Tucker Carlson keeps doing "I don't like bernie but..." segments and it really makes me happy.
1/22/2020 2:07:09 AM
I, too, gleefully watch fascists and signal boost them.
1/22/2020 7:19:09 AM
You can't just call everyone you disagree with a fascist. Thats real fascism. Yeah he has some fascist/racist views but if I refused to watch or listen to anyone who holds some fascist or racist beliefs, I'd have to get rid of my TV and go all the way down the online leftist rabithole. This is the United States after all. The best thing about Tucker is his consistency and objectivity. He has his beliefs and he usually tries to provide facts to back them up. I enjoy listening to him break down his case even about things I most strongly disagree on like immigration. Its the best name show on MSM by a mile. Tucker hates socialism but he's still objective enough to say that Bernie is a serious candidate who the DNC doesn't want yet has the potential to beat Trump. His climate denial is usually based on the premise that the US does not have enough power to curb climate change which is also true. Its nowhere near as dangerous as the passive climate denial we've gotten from the democrats over the past decade. His "nationalism" is more of an "America first" mindset based on the fact that open borders with public welfare costs our society money up front. I can agree with those facts and disagree on moral grounds. Thats what respectful political agreement is supposed to be about. Its not that they are bad people. They always say things like "It would be great if we could help more people but I'm trying to make sure my family survives over that". I'd say we can and should afford to take in anyone and see it as an investment I'm hopeful will pay off in the longrun. Its why I respect a lot of Trump supporters like him in my personal life. On the other hand, you have liberals who are generally dishonest and try to pretend they will have it both ways. They lie and claim they will accomplish the goal of the left without the consequences the right is worried about. The real trick is they usually end up failing at both and just using at as an excuse to divert more resources towards feeding the corporatocracy and thats where I can shake hands with people like Tucker. We all want to end the MIT and general corporatocracy.[Edited on January 22, 2020 at 8:35 PM. Reason : most trump supporters and republicans are more like liberals than they are like tucker carlson]

Would you rather have a mechanic who refuses to service your car or a mechanic who takes your money, does nothing with your car for a few hours, and then says your car has been fixed and is all good and ready to go?

it was about climate change policy
1/23/2020 7:45:15 PM
A reasonable opinion: Although the Paris climate accord was better than nothing, Dems must do a lot more on climate change. Be more outspoken, play hardball, support the GND fully, etc.Earl: AcTuAlLy TuCkEr CaRlSoN iS bEtTeR oN cLiMaTe ThAn dEmS
1/23/2020 7:55:53 PM
Theres nothing reasonable about thinking pretending to solve the problem is better than refusing to address the problem. Paris was worse than doing nothing. We are closer to climate catastrophe after Paris than we were before and subsequent agreements will be much more difficult to achieve because of it.

Its a great show and they have tremendous reach and potential influence so its a shame when they do things that are so blatantly offensive or stoop to the lowest common dominator of comedy. They clearly have had some issues with filters and oversight hence the hire fire situation a few months ago. This cold open didn't offend me but I'm sure it offended a ton of evangelicals which is a shame. Evangelicals are constantly being pushed away from mainstream culture which makes everything more divided. Guess who benefits from everything being divided? The only one that offended me was the blatantly sexist mildly racist cold open where they sexualized AOC into a situation she wasn't even evolved in for no reason. It was like they had a decent skit prepared and then sat down and said "now how can we bring aoc into it".

^^^You're just being lazy then and not paying attention to my posts. All you had to do was read this very page to find a positive post from me. Unless someone was trashing a skit a liked, theres no reason to post just for the sake of posting. What good would it do for me to go all the way over there just to say I found the undercover kylo mildly funny? I'm only going to post things that are noteworthy. Its generally pointless to post about something going the way its supposed to go. You'll never see me come all the way on here just to make a post saying something like "I watched CNN's coverage of Kobe Bryant yesterday and found it generally informative and not offensive at all. Good job CNN!"? How would that contribute to discussion? Thats the internet equivalent of small talk that some call "padding". Its going to take something out of the ordinary to inspire a post from me. This is kind've how news works though. Mundane stories are underrepresented because no one wants to talk about everyday things going as planned.[Edited on January 27, 2020 at 2:47 PM. Theres a lot there to unpack.First, I don't like the notion that anyone who has a nationalist view on immigration and populist domestic views is a hypocrite. Why can't we just welcome their populism and accept that they see immigration differently? Although I disagree with these nationalist views on immigration and agree that they are xenophobic and/or racist (in origin), I'd rather agree to disagree with these types of people on immigration and accept their views as genuine than push them away. I don't believe the xenophobic and/or racist views towards immigrants comes from malt-intent but rather from ignorance and insecurity. Most of the people who hold these views haven't been afforded the privilege and opportunity to travel all over the world and realize that we are all one humanity and I don't think its fair to blame them for that. We have a big country and were all brainwashed from a young age that there was something special about our culture and the way our society functions. Something unique that could be found nowhere else in the world. Thats a lot to overcome and the people afraid of foreigners ruining it are mostly victims of brainwashing. Lastly, I favor open borders not because its better for me or better for the economy overall, but simply because my moral compass tells me that its the right thing to do based on history and my moral objection to borders in general. Thats my opinion and may or may not be supported by facts. It would not be fair for me to judge anyone who doesn't hold that same moral opinion as I do. if we start to look at their points on immigration, a lot of them are based on truths that exist in our current system and have nothing to do with race. "Taking our jobs":If you work what capitalists refer to as "low skilled labor", there are only a certain amount of jobs to go around and immigrants will compete with you for that. If the supply of workers go up, people that don't have the privilege of higher education or additional layers of skill have nothing but more competition. This is the same kind of problem as automation but with immigrants instead of machines. non college rural whites suffer the most while elites profit from lower costs of labor and the middle class gets to buy cheaper goods. More resources naturally become focused on more populated areas with the influx of immigrants and the immigrants benefit from them faster than the people who have always been in the rural areas thus passing those people. The best case scenario for these lower class rural folks is to have to move to a bigger city. We don't have a federal jobs guarantee. We don't have something like UBI to insulate our working class but if we did , then the costs of the program would be the concern which brings me to the next part. Welfare to immigrants: There is a fair concern that costs a welfare system could balloon with unchecked immigration. This wouldn't be an issue if we didn't have a system that is so stingy when it comes to welfare but we do and theres a good chance in our current system, future entitlements could be cut if they grow to become too much of the budget. These cuts would certainly hurt the natives who already depend on them. Can you really blame them for being against any policy that might put more pressure on social programs? The argument could be made that in the long term, our economy will become stronger as a result of mass immigration, and I believe this. I also think the Tucker crowd would favor immigration if they knew for sure it would boost our economic prosperity but theres also a real possibility that I'm wrong and the economy could end up weaker. Anyone who pretends they know the economic outcome of mass immigration far into the future is the real full of shit. Bottom line: I think of immigration just like climate change in terms of people living in poverty. You can't expect people with no economic security of or security of basic needs to start looking at external problems like immigration and climate change. They simply can't give a damn about those issues until their basic needs are secure. Its unfair and frankly elitist for you to look down and expect them to care about anything other than their survival right now from the safety of your gated 2nd home and 401k.
