^except their fans could give a flying fuck if they cheated.A University admitted to having fake classes that kept athletes eligible, told the NCAA it wasnt their problem to worry about and then goes onto win another National Championship while dragging out the investigation. The national media even knows it. And of course dont mention it on FB because the UNC fans who have never stepped foot on a college campus in their life will tell you that type of stuff happens everywhere. Fuck college athletics. Now UNC will get a couple of scholarships reduced, a post season ban and Roy retires a Champion.[Edited on April 4, 2017 at 12:27 AM. Reason : .]

^im all for it at this point. It's clear that's the only way to level the playing field. Just don't expect that we would get decimated if we ever get caught doing a 10th of what has gone on at UNC
4/4/2017 1:50:17 AM
I actually value my degree and prefer to not see it tarnished so we can win something in FB or BB. If I'm dealing with Hole fans that didn't attend UNC, I just continually put that back in their face. They are essentially Dallas Cowboy fans. Anyone can just pick a team to root for. If they actually went to UNC, I simply ask if winning a BB title is worth diminishing their academics. Most UNC alums seem to actually realize that their success is a product of their cheating, but justify it by saying everyone does it, which is akin to an alcholic justifying his addiction because other people drink too.[Edited on April 4, 2017 at 5:59 AM. I feel like putting kids in fake classes is morally about as low as you can get, aside from pulling a Baylor and straight up covering up crimes. Fake classes steal the one benefit the athletes are supposed to get from the billion dollar business. So, when we win 5 chips and get exposed for ncaa violations, I hope it's that we gave every player $50k in cold, hard cash.

I can see why we would be reluctant to name anything after JimmyV. We all know it's bullshit, but the N&O did such a thorough job of trashing him, that he is perceived outside of NC State circles as having been dirty while he was here, even though we all know that not to be true. Short of the NCAA coming out and publicly exonerating him, that's always going to be the perception of his time here, so it's a bad look for us to name anything after him. If we had a hospital or medical program, we could probably get away with naming a cancer center or program after him, but that's about it.It's total bullshit that Dean Smith was 10 times dirtier than JimmyV and they can celebrate him all they want, while we have to publically hide from mentioning JimmyV.[Edited on April 25, 2017 at 2:42 PM. 12/21/2017 3:02:52 PM
Who cares. We still haven't won shit in basketball or football.
12/21/2017 3:55:07 PM
it's a hell of a lot better than being shit in every non-rev sport and still not winning anything in basketball and football which is what we've been for the last ~30 years. so i'll take it. it's an improvement. she's obviously doing a good job.
12/21/2017 3:56:41 PM
^^ Correct. She's improved every sport except the two that people care about the most. Whatever.
12/21/2017 8:22:09 PM
No she's definitely improved both. They just haven't won championships.
12/21/2017 8:58:24 PM
this is incredibly straightforward. athletics, across the board, are unquestionably in a better position than when she took over. she's doing a good job.
12/22/2017 6:53:00 AM
Is she taking away revenue and focus from revenue sports to focus on non-rev sports?
12/22/2017 9:02:50 AM
i seriously doubt that. especially considering we just extended our football coach and increased his salary along with his staff's. i don't really take much (any) pride in our volleyball team being good. so i get where you're coming from. basketball and football are 99% of what matters. but...if you're judging Yow on the job she's done then you can't really deny that she's improved our athletics. hell, football is coming off its best conference record in 20+ years and has a chance to finish in the top 25. obviously we wanna aim higher than that, but that's pretty daggone good for state football imo.[Edited on December 22, 2017 at 9:49 AM. I agree Yow has improved things a lot. I just wonder at times if it takes away from the things we care about.
12/22/2017 10:45:30 AM
Yeah that extra $5,000 for volleyball really fucked the men's basketball budget.
12/22/2017 12:00:40 PM
How could hiring competent coaches and supporting non-rev sports affect b-ball and football in anything but positive ways?
12/22/2017 12:01:00 PM
i don't know how that could be quantified, really. but just at surface level...we're constructing a "basketball dorm", we finished the indoor practice facility. those are both very good things for the revenue sports. so it's not like we've ceased any kind of basketball or football upgrades. but at the same time, the indoor practice facility was long overdue....so in some respects we're definitely playing catch up compared to some schools in terms of facilities. i'm obviously going back before DY, but a lotta the upgrades done to C-F when Amato was here were also long overdue. we touted those facilities for several years and now those same facilities that were so impressive 15 years ago are no longer special because it's essentially an arms race when it comes to improving facilities and things like that. i get your point, although i have no idea how to answer this or if it's even a feasible question to ask based on where the money came from and all that - had we not done any Reynolds renovations, for example, and put all that money into football instead, where would we be? my opinion, without knowing the accounting side of all of this, is that we're also playing catch up in a lotta non-rev sports, too. so by putting more money into those sports (renovating Reynolds, soccer field, etc) and hiring better coaches, we're reaping those benefits. also, i'd argue that a dollar goes further in non-revenue sports than basketball or football. a big upgrade in funding for, soccer let's say, can probably have a quicker and better impact than that same amount put to football. it's probably impossible to answer your question, but i think a lot of the spending that's gone to upgrading facilities in the non-rev sports was long overdue and very necessary. previously we were mediocre in MBB and football and mediocre to bad in a lotta non-rev sports. now we're mediocre in football and MBB still (IMO, trending up in football with MBB being in a state of transition so hard to definitively say), but seemingly doing much better in non-revenue sports. i don't think you can really argue that MBB and football results have gotten worse due to the improvement in non-revenue sports.

What sports are left for the year that are counted? We should do really well in Men's Swimming and Baseball is looking good. Do we get decent points for just making the tournament? Obviously we get shut out for not having any lacrosse teams. What other sports to we have 0-fers in?
3/22/2018 10:14:03 AM
it also doesn't include points for MBB and WBB yet, but to answer your question ^, i'm not sure what else will ultimately be included. read on twitter where we should be guaranteed top 10 at least.
