So is this gym going to be in Raleigh? I want to go.
5/6/2012 1:26:20 AM
When we gona start fighting crime?
5/6/2012 3:05:31 AM
Yep, it's very accessible. Probably 15-20min from anywhere in the Raleigh metro area. Right off 440, inside the belt line.Once it's presentable I will be promoting the hell out of it... It will be my livelihood. Sink or swim!Elite crime fighting certificate is issued when you can press your body weight overhead.[Edited on May 6, 2012 at 8:56 AM. Reason : ;]
5/6/2012 8:54:52 AM
maxing out on overhead presses is something I've never done. Then again, I hadn't overhead pressed in years until recently, when I added it back into my DC routine.
5/6/2012 10:03:11 AM
I think the standing overhead barbell press is a very good indicator of strength. If you can press your body weight you are stronger than most people, both relatively and absolutely.
5/6/2012 11:49:08 AM
I may have to try it then. I can seated press 100lb dumbbells overhead for about 10+ reps, so I should probably be able to press a barbell with my bodyweight of 250. I just hate holding onto a barbell in the rested position in front of my chest, and it's probably not a good idea to be pressing like that behind the neck.
5/6/2012 1:00:55 PM
i know ive done it in the past but i havent oh anything in over a year
5/6/2012 2:18:34 PM
I really don't do free weights anymore. I never got the instruction about how to do it properly and I know how the machines work. At one point I started putting my shoulder in pain so I stopped.

I am down 8 lbs since 23 April. I have cut alcohol out of my diet just to take a break from all the heavy drinking I was doing in Florida. It's been over three weeks since I've had a drop. I have been logging my calories and cooking 95% of all of my meals since mid-April. I have also started following Insanity again, but I have been alternating some days with cross-fit. I have been--this of course is according to the exercise calculator on my calorie logging site--burning about 300 calories per day working out. I have been working out six days a week. My definition has improved and, as I've said, I lost 8 lbs. I'm down to 175 right now. I have lost some inches, but it's not really noticeable yet. I just feel 'harder' under my stomach fat. I'm hoping to try and maintain this level of activity during flight school so I don't get fat like I did Pensacola. My caloric intake average since I've started logging has been ~2300 cal/day and my 'exercise calories' have averaged ~300. I'll post pictures when I see my girlfriend again. If anyone is curious about how I look right now, you can check out the before pictures of when I did the beach body thread two years ago. I believe I am around that level now. Hoping to get back to the results pictures status and beyond this summer.

I'm trying to avoid beer and sodas entirely, and I feel like I've done pretty good with it. It definitely makes a huuuuuge difference. You can eat so much other stuff if you cut those out But I'm still kind of overeating whenever I spend long hours in the office I think I have a little belly bulge from this and unfortunately, I don't foresee activity level increasing or my motivation high enough to eat less.I wish that mint.com or Harris Teeter could track my calories. That would be awesome.
5/6/2012 7:47:09 PM
Perhaps try the shot gun approach...Don't try to count calories, just eliminate as many non-essential calories that you can tolerate.Couple that with tracking your weight and strength training on a frequent basis, you can lose fat effectively.
5/6/2012 8:42:24 PM
can coffee make you fat?
5/7/2012 10:18:29 AM
Only if you put a lot of cream and sugar in it. I drink it with splenda and no cream. I've started to prefer green tea, though.
5/7/2012 10:23:53 AM
The strangest thing about Facebook timeline:Watching a friend get fat as you scroll up.So maybe some of you will get fat as your friends scroll down, no? That would certainly be preferable.
5/7/2012 11:33:58 AM
Weighed in today at 174.1 so this should be the week I breach the 170 threshold which would equal the lowest I've been in 3 years. 169 would be about a 7 year low I think. Busted my ass today with a 9 mile interval training of running/walking. Tried a new routine that is pretty destructive. Run 60 secs, walk 120, run 50 seconds, walk 100, run 40 seconds, walk 80, run 30, walk 60, run 20, walk 40, run 10, walk 20. Then run 10, walk 20 again, 20 then 40, 30 then 60... all the way back to 60/120.You'll cover around 2 miles in 21 minutes if you're walking at a solid pace and are pushing yourself as hard as you can go on the runs. Also did 2.5 miles/30 minutes at a run 60, walk 120 split. This is a pretty good one for the end of your workout when you need something easier for recovery. Virtually no carbs all week until Saturday. Intake is about 10-15 carbs a day. Expecting a huge woosh.
5/7/2012 8:48:50 PM
Sounds like a huge waste of time compared to lifting weights and doing light sprint work on the side. But whatever works for you.
5/7/2012 9:04:47 PM
Lifting weights tomorrow. Obviously I'd prefer to do weight lifting first for glycogen depletion, but I wasn't recovered enough from last workout to lift today.
5/7/2012 9:27:02 PM
172 today, 6 pack en route. I was ridiculously weak lifting weights this morning so the intervals must have worked okay for depletion. Can't imagine I don't shed another 2 lbs today after lifting.
5/8/2012 2:00:27 PM
You'll hit a wall at around 10-13% BF depending on how much you've lost already. That's when things get tough!
5/8/2012 2:07:49 PM
I've been below there before but yeah it took a long time and i was pretty much playing sports everyday back then.I'm probably about 15-17% or so now based on pictures. Abs outline visible but not much definition between them.Going to keep chugging.
5/8/2012 2:27:23 PM
Speaking of pictures...
5/8/2012 2:28:07 PM
Well I'm out for awhile - was warming up about 4 weeks ago and my back felt weak but finished my workout anyways. Next couple of days it started hurting on the lower right hand side but I kept at it before I was warming up again and almost collapsed in pain. Took about 3 weeks off and started up again yesterday and made it to the last rep of a work set and it started searing again. Going to the doctor tomorrow.
5/8/2012 2:59:00 PM
swimming today!
5/8/2012 5:02:04 PM
3 weeks way too soon! Herniated discs takes about 2 to 3 months.
5/8/2012 8:27:32 PM
My gym is coming along! Should be opening next week I am thinking about giving TWWers a free week trial. Any one interested?[Edited on May 10, 2012 at 2:02 PM. Reason : words]

if i lived in raleigh i def would try it out
5/10/2012 3:12:42 PM
Where is it?
5/10/2012 3:37:28 PM
2422 Atlantic Avenue. 2min inside the belt line off the capital exit.
5/10/2012 3:47:16 PM
well at least it's in the inner beltline
5/10/2012 4:13:39 PM
Down to about 199.7 from 218 in January. Still progressing on 5/3/1, seeing gradual aesthetic improvements in the mirror. but the lower back/ab fat doesn't wanna go. Still got a ways to go...185-190 at least.Anyone ever feel like a fitness/bodybuilding lifestyle negatively affects your social life? I've basically cut out drinking except for maybe once a week, if that. I rarely eat out with friends anymore. Some combination of moving out of a "bro house" and into my own place, having a girlfriend, being focused on lifting/cutting, and having friends that really aren't into an active/fitness lifestyle has made me feel kind of detached.
5/11/2012 5:12:53 PM
I suggest you make new friends, perhaps find some triathletes to hang out with.
5/11/2012 5:13:45 PM
^ yupLifestyle changes like that usually bring in new friends. Definitely not a bad thing. The good news is that all the triathletes & super active people I know also love to get their drink on, party & eat amazing food. They also go kayaking & hiking to keep it all in check. Sounds good to me![Edited on May 11, 2012 at 5:21 PM. Reason : Fhrhgjf]
5/11/2012 5:20:30 PM
I'd like to hang around the crowd with massive titties
5/11/2012 7:39:05 PM
^^Indeed. During the week I eat like a fitness model, and work out M-F. Over the weekend, I usually go mountain biking, or kayaking. Kinda by default I surrounded myself with like minded people, and we still get shit hammered drunk on Saturday nights. Everything in moderation, including moderation.
5/12/2012 1:54:09 AM
Matt's place should make some kind of jingle about how the fact that it's in the inner beltline reflects the fact that your beltline will shrink.
5/12/2012 7:49:43 AM
Thought this thread might be a good place to ask since it gets quite a bit of traffic:I've been lifting on the reg for the past year, minus a couple months after christmas, and have recently started p90x to try something different, and to bring a little more structure to my workouts. I'm looking into purchasing a recovery drink from the vitamin shoppe or somewhere similar. Anyone have any recommendations? I know Beachbody has some for sale, but theirs looks a little overpriced, and I'm thinking I could find something similar for much less. Thanks!
5/13/2012 9:46:27 PM
I buy the 10lb bags of whey protein from Optimum Nutrition. Not going to beat the price (under $100) or stats on them. But I assume you're looking for carbs too. For that I like Kraft Mac & Cheese or Pasta.[Edited on May 14, 2012 at 12:25 AM. Reason : a]

Haha, wow. Didn't know face infiltrated the Lounge as well.
5/14/2012 9:03:08 AM
Has anyone ever taken ZMA? My boyfriend recommended it (per advice from his former personal trainer friend) because I've been having not the most restful sleep lately, and I've felt like my recovery has been struggling. It's zinc, magnesium and B6, supposed to help you get a deeper sleep and improve recovery. I haven't been taking it long enough to judge whether it does anything, but am curious if anyone else has experience.
5/14/2012 10:30:27 AM
Only works if you are deficient in those nutrients.Other sleep supps that work are melatonin and 5-htp.
5/14/2012 11:05:15 AM
5/14/2012 11:54:38 AM
^^^ It helps me sleep. Of course I'm using th GNC version that has valerian root, so that's probably a big part of it.

5/14/2012 1:47:16 PM
Optimum also combines 5g BCAA in their whey. Virtually no sugar in the mix either. And it tastes good.
5/14/2012 2:39:36 PM
trueprotein.com makes some good products if you're really wanting to get serious about your protein supplements. I just get my ON autoshipped from Amazon on subscription because I'm lazy.
5/14/2012 10:55:50 PM
I'm starting with a personal trainer next week. I'm down 31 pounds from my highest and have a good 70 pounds to go, but I'd be happy with just another 30 more. The first 30 came off with lifestyle changes - diet and severe reduction of my alcohol intake. I'm hoping that exercise and phentermine (doctor prescribed it) will help me take off the rest. I'm caught between excitement and dread of the trainer.
5/18/2012 1:00:27 PM
wtg if you're in the area, you should come try one of my classes
