife. No one is going to argue against that one.

[Edited on July 7, 2016 at 2:51 PM. Reason : Gee I wonder why that video produced no outrage?]

"A 28-year-old nursing student who declined to be named said she was sitting in the parking lot of a nearby apartment building and saw the scene unfold. It was around 9 p.m., she said, when the car was pulled over.

“I just heard the officer say, ‘Put your hands up,’ and before he finished saying that there were four shots,” the woman said."

There is an independent witness corroborating the girlfriends story.

^^While I think the shooting was good, it should have never happened. Guy pulls knife after officer frisks him...but why did the officer frisk him? He had no justification for it. A shooting that could have possibly been avoided. It's all about context.

This. I'd even go so far as to commend the officers for giving that guy every chance. Could it have been a non-lethal take down? Maybe, but given the evidence we have from the body camera that man was unhinged.

^Didn't I read in the comments that the man was a suspect in some stabbings a few states over? Couldn't there have been an alert out for someone with his description? Failing that...even their initial interaction with the suspect seemed off. I can't blame him for frisking the guy, especially if he was 'illegally' walking along the side of a highway.

^^exactly. Cops are allowed to frisk you for safety reason if they catch you doing something illegal, which walking down the interstate is (in many states anyway). That's especially true if he was about to detain the guy.

In no way does the context of that shooting relate to the two most recent shootings being discussed ITT

Good cops should be distancing themselves from that thug in Minnesota. Why won't they denounce these extremists?

It's interesting (not really) Clinton, Sanders, and Obama have commented on the latest shooting but nothing so far from Trump.

"Here is one the mainstream media won't pick up"
- provides link to one of the largest newspapers in the country
- doesn't google to see if any national media picked up the story (they have)

A frisk isn't automatic. Just because you commit a crime, there is no right to frisk. You must establish reasonable suspicion that person is armed and dangerous.

What I was dying to illustrate is sometimes a shooting that might appear clear cut isn't and one that looks heinous might not be.

The world needs more people like you in it! Sadly, even when the "facts" come out they will only be whatever story the media had put together for all of the simple minded citizens of this country to believe. No one will ever know what really happened in that moment except for the cop and the victim. It is easy to judge, and say what if, or what you would have done differently.... until it is you in the situation. The fact is, is that there were probably a thousand other fatal shootings around the country that day, but because the government and media are carrying out their agenda to turn us against each other, this is the one we heard about. The fact is that ALL lives matter, and we as a country need to wake up and fight for our rights, before we have no more.

I just want to take a moment and give a quick shout out to all of our law enforcement officers. Although, there are a few bad apples, as to be expected in all walks of life, for the most part I am confident that you guys take protecting and serving the citizens of your jurisdiction seriously and responsibly. It saddens my heart to see what the media and our government is turning this country into. The way people are bashing the men and women who put their lives on the line on a daily basis sickens me. These folks have families, wives, husbands, and children at home.... and sometimes they don't make it back to see them. All of you who want to point fingers and judge certain situations are foolish. How can you possibly say how you would react in a situation you have no experience being in, and probably never will. Especially when you feel your life is in danger. Now is not the time to point fingers and place blame. Now is the time to pray, turn to God, and come together as a people in His name.

Wait. Is Restricted jtdenny??

there were 42 cops shot nationwide last year, and this number has been steadily dropping for decades.

Meanwhile, the number of people killed by police is around 500 in recent years, a number which had been increasing for decades, despite the crime rate being at record low levels. So there's undoubtedly a problem in America with police increasingly using excessive force, that disproportionately affects poor black neighborhoods (but still affects large numbers of white people).

You would have to bury your head in the stand to ignore calls for policing reform and chant blue lives matter, when the best evidence we have shows no growing threat to police. Cops have absolutely no reason to be as skittish and trigger happy as they have been.

Yup, those transit authority cops didn't deserve to die.

The only positive outcome from this would be a restructuring of how police forces operate, sadly this incident will likely make them even more insular and continue to feed the "us vs. them" and "a cops job is to make it home alive to his family" mentality that is at the root of our policing problems.
