You guys think battery life will be worth a shit on this 3g iPhone? I'm excited, but I'm not holding my breath...
5/31/2008 2:15:55 PM
well, you can of course turn the 3G off... I'm not so sure that if you evaluated the power used per kb downloaded that 3G would be less efficient. it may use power more quickly but it just seems that 3G is so much faster that in the end it'd be more efficienti dunno, just an idea. either way the battery life sucked on my iphone there at the end and you'll be able to turn the 3G off probably so i dont see it being any worse

"safari cannot open another windows because too many windows are open"or however that message goes, is annoying.why can't it just take over a window which is already open?
6/2/2008 5:35:50 PM
Because that wouldn't be very intuitive. It's assuming you want to keep the windows you already have if you're opening a new one.
6/2/2008 5:44:11 PM
When in June was it that news was coming?
6/3/2008 2:31:24 PM
I believe it was June 33rd, 2008
6/3/2008 8:01:05 PM
33rd eh

Anyone else upgraded to the latest version (1.01 I think) of Intelliscreen? I did it last night anda) Intelliscreen stopped working altogether. It started talking about registration codes and 10 day trials and whatnot, but I couldn't get it to even load.and b) Youtube stopped working. It would act like it was going to load up and then it would boot me back out to the main screen. Uninstalling the program fixed the youtube problem. But damn. I really liked intelliscreen.]
6/5/2008 9:25:51 AM
just thought of this as well. a have a friend who uses http://www.simplifymedia.com/ on his jailbroken iphone, so he essentially has 10000000000 mp3s available to stream at all times from his iphone.
6/5/2008 10:08:52 AM
I just use the orb player to do the same thing.
6/5/2008 10:15:31 AM
^same here. although not on an iphone. It streams all my HD movies to my phone very nicely. Just wish my time warner upload was faster.

want to see something awesome?http://www.battlebricks.com/iphone-lego-nxt-robot/index.html
6/6/2008 3:19:51 PM
how is this better than using the wireless controller that comes with a lego kit? I would think 2 iphones would be a little more expensive.
6/6/2008 3:45:00 PM
check it out
6/6/2008 4:38:04 PM
6/6/2008 6:00:19 PM
^^by third generation I'm sure he's counting the intro (4/8gb models) as the first gen, the 8/16gb the second and this the third...not complicatedbut I know what you mean.
6/6/2008 7:13:49 PM
i know what wi-max is, but i wasn't aware that it was a wanted feature for the iPhone, or for any hand-held device at this point.
6/6/2008 8:35:25 PM
The general public doesn't really know anything about it thus it's not a feature that's really asked for since it's a future technology. 3G is a current technology that's simply expected to be in a device as high-end as the iPhone
6/6/2008 9:12:26 PM
so wtf is the latest on this $200 iphone rumor?
6/6/2008 11:02:41 PM
my gf's iphone suddenly stopped playing music. all her mp3s and even her itunes ringtones stopped working. If you try to play a song in the ipod mode, it just sits there...wtf?
6/8/2008 9:40:56 AM
1pm can't come soon enough... im already constantly refreshing engadget... my life is sad
6/9/2008 12:28:08 PM
3g + GPS + morehttp://live.gizmodo.com/
6/9/2008 2:45:55 PM
so how do you guys think the battery life on this will compare to the current version? assuming minor/no gps usage while using voice/data in a 3g area?
6/9/2008 2:54:51 PM
what do you want people to base that answer on other than a wild guess?the #s released in the 1 slide today are hardly an indicator of real usage - especially without specifying how much talk time or data usage ]]
6/9/2008 2:55:47 PM
based the stats offered today...for starters i didn't know there was a difference between 2g talk and 3g talk...i thought 3g was only for faster datahere's the current specs: http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.htmlit says talk time is a max of 8 hours...but 3g talk is only 5 hours on the new onebrowsing went from 6 hours on the old version to 5-6 on the new one, so that seems ok.standby has gained up to 50 more hours]
6/9/2008 2:58:42 PM
Yeah does 3g talk sound better than 2g talk?
6/9/2008 3:02:49 PM
oh and if they didn't improve the signal/call quality on the new iphone i'm not gonna be very happy.its nice to add new features, but dropping calls where i didn't used to with my sony ericssons sucks]
6/9/2008 3:04:19 PM
I suspect the plastic casing on the back will improve call quality. That's the only logic I can see from switching from the aluminum.
6/9/2008 3:04:54 PM
]
6/9/2008 3:12:16 PM
So when does this thing come out? Because my iphone went down the garbage disposal and hasn't been 100% right ever since and I've just been putting off getting a replacement because I'm waiting on the new one, how much longer do I have to put up with this?
6/9/2008 3:20:12 PM
6/9/2008 3:24:34 PM
^^like you dropped it down the garbage disposal?
6/9/2008 3:24:53 PM
6/9/2008 3:31:19 PM
wow i wish you had gotten that on video.

6/9/2008 3:44:21 PM
weren't there apple/AT&T memos about vacation blackouts for June? I feel so disillusioned
6/9/2008 3:45:47 PM
A-GPS: bye bye garmin (and any other stand alone Navi...)bluetooth 2.0 - awesome.I dont see how anyone can compete with this for $200... I'm leaving verizon unless they give me unlimited for $20/mo - still then I still would prob switch.
6/9/2008 4:04:27 PM
Acording to this site the data plan for AT&T has gone up to $30/month now.http://www.iphonebuzz.com/wwdc-2008-apple-announces-3g-iphone-availability-092647.php
6/9/2008 4:10:30 PM
6/9/2008 4:13:42 PM
GPS, 3G = Gimmie
6/9/2008 4:22:20 PM
Sorry for the stupid question, i dont know much about phone technology.Does the iphone being 3g mean it can be used on other networks now?Like could I go to the apple store, buy one, and use it on verizon?
6/9/2008 4:33:55 PM
^No. Think of it as like a switching from dialup internet to cable internet. It's just a much faster wireless connection for data. It's still not a CDMA phone , so you can't use it on Verizon.
6/9/2008 4:35:04 PM
will GPS be a monthly fee?
6/9/2008 4:36:48 PM
^No, its a signal you can pickup with any GPS enabled device.
6/9/2008 4:40:03 PM
^which is weird because my mom's BB has gps, but she has to pay for the service. So does anyone fully understand the 2g/3g talk time difference? Is the quality of 3g talk so much better that it warrants the use of it over 2g? I mean if the talk quality is the same why not use 2g for 10 hours rather than 3g for 5 hours?
6/9/2008 4:42:24 PM
Theoretically, Apple could lock-out the GPS capability of the phone unless you subscribed to it, but they gave no indication they would
