one of my best friends and her husband designed a few of those

^cool...they are a great addition to downtown!! Some are so nice and new looking I never see bikes on them....nobody wants to ruin the art.

^He probably meant about being a hardass over small issues? Maybe? I don't quite get the connection either.

Higher military rank = better parking spots.
5/29/2013 11:20:46 PM
That's the part I don't get. The spots in question are literally directly adjacent to a skyway into city hall.

It's the same. The other one was named the same as Cary in North Raleigh for a while. Weird situation...Luckily I found Salvio's in Cary which is good...

CityGate Realty took over the building on the corner of Peace & Glenwood, across from MoJoe's.They painted over that godawful mural that faced Peace, which was an excellent decision. However, now they've done something even worse: the front windows (facing Glenwood) are now filled with two giant video screens bordered by blue neon. The screens show homes and agents' headshots, but the colors are super saturated, so the night is lit by four foot images of orange men and women in polo shirts and tank tops.It looks like something out of Tim & Eric. I might not hate it in a vacuum, but on the edge of Brooklyn Heights it's pretty goddamn garish.
6/1/2013 9:48:14 PM
^Email them and tell them. I haven't seen it at night.I did drive by on the way to a Brooklyn Heights yardsale today... which sucked. Step it up, multi-family yardsales.
6/1/2013 11:18:06 PM
Email them what? That the colors are too saturated? It'd be just as bad if they didn't look like cartoons. At the end of the day, this is America and they can do what they want. I'm not going to email someone because I don't like their fucking sign.I suppose it sounded like a complaint, but I'm not complaining; I'm saying, "Look at these idiots!"
6/2/2013 12:37:21 AM
I like how right now the right side screen is just the lady sliding in with various transitions and nothing else

So great
6/4/2013 10:01:39 AM
^what a giant upgrade....makes me want to sucker punch whomever decided to throw the stucco walls up over that beautiful building! James has a knack for this stuff clearly, at least the right people around him, and plenty of cash. I hope he completes 100 more projects in the coming years!

^^that space is an over-priced death trap for businesses
6/7/2013 9:58:11 AM
^agreed, location and price may not be right for Klausie's...although having the hotel next door now is nice. I pictured them in a small space on Wilmington street or in City Market.

6/7/2013 10:45:31 AM
I really hope that location doesn't sink Klausie's.
6/7/2013 12:52:42 PM
Can't sink him any more than his demeanor.

Wonder how far Donato's delivery range will be. It would be nice to have a delivery option from a non shitty pizza chain (assuming Donato's is any good).
6/11/2013 8:54:54 AM
^^ Seems like anybody can just slap Jimmy V's name on a restaurant in that case.
6/11/2013 9:04:31 AM
^^ capital creations delivers
6/11/2013 9:18:00 AM
Thanks for the tip, never eaten their pie. Deliver south of the beltline I wonder?
6/11/2013 9:42:16 AM
Probably, depending on how far south. and they'll deliver all over raleigh if you give them a 24-hour notice. I'm a fan of CC, even if most of their workers are hippies or metal punks. Good pizza, great variety, and their salads are really good and pretty cheap.
6/11/2013 9:46:24 AM
south of the beltline meaning inside the beltline? Yes. South of the beltline meaning OTB south of the beltline? Not sure, they are located on Wake Forest near Capital. Anything of theirs is good, if you want something that is a little different than your typical Pizza, I recommend the State Fair:"STATE FAIR (WHITE CRUST)Dijon Mustard with Italian sausage, provolone, white onions and green peppers."Their spreads are also good and you can get them with bread from Vie de France.
6/11/2013 9:46:33 AM
Sounds tasty, I'll check out their menu. I doubt they'll deliver to me though; I live in Renaissance Park.

Hopefully they'll call it Oak City Ice Cream. In fact, lets start a new thread called Downtown Oak City Revitalization.
6/14/2013 9:25:50 AM
I like to call it Oakvegas

RIP Salisbury Bridge http://www.wral.com/bridge-work-closes-part-of-salisbury-street/12556764/I didn't realize that it had been closed since 2008. Just shows how fast the city works.

6/16/2013 8:34:01 PM
Anybody been to the Garland yet? I think I am going to stop by and try the pork dish with the sticky/crispy rice. Menu looks pretty good....do they set tables out around the window?
6/19/2013 10:54:33 AM
^ They do have a few tables set out, but if they're busy at all, expect to stand or take away.
6/19/2013 11:37:52 AM
^ You can also take it downstairs to Neptunes and eat down there.
6/21/2013 2:38:28 PM
^^food was solid, had the pork bowl/sticky rice. Very enjoyable, and I will be back. Hope the expanded menu/restaurant opens soon! andhttp://www.gogoraleigh.com/2013/06/21/details-emerge-about-the-l-building/
6/21/2013 2:56:11 PM
gogoraleigh author must be a smoker, they mention it twice. Only 19% of adults are smokers, and this is falling quickly. i wouldn't expect a building designer to think about them too much.i am surprised that they don't have doors that open to railings at least since there are no balconies.
6/21/2013 3:24:14 PM
Seems to also apply somewhat of a suburban mentality with regards to outdoor space. Balconies are nice don't get me wrong, but one of the advantages of city living is that you are surrounded by such space. It's difficult to convey that point sometimes. I often talk to people who are aghast at the idea of living somewhere like New York City and will usually cite primarily things like tiny apartments and not having a yard. But, if you live in a place where you have easy to access to beautiful park spaces and such an incredible wealth of great public spaces, bars, restaurants, etc., those sorts of amenities become less important.
6/21/2013 3:28:49 PM
yeah, that article about the L is shit
6/21/2013 3:36:03 PM
