my theory is that in the next coming episodes hurley will be manning the number again and decide to let them go to 0
at the same time as this, sayid and jack explore more in the concrete tunnel and eventually find something down there that requires the numbers being inputted..whether it being the magnet or something worse..something that would affect the island
hurley will probably let the timer get down to 30 secs when jack and sayid rush back up to him and tell him to push the buttons
but of course we wont know exactly what they find, only that it is apparent that not entering the numbers will cause some kind of disaster

thus giving us another episode with more questions than answers

I just don't see why Walt on the carton means anything. It is just a joke the producers wanted to put in...
Hurley didn't even see it. Noone saw it except some keen viewers.

when the timer got very close to zero when jack and locke were argueing about it...it looked like it flashed 000:00 then went back up to 108:00. If this was the case and this is some sort of bomb or whatever, wouldnt any flash of 000:00 cause it to "go off." Maybe not, but i thought so. Also, they were talking quite seriously about this being a psychological project, i would like to hear more about that. Someone mentioned the "tracks between the bunkers". With what we saw of jack and sayid underneath the bunker, this could be some possiibility. However i was just fine with the scene ending with kate in a towel...just what i think at least

some small speculation floating around that Hurley's boss at Cluckey's is awfully similar to Locke's boss at his shitty job (the guy who makes fun of him for playing A&A or whatever during his lunch break).

and sure enough:

She was just hallucinating.... she was worried about the dog, it was lost... and plus they were all worried about the raft as well, if it would work, etc...

yeah both guys are named Randy (locke's boss and hurley's boss)

didn't locke work at a box company? didn't hurley own a box company? and why does locke insist on calling hurley by his first name? maybe because hurley's beautiful fluffy hair is mounted somewhere on the box company walls

Perhaps Hurley felt sorry for his boss at the chicken place so he made him the boss of the box company he owned after receiving his lottery winnings.

Just found this on a site listing the connection between the characters. Kinda interesting, but I don't know if it is true.

In honor of tonight's disapointing, boring, filler episode I thought I present the following:

Quote :
"THEY'RE MAKING IT UP AS THEY GO

The LOST creators have often claimed they know where the show is going and that everything will ultimately add up. Well, the current creators anyway. There was absolutely no master plan on LOST," insists David Fury, a co-executive producer last season who wrote the series' two best episodes and is now a writer-producer on 24. "Anybody who said that is lying."

"On a show like LOST, it becomes a great big shaggy-dog story," he continues cheerily. "They keep saying there's meaning in everything, and I'm here to tell you no -- a lot of things are just arbitrary. What I always tried to do was connect these random elements, to create the illusion that it was all adding up to something."

Many plot elements were concocted on the fly, Fury says; for example, the didn't know Hurley won the lottery until it came time to write his episode. "I don't like to talk about when we come up with ideas," [Damon] Lindelof (Head Writer) demurs. "It's a magic trick. But we planned that plot: We seeded references to it in earlier episodes."

Fury disagrees. He says scenes with those references were filmed much later and inserted into earlier yet-to-air episodes: "it's a brilliant trick to make us look smart. But soing that created a huge budget problem.""

then you're automatically under the cloud

i understand the chart b/c i made it

Woodfoot understands the chart

saps understands the chart

you don't

lokken doesn't (funny he hasn't appeared tonight.... )

more people miss the point of the chart than understand it

just finished watching it and i have to agree that for the most part this episode is just filler to us, but I have to wonder if the creaters have a reason for all this extra stuff. Tonight's episode was basically character development for Hurley, revealing more about his life away from the island, with some answers about the passengers in the back thrown in and the question of the concrete introduced.

All the background information and connections between the characters really makes the idea that they were "chosen" to be there not seem that far fetched. My question is, why do so many of these "connections" seem so insignificant? I mean really, its pretty obvious that Locke's boss is the same as Hurley's boss, then theres the whole Jack and Desmond thing, and now people are saying that the girl who calls out the winning lotto numbers is the same that as one that was with Sawyer. What is the point of these little connections? The "Charlie" () in me says that they're just throwing the connections in to fuck with the viewers and draw them into the show more. At the same time, a part of me wants to believe that there is a reason for it all, that maybe all of this was set into action long before they got to the island, and there are a few key people that were in on it.

I just hope that the creaters have everything planned out to where the show has a set story, tells it and then ends. I used to love the X-Files, but it ran so long, and was so drawn out, that by the end all of the plot twists and everything that had been done up to that point were pointless.

^^Well shit, throw all this out the window...what the fuck, people just come up with an idea to sell a show and then drag it until its dea...why can't they say "here is what we want to do, it willl take this long to tell the story, if it does well we can work on a follow up, but this is what its going to be now," and just go with an idea. Instead we get a buch of shit that gets LOST in a web that they spin to keep the show going.

MacGyver, check out the link tl posted on this page...the 5th one down

sarijoul, i don't expect full closure, but i'd like to think that they know where they're going with it and not just making it up as they go along. I guess its like watching a movie that starts out good, drags in the middle, and then you end up leaving the theater going "what the fuck?"

Personally, I like a show that makes the viewer think about what is going on, how it connects to what has happened before, and gives the viewers a chance to guess about what is going on. It's just when a show loses track of where its going and leaves the viewers guessing just for the sake of them watching the next week that I get annoyed. Hopefully this won't turn out to be like that, despite the quote that Charlie posted.

Im not saying it wasnt him, it obviously is....I just dont see how during the episode tonight people can claim it was "obvious" both of their bosses are the same.

I recall alot about the first season, and I really don't recall Locke's boss looking anything like Hurley's other than he was white and skinny.

Lost is past that point for me. What the heck was the thing in the VERY FIRST EPISODE that they made seem like a dinosaur at first? A dust cloud? These people sure are living pretty easily for having witnessed something so earth-shattering.

BDubLS1:
Quote :
"If it was Walt on the carton then the producers just put it there to be funny"

Most likely it is Walt, just think of when this occurred. It was during Hurley's dream (Jin was standing there speaking English) so somehow it was conveyed to Hurley that Walt had gone missing, but since it was in a dream he most likely didn't remember it, or if he somehow did remember seeing Walt on the milk cartoon he thought it was insignificant since it was a dream after all.

I thought that this episode was decent overall and actually did answer some questions (even though some could be easily assumed, it did confirm them), it also set up what will most likely happen in the next few episodes.

DannyBoy:
Quote :
"1) M-Rod isn't bad
2) Jin does not speak english
3) There are at least 2 bunkers on the island
4) The second bunker has a different symbol
5) There were 23 survivors from the back of the plane, roughly 6-7 are still alive
6) The survivors are NOT the others
7) The others are 'infected' or at least that what they implied with the preview for next week
8) Hurley inventoried all the food and eventually started distributing it to everyone
9) Rose's husband, Bernard is still alive...and he's white"

1)This was pretty obvious (but now confirmed) since we saw her with Jack in the airport, but somewhat questionable due to her actions from the previous episode.
2)This was pretty obvious (well except to Lokken)
3)Since the video only said there were 6 stations (it did NOT say all 6 were on the same island) it does prove that there are at least 2 stations on the island if not more.
4)Whether or not this symbol matches the one on the shark could show that there are infact more than 2 bunkers on the island.
5)I think this is one of the biggest ones of the episode. Not that the new people are from the tail section of the plane, but that there were at one point 23 of them, and now there are just 6 left.
6)I thought that this was pretty obvious but some others might not have (i. more on 5 and 6 later)
7)Not too sure about this one
8)That is what happened with the food, but I think the bigger picture is something totally different(ii.)
9)This proved that Rose was right by saying her husband was alive all this time and that she wasn't trying to deny the fact that he was (most likely) dead, so she somehow actually knew he was still alive. And the fact that he was white and not the big black dude was kind of surprising.

I think it answered a few questions, confirmed a few assumptions, and then set the stage for what will happen in the next few episodes.

i. The reason that the tail section survivors acted the way they did when they found Michael, Jin, and Sawyer is that they have probably ran into The Others or met someone like Ethan before. This would explain why their numbers have dwindled from 23 to 6. I think that this is kind of interesting because Ethan only killed survivors from the fuselage when they had something that he/The Others wanted. Since 17 of the tail section survivors have died it would seem like they also have something that The Others want, but what, if anything at all?

ii. The whole backstory about Hurley was to set the stage for him wanting to blow the food up with the dynamite. If they just cut to Hurley trying to blow the food up without the back story it wouldn't have made much sense, but since they did set the stage with the backstory we can see why he wanted to do it, but I don't think that was the main purpose. I think the main purpose was to get the dynamite into the hatch. Since Sayid and Jack were trying to get through the 8 foot thick concrete wall, and there seemed to be no real conceivable way to get through, they would need to use something to help them get through (ie. the dynamite that is now readily available in the hatch).

THe fact that her husband wasnt the big black guy, was NOT that suprising. I, like most I hope, never even coinsidered him her husband. The fact that her husband as white, was a shock, but I dont think it means that much to the story.

actually you stupid mother fucker...I said that M-Rod and them could have been captured by The Others. Which at the time, it was a possibility. We have yet to see how their group have interacted with the others.

Jin doesnt speak english yet. Yep its all over. throw it out the window...tonight was the LAST episode of LOST ever...he'll never learn/manage to communicate in english. UNPOSSIBLE

This thread has turned into a pathetic circle jerk that really isnt any fun to read anymore. Giving eachother hell about theories is fine but you guys take way too much pride in your lack of ability to enjoy the show for what it is.

So ill take a cue from Locutus and peace out of this thread. Its useless now.

I thought the comment Locke made to Hurley was interesting...the one about how it's his job to make sure people keep pushing the button. Seemed to me like the writers were taking a punch at religion there, since Locke represents faith.

LOST NUMBERS THEORY:

The numbers represent how many people each station needs to operate. notice that there were 23 survivors in the other group... in the original group, there were 44 then 2 died right off the bat (the girl drowns and official is shot), and when boone dies the baby is born immediately and walt is taken and something like that...anyways, i think the second group is around 42 or whatever....just an idea im playing around with and havent put it all together...feel free to weigh in!

I don't know if this has been suggested, but I wonder if the countdown releases steam from the power generator that Sayid believes is behind the concrete.

Perhaps the accident from the video was that the power generator can't be shut off, and now if you don't release the pressure every 108 minutes, the generator could explode.

Just a thought

Probably none, since none of those are a part of the dharma initiative. Off the top of my head, the dharma initiative is zoology, meteorology, utopian societies, electromagnetism, and parapsychology. I couldn't even make out the dharma logo they had in their bunker.

She didn't mumble anything weird, she said "coming out" rewatch it with closed captions on, it'll tell you. And I guess you can believe anything you want, but there's really no reason to beleive she is, other than that's she being a bitch.
