I'm open to expanding the Supreme Court to have thirteen justices, and the fact that there are thirteen circuits seems like a valid enough reason to do it.However, there aren't currently enough Democratic senators that are willing to expand the size of the court, and the Supreme Court seems to be poised to prevent that from ever happening. It appears that the American right has the American left in check, if not in checkmate.

If you watch the video, Becerra states that they'll continue to do everything in their power to do to protect women's healthcare. He also has to shoot down an idea of using federal land as abortion clinics, which was realistically a non-starter anyways due to Hyde Amendment and a plethora of other issues. Becerra is also actively working with DoJ to protect pharmaceutical options. For the love of god, stop getting your news from twitter.
7/3/2022 5:14:29 PM
there’s a non-zero chance that he’s gonna get so desperate for approval that he may go to to left to gin up support which would rule, regardless of how late it is^ sounds like a great a reason to get rid of the Hyde Amendment [Edited on July 3, 2022 at 5:15 PM. Reason : .]
7/3/2022 5:14:50 PM
Agreed, it's up to Congress on that. Biden submitted a budget last year that did not include it, hopefully it goes through this yearhttps://www.plannedparenthood.org/about-us/newsroom/press-releases/biden-harris-administration-releases-its-second-presidential-budget-without-hyde-amendment-includes-critical-domestic-and-global-family-planning-investments[Edited on July 3, 2022 at 5:17 PM. 7/3/2022 5:17:22 PM
I did watch the video? They asked about federal lands but he gave a totally mealy mouthed answer and had no plans other than "doing what we can." make a plan, then go on tv.
7/3/2022 6:20:56 PM
And that's significantly harder to do when AOC/Warren suggest plans with dubious standing like 'immediately open clinics on federal land'Is that a Hyde Amendment violation? How do we ensure protection for workers if they aren't federal workers? How do we ensure protection of patients after they leave the clinic? It seems like you just hear an idea on twitter and immediately want to see it implemented without considering if it's even possible.
7/3/2022 6:28:37 PM
My God dude im not even asking for the plan this time just asking what is the value of going on tv with no plan?He didn't even give a "no" about the federal lands thing, just said "doing what we can", if he wants to shut it down he should say "no" and say why.
7/3/2022 6:31:58 PM
Just curious, did you actually watch the entire interview or just the easily digestible soundbite on twitter?
7/3/2022 6:38:50 PM
7/3/2022 6:41:59 PM
Alright, if it's that easy, please provide me an actual plan that AOC/Warren has put forth that's more than a sentence of details of how to protect women, employees, and build these clinics.
7/3/2022 6:45:11 PM
^^^The whole thing, unfortunatelyOh no the entire executive administration and 95% congressional Dems are being bullied by aoc and Warren! Kinda sad that two people can out publicity 100s.AOC and Warren are not innocent btw. Their "soundbites" are more than anyone else has had though. [Edited on July 3, 2022 at 6:56 PM. Reason : R]
7/3/2022 6:53:41 PM
That's patently untrue. HHS has set up a website to steer people towards their options and resources to get abortions. HHS is working with DOJ to figure out a comprehensive way to protect access to drugs (mail order and other avenues) Biden's budget doesn't include the Amendment Biden said he support codifying and removal of the filibuster to do so. HHS and Labor are working with insurers to ensure access to contraception/make sure they're following the ACA. HHS has said they're working to provide travel option to women seeking care.etc. Yes, it's not perfect, but it's way more than a soundbite. If AOC and Warren have better plans, THEY NEED TO SHARE THEM. All the details don't need to be fleshed out, but it sure as hell needs to be more than a sentence or two.
7/3/2022 7:01:47 PM
Here's a personal thought, I'm no wonk so maybe a pipe dream: but congressional leaders and Biden whip 48 members of senate to come out loudly and publicly that if we get 52,they'll vote to overturn the filibuster and codify Roe. Then fundraise on THAT.
7/3/2022 7:02:44 PM
And again, I don't think you realize how damaging it is for AOC or any Dem figurehead, to say "Biden is historically weak on abortion" and then just give a quick idea that isn't rooted in reality. It depresses the voter turnout for 2022. Dems need to be absolutely lockstep and attack Republicans on this. AOC/Warren/The governor of a deep blue state doesn't like what Biden is doing? FINE, introduce your own plan, lay out specifics, introduce legislation, do something.
7/3/2022 7:05:00 PM
can’t hurt the fee fees of elected officials because it’ll turn away voters, even though there’s no data to support that claim
7/3/2022 7:10:44 PM
Depression is one of the biggest predictors of absenteeism at the polls. If you don't think infighting in the party causes that, I don't know what to tell you. Also, it's not hurting the feelings of the officials, it's riling up their base against that official despite being on relatively the same side, which again, hurts voter turnout. [Edited on July 3, 2022 at 7:25 PM. Reason : a]
7/3/2022 7:13:46 PM
rwoody, since I answer all of your questions, answer this one of mine. AOC attacking Biden for being weak on abortion (despite it being false) and presenting a soundbite plan that's likely unrealistic does which of the followingA: Increases voter turnout in 2022B: Depresses voter turnout in 2022C: Has no impact on voter turnout in 2022 but increases fundraising numbers for AOCD: Has no impact on voter turnout, no impact on fundraising.
7/3/2022 7:28:14 PM
I don't think I ask you many questions, I'm usually responding to you lol. TSB would be fairly dead without me posting something and you shitting on it, one benefit of our arguments. That said, without agreeing in whole with the 'facts' of the question, I think today it would be B or C.If there are no major steps or promises bw now and November, just B.^x6? Gotta get dinner but I'll try to come back to the list of 'actions', although I did praise coming out in favor of ditching the filibuster [Edited on July 3, 2022 at 7:44 PM. Reason : E]
7/3/2022 7:43:32 PM
And that's the thing, ideas getting mainstream attention like impeachment or abortion clinics on federal land raises expectations, so no matter what Biden does, a lot will see it as not enough and it'll depress turnout. If Biden had the power or capability to do some of these things, I'd 100% be calling for it, but he doesn't. Too many people just don't have a good understanding of how our government works.
7/4/2022 1:45:53 PM
In this case I'm only getting my news from Twitter and haven't had a chance to read the details, but towards what bbehe mentioned I suppose. I'll give a preemptive +1 cred until I read more

https://twitter.com/greg_price11/status/1545441526133788673This must be one of those situations where if you dislike President Biden, you don't hear him say, "let me repeat," but if you like President Biden, you do hear him say, "let me repeat."Personally, I think that he says it but that he just fumbles saying it. Why would someone put, "Repeat the line," in a teleprompter? They would just put, "Let me repeat," and then repeat the line. Also, "end of quote," is a fairly common thing that people say.[Edited on July 8, 2022 at 7:52 PM. Reason : ]

well, the inflation report was just spectacular. not saying its his fault or he can do anything about it but...if this keeps up no amount of abortion or jan6 hearings will change the bloodbath. especially not with the usual progressives bickering and octogenarians doing whatever they do.EDIT: sorry if this isnt particularly helpful... i just think democrats need to elevate basically everything to "four alarm fire" levels. i am not really getting an urgent vibe here, things are bad, dont give republicans the chance to make them worse.[Edited on July 13, 2022 at 4:30 PM. Is Pupils really trying to explain away Biden's reading of the teleprompter queues?
7/14/2022 11:13:49 AM
yes but it doesn't really matter does it?
7/14/2022 11:49:19 AM
You think it makes sense to put "Repeat the line" in the teleprompter and not just have the line appear twice?I've never read from a teleprompter, so I don't know what the standard protocol is, but I would think that entering cues like that would tend to be avoided for this exact reason.
7/14/2022 2:01:49 PM
it makes much more since that a man with a history of stuttering would fumble the phrase, “let me repeat the line”hilarious that our resident teleprompter cop has decided to return to the forceas has been said, this doesn’t matter at all
7/14/2022 2:06:07 PM
I agree that it doesn't matter. I was mostly intrigued by people's reactions to it.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/abc-mexico-pay-15-billion-us-border-security/storyReally can't decide how to feel about this one. First instinct is to laugh at Trump but then the "ah our wonderful dystopia" feelings come back in.
7/15/2022 6:54:40 AM
Why would you be against border security?

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/abc-mexico-pay-15-billion-us-border-security/story?id=86672772Is the correct one. The tl:dr is Mexico agreed to help contribute to infrastructure modernization to allow for security upgrades, more modern processing stations, etc.Just because you want a secure border, doesn't mean you're anti-immigration. This isn't a stupid wall that would never have worked.
7/15/2022 7:59:55 AM
Wait, so you're saying that Trump, in the end, really did get Mexico to pay? Lol.
7/15/2022 10:34:22 AM
No I'm saying Biden did, in a way, what Trump couldn't. Although better spend it before 2024 or it could be going right back to the wall
7/15/2022 11:49:38 AM
So who here thinks Newsom will primary Biden?
7/15/2022 12:54:43 PM
I'd still be (somewhat) surprised if Biden is even a candidate. I hope not.even before this inflation, which I'm not saying is entirely his fault or even that there's too much that he can do about it. But now that it seems it's going to be a huge thing, i really don't see how he could win a re-election, and if he wins the nomination, it's going to result in an easy republican victory[Edited on July 15, 2022 at 1:52 PM. Biden isn't going to make himself a lame duck before the midterms.
7/15/2022 5:02:38 PM
^ Seriously, it's not a hard concept, the accepted calculus is if there is an announcement, it would be after midterms

It's really hard for me to imagine a serious challenge to Biden since Dem primaries aren't winner take all. For someone like Newsom, it seems like he'd be better waiting for 2028
