It means jack shit unless we actually sign them... and win.
10/21/2008 12:28:03 PM
also don't know if this has been mentioned but we're on the list for the number 1 prospect class of 2011http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?SID=910&Year=2011&ra_key=2288
10/21/2008 1:07:37 PM
Sid is getting to these kids early, hopefully it will pay serious dividends
10/21/2008 1:36:19 PM
^^^I disagree. Sure it doesnt' mean we'll be good or anything, but it certainly is good press to have these guys actually consider us and take officials here. Other recruits and future recruits see this, analyst, AAU coaches, etc. all see this and it increases our reputation in the basketball field. It's not the be-all end-all to get good kids to come visit and have you as a top choice, but it certainly is good publicity for the future. That's just like saying that since we sucked with Hickson that we just shouldn't have signed him. Not only did he make our team better, he also helped our program tremendously. You're building a program, an image, etc. Long-term, having the top two recruits in the nation consider us and take visits DOES matter.[Edited on October 21, 2008 at 2:43 PM. Reason : ]

say what you want about hickson, but if we land favors it will because of what we did with hickson and where he ended up. we'll actually have the supporting cast for a player like that this time around and i think the results would be much better.

I can't find team rankings for basketball recruting past 2008 on either scout or rivals. Anyone have a link or is this info even available yet? Sorry for n00bing up the place
10/21/2008 3:03:12 PM
I'll noob it up too. I thought we didn't have 2 scholarships left for 2009? meaning we could only choose favors or wall.
10/21/2008 3:21:09 PM
^^don't have the link, but UCLA pulled in 5 recruits good enough to start at any D1 team
10/21/2008 3:24:21 PM
^^ that doesn't really matter. We can find the scholarships somehow. In fact, not only could we take both Favors and Wall, but Sid could even free up another ship to take another big man in addition to Wall and Favors. Not sure what the math on it is, but it is probably assuming Costner leaves after this year and we lose another body to a transfer or some such.

fuck, I forgot that Kansas had 4 5-star recruits back in 2005who the hell was Micah Downs though?
10/21/2008 3:52:39 PM
He transferred to Gonzaga, lack of PT or something
10/21/2008 4:00:59 PM
^ Yeah I lived in kansas when they got that recruiting class with Downs in it. He was one of those recruits that was just plain over-rated. He was not good enough to steal PT at Kansas and from what I remember, his attitude did not fit with Bill Self.

What kind of weight does an NC State offer in basketball hold?
10/21/2008 5:38:32 PM
It's a school with a shit-ton of history and basketball tradition, a passionate fanbase and great facilities that plays in the epicenter of college basketball, the ACC and tobacco road. We should be able to recruit with the best of em.

http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/story/1262613.htmlWall visits PackAtlanta's Favors also in attendanceJohn Wall, the top-ranked high school senior basketball player in the country, according to rivals.com, enjoyed spending time with Derrick Favors, scout.com's the top-ranked player, at N.C. State's opening practice this weekend.Wall, a 6-foot-4 point guard, attended the Wolfpack's first practice and spent time with the 6-9 Favors. The South Atlanta High senior was on his official visit to State.Wall and Favors know each other from playing in the Boost Mobile Elite 24 all-star game in New York this summer."He is a great player," Wall said. "I asked if he was serious about State, and he said he was. He said he was having a good visit."Wall doesn't plan any more official recruiting visits until after he takes the SAT on Nov. 1 and is considering dropping Kansas, the only school where he has officially visited.Wall said Sunday that Miami was pushing for a visit and that he was not sure he'd keep Kansas on his list after it took a commitment from 6-foot-2 Elijah Johnson of Las Vegas."I'm not sure where I am with Kansas right now," he said.Wall is considering N.C. State, Oregon, Baylor and Memphis, along with possibly either Miami or Kansas.Wall said he still planned to take his official visits, but his first priority was taking the SAT and preparing for Word of God's season. The early signing period begins Nov. 12, but he said he will not commit until he is sure of his decision. His mother recently was hospitalized and is scheduled for surgery near the end of this month.Wall said his mother's health was a concern."You only have one mother," Wall said. "Her health will be a factor in my decision, but not the biggest factor."She always stresses for me to make the best decision for me."

C.J. Fair committed to Syracuse over the weekend. They were his only offer so far according to Scout. We had been in contact with Fair (to complete the C.J. trifecta and break the Jimmy V curse ) and I think he had unofficially visited us before, perhaps during an AAU tournament or something. Fair is rated the #12 PF and #48 overall by Scout, and the #11 PF and #45 overall by Rivals for the 2010 class. Syracuse already has a commitment by 5* SG Dion Waiters in the 2010 class.
10/21/2008 11:42:48 PM
How the fuck did Miami get into the Wall runnings?Has he been to their arena? If he takes a visit there during a game, surely he would leave laughing.
10/22/2008 1:24:02 AM
just take him to calle ocho, lincoln road, washington ave, or ocean drive son
10/22/2008 1:45:55 AM
Miami doesn't really seem into it. Someone on PP said that one of the assistants told him that it was basically down to Memphis and State for Wall right now as those are his two leaders, and GT and State for Favors. Both though still have a couple more official visits to take which could sway them.[Edited on October 22, 2008 at 7:57 AM. Reason : ]

dude, getting "in" w/ worldwide wes would be the awesome.

I am a HUGE fan of being placed on probation, which is what will ultimately happen if that guy hangs around your program for too long...

Well I do know that someone asked O.J. Mayo why he didn't go to UCLA and rather went to USC, and he said something along the lines of making a name for himself. At UCLA he'd be just another All-American, but at USC he could be a really special player for them.I think a NC State offer in basketball should carry a good amount of weight. We've got some of the most posh facilities in college basketball. We've got great fans. We've got history that is only exceeded by about 7 or so other schools, we've just got to get back to being relevant. We've got a ton of money as well. Based on past surveys we are the 4th most profitable basketball program out there behind Louisville, Kentucky, and UNC, which is somewhat due to us having smart business and money conserving tactics. We are tied with UCLA as the 13th most valuable program in college basketball according to Forbes. NC State's basketball program is worth $13.6 million. Our expenses are only $3.1 million, which is the lowest of any team Forbes list of the most valuable college basketball programs. Every year State's basketball program pulls in nearly $8 million. We have attendance that is always ranked in the top 20 nationally (could be top 10 if we had a good team). We should be a heavy hitter based on all of this. And no one better bring up that recruits won't care or know about our history. Which is more impressive walking into the RBC Center and seeing all of those banners and jerseys of ACC legends hanging or walking into Littlejohn Coliseum and just seeing a couple banners here and there?I know there are a lot of factors that go into a recruits decision, but I know that I along with many of you when looking at a prospect like to analyze their offer list.

^ i agree w/ you wholly, i fucking hate sharing our arena w/ the hurricanse... BUT, we're not competing w/ unc on this one.
10/22/2008 2:25:25 PM
yeah i know, i was joking about that in the more general sense. I assumed he was also referring to the banners in a general sense, since he mentioned littlejohn, and clemson also isn't in the mix.[Edited on October 22, 2008 at 2:28 PM. Reason : asdf]
10/22/2008 2:27:48 PM
yeah you're right, i didn't even read the original context.although really, we won't be competing w/ unc for a while, they're booked up for the next 10 years.
10/22/2008 2:30:07 PM
10/22/2008 2:45:06 PM
but if you're not NC state, you can get away with anything...
10/22/2008 2:48:59 PM
I was just using Clemson as an example of a school that we should easily out recruit and out perform on a consistent basis. Of course our history isn't quite up to Carolina's, but really only a couple of other schools are (Duke, KU, UK, UCLA, and IU).
