I kept hoping the daughter would kill herself in the middle of the night and awake as a zombie inside the house while everyone is sleeping.

As far as I know, the origin of the zombies is never explained or figured out in the comics. But it doesn't take just blood to become infected. Although we know a bite definitely works too, it seems like a virus of sorts, possibly airborne, that is embedded in everyone.

I think Rick was going to leave Shane. But when he got to the car and saw the two dead cops/guards it reminded him of Shane and himself and thats when he decided to go back for him. My theory, anyways.

And while I enjoyed the debate about suicide, I couldn't care less about the girl who was contemplating it. She was a background character at best.

I got around to watching the latest episode last night and I agree that it was by far the best episode of the season.

I haven't read the comics, but the show is clearly foreshadowing some development regarding zombification by means we haven't seen yet. I've always suspected something along those lines, ever since they made a big deal out of burial vs. burning and then brought it up again after the barn incident.

The Lori/Andrea argument in the kitchen was super annoying to me. I couldn't care less about them arguing about who is more bitchy and useless.

I liked the suicide not because of what she does but because of the tone its trying to set. That there is no future and it is easier to just give up. It shows the perspective and the conversation that "you do realise that he entire world is full of zombies and they will never go away."

This might be obvious but the significance to the mindset of the characters isnt really well established. Its hard to put into context how bleak their future is when they are on this nice little farm isolated from everything.

I mean I guess. It's just a future where now humans have a predator. They have to live simply and be on guard for predators like man used to do ages ago. There is a future, its just a future without iPads and The Office.

well if they do develop the storyline that every person who dies, no matter if they die from contact with a zombie or not, comes back as a zombie it would only perpetuate the hopeless feeling everyone is trying to fight.

my money is on Lori having a miscarriage and the zombie baby reanimates in an Alien-esque birth

This show can be really frustrating. Instead of a wrench going through a window maybe they could have destroyed a lock on a door that was holding back zombies or just have the zombies swarm out of the woods. Anything would have made more sense.

The scene with 3 zombies crawling on Rick was awesome and hilarious. The argument between Lori and Andrea actually sounded like an argument 2 dumb bitches would have. Pretty realistic if you ask me but they are super annoying characters.

I thought it was hilarious that the house bitches were being catty about the girl who gets to go outside...who ultimately has to sit on the roof of an RV all day with a scoped rifle (not shotgun like Loritard said)

As far as the entire zombie genre goes... I'm sorry, but I can't imagine it getting so bad that the government/military can't function and completely wipeout every zombie on the planet. Even if new ones that are not disposed of properly pop up. Like these mindless slow zombies can cause an entire city's infrastructure to completely collapse? Man can evolve pretty quickly. I would think an entire industry would manifest itself and pop up or society would change to live with the pests that are zombies. Ammunition factories, fortified cities, sustainable crops, water, food, etc.

^I think the main thing in most zombie cases is that whatever causes the outbreak is highly contagious. As we saw in the last episode that isn't the case.

^^ i've also never understood the "slow zombie" scenario. even after reading books like World War Z, I still can't imagine that people won't learn to deal with these pests fairly easily

Yeah, I always wondered the same thing, but chalked it up to the fact that it's highly contagious, the onset is so quick, and the resulting confusion. They hinted a little on that in this last episode; Shane saying that it started as just a couple strange stories on the news and then it was way out of control seemingly over night.

This is supposed to be a world where they've never heard the word "zombie," so not knowing what to do would cause the biggest problem. I imagine panic and immediate military fortification, but harboring civilians and those who are injured and whatnot. Since they don't know how it spreads or what to look for (bites, scratches, etc.), a few people inside the fortification become zombies and wreak havoc from the inside out. That being said, you'd think a significant number of survivors could adapt quickly enough and wipe out thousands upon thousands of slow moving zombies.

I also would think you'd see a lot more mad max style vehicles that could just plow through a herd of zombies when necessary and get to [temporary] safety with ease.

^ was pretty much what i was going to say.

i think people have trouble detaching the humanity from zombies. "i can't kill my wife!"

also, i think it's human nature to hide a bite, or some other indication of being infected, so its possible you can take your group by surprise when you do turn. one infected person could take an entire safe zone down.

but i dunno, maybe the government has a plan

He was right in that scene, you don't kill the living (unless they're trying to kill you).

The world has changed, but the goal is repopulating humanity, not accelerating its demise.

he was right, in your opinion, but not necessarily in mine. i would have shot the guy in the head & left him on the fence anyway. he would have never made it back to the farm.

my goal would be to keep my group & family safe. it hasn't been that long yet (in their timeline); i wouldn't quite be worried about repopulation yet.

This weekend was a marathon Season 2 catchup session for me. I watched S1 last week and really liked it. Season 2 has been really slow and less interesting. It seems to have come back strong after the mid-season break, thankfully. I was really tired of them searching for Sophia and was glad that line finally ended.

I kinda liked Dale. Oh well...

This must be why you were complaining about Hershel making a poor decision by letting potentially dangerous strangers join him on his farm. *scans thread* Oh wait!

It isn't obvious to me that torturing and killing Randall will make the group more safe. It is possible that he will be a danger, but that could be said of ANY stranger they come across. So I don't see why it would clearly be a worse call to wait before killing him.

This line of reasoning always annoys me. It actually contains no moral content except to excuse any and all selfish things you might do out of fear in the zombie apocalypse.

But the selfish thing isn't always the smartest thing--the thing that will maximize your odds of survival. IMO, Rick has consistently done the *smart* thing at every step of the way. He just doesn't get the credit for it.

^^^Dale was a so-so Juror #8, but a little more pathetic. I really liked him as a character, because although a little senile, he was the voice of reason/old age/experience, etc.

Carl is a little shit. He killed Dale and I hope he tells someone so he can quit acting like a badass.

^Seriously, so the guys from the other group raping the two teenagers must be in the right since we're in an entirely different world.

Exactly!! I am looking forward to the part of the show where the characters talk exactly about this. The "different world" and relativistic bs kinda falls apart when it can be used to excuse teen rape.

did i do this? i don't remember saying that but jesus if you memorized everything said in this thread, good for you. i didn't see that statement in the last several pages & that's as far as i'm searching. i think it was a poor decision on hershel's part to keep the walkers in the barn. if i said that he shouldn't have let the them stay, i still don't know that it was a good idea. they could provide extra security & resources in numbers, but so far they've done nothing but cause problems.

and i never said that torturing him would make anything better. i said they should never have brought him home in the first place.

no, THIS is the line of reasoning that's annoying. getting rid of randall or never bringing him home in the first place would be done to protect the group & the farm. priorities CHANGE, not disappear. raping someone does nothing to protect anybody.

This show is awful, yet compelling. But mostly, it's awful. Carl is a joke of a plot device. Hurr durr go to the house and stay there young man herp uh oh here he is running loose again what a surprise! Anyone seen Carl? Oh he's missing? Ok cool; he's probably just off doing what boys do in this crazy, mixed-up post apocalyptic world.

Also, the zombie that killed Dale was stuck in like 6" of mud. Carl motivates him to struggle out of the mud. Later, he rips open Dale's rib cage with his bare hands after eviscerating a 1000 lb animal by suddenly ninja-ing behind Dale in an open field.

i noticed some foreshadowing with Randall's admission that the Thirty are chock full of weapons and ammo and when Andrea asked for the gun bag and said "please tell me this isn't all the ammo we have?"

The only thing that saddens me about Dale's death is that although he whined a lot, he was at least an intelligent and logical guy. I wish Lori and Carl would die, they are both stupid and act stupid. Carl is such a stupid idiot. In a world were there are monsters running around in the woods, where most of his friends and family have been ripped apart and eaten alive, where the only other person his age was killed for being one, and where his parents constantly tell him to stay aside and not go anywhere by himself, he continues to be a complete dumbass.

And for the zombie stuck in the mud, given how strong they apparently are I would have thought that it would rip it's own legs out of their sockets to get to Carl when he was standing right there.

yes. all of that plus he's running around in the woods where he was shot by a normal live human too. alllllll of that should make him think a little harder about taking off like that. also, rick/lori/shane/somebody should have been concerned with where he was while he was at the creek.

I'm not saying you did, I'm saying you SHOULD have said that Hershel was making a bad move letting them stay. Because all the arguments against Randall could be used against Rick's group with little modification (including the fact that members of Rick's group assaulted members of Hershel's group--like for example Otis). Yet, I also can't find you saying that anywhere.

Quote :

So who EXACTLY do you have an obligation to protect or help others in this "new" world they're supposedly living in? You certainly have no obligations to strangers like Randall. Yet you voiced no complaint when Hershel took it upon himself to help Carl. Maybe your only obligations extend to children????? Lay it out for me.

Because as I see it, once you start taking it upon yourself to decide who lives and who dies, it is hard to stop at rape and say "no, that's just wrong".
