I don't understand. Are colonels supposed to be pussies or something?

That's the part I don't get. The spots in question are literally directly adjacent to a skyway into city hall.

Triangle Restaurant News
Triangle restaurant news...that not everyone knows. Impress your co-workers at the water cooler.

Featured Restaurant News

Triangle Restaurant Week’s summer event starts Monday and goes through June 9. More than 85 restaurants in Raleigh, Cary, Durham and Chapel Hill will be offering three-course lunches for $15 and three-course dinners for $20 or $30. And speaking from experience, I’d highly encourage you to secure reservations before heading out (and you can do that via Open Table for 54 of those restaurants here). Get all the details here.

Wake County Restaurant News

After some pretty significant delays, Randy’s Pizza announced last week via their Facebook page that they will officially swing open their doors at their newest location (Lake Boone Trail in Raleigh - former Bear Rock location) on June 3rd. Check them out here on Facebook.

The Triangle Business Journal reported this week that Kai Sushi & Sake Bar restaurant has opened in the Greystone Village shopping center at the intersection of Lead Mine and Sawmill roads. Kai Sushi is filling the corner space that was previously occupied by the Stella Mare Ristorante & Pizzeria that closed last year.

The Triangle’s second location of PDQ will open to the general public this Sunday, June 2nd at 10:30 a.m. in Wake Forest. PDQ is a fast casual restaurant specializing in chicken tenders, salads, sandwiches, fresh cut fries and milkshakes. The address is 11690 Northpark Drive. Get all the details here.

Last week we told you that the Fuhgeddaboudit Pizza in Cary at 3450 Kildaire Farm Road was becoming Camos Brothers Pizza. Their website now says that they are open! They also have a location on North Raleigh. Get more details here.

Also in Cary, I got word this week from my buddy Shane Phillips that Alison Rocker has bought Unwine’d on Chatham Street in Cary and is changing the name to Unvined. Look for it to open on or about the first week in June. It will be a wine and tapas bar where they will also be selling the wine they serve by the bottle or case. We will keep you posted.

not much in the way of downtown news, but it is Triangle Restaurant Week next week.

Anybody heard any news about AC's coffee shop Joule?

I wonder if anything is changing besides the name? I've always thought their pizza was pretty good. "see more details here" just takes you to their new website. Not very helpful.

It's the same. The other one was named the same as Cary in North Raleigh for a while. Weird situation...

Luckily I found Salvio's in Cary which is good...

CityGate Realty took over the building on the corner of Peace & Glenwood, across from MoJoe's.

They painted over that godawful mural that faced Peace, which was an excellent decision.

However, now they've done something even worse: the front windows (facing Glenwood) are now filled with two giant video screens bordered by blue neon. The screens show homes and agents' headshots, but the colors are super saturated, so the night is lit by four foot images of orange men and women in polo shirts and tank tops.

It looks like something out of Tim & Eric. I might not hate it in a vacuum, but on the edge of Brooklyn Heights it's pretty goddamn garish.

^Email them and tell them. I haven't seen it at night.

I did drive by on the way to a Brooklyn Heights yardsale today... which sucked. Step it up, multi-family yardsales.

Email them what? That the colors are too saturated? It'd be just as bad if they didn't look like cartoons.

At the end of the day, this is America and they can do what they want. I'm not going to email someone because I don't like their fucking sign.

I suppose it sounded like a complaint, but I'm not complaining; I'm saying, "Look at these idiots!"

I like how right now the right side screen is just the lady sliding in with various transitions and nothing else

Its the rank when they start turning into pampered prima donnas. The only thing that would surprise me less would be if we found out that the wife was angry because she was a colonels wife and couldn't use his better parking spot.

" Wake County Restaurant News

After an unconventional “soft opening” we got word this week from the Triangle Business Journal that the Garland officially opened this past week. The restaurant will serve dinner only on Tuesday through Saturday nights and will introduce lunch and late-night options in the coming weeks. The dining room is still being renovated, so for now, service remains “through the window.” Check them out here.

While not 100% confirmed, we feel secure in telling you that the former Hot Box Pizza location on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh will become the newest location for Tijuana Flats here in the Triangle. With locations already in Raleigh and Cary, and one on the way to 9th Street in Durham, this will be the 4th Triangle location. Check them out here.

Here's another good rumor, New Raleigh hinted this week that Klausie’s Pizza would be opening a brick and mortar location in the former Draft location on Glenwood South (and before that, Hi-5). We’ll keep an eye on it and give you updates as we get them. In the meantime, track Klausies down here.

And speaking of pizza, and downtown Raleigh, New Raleigh also turned us onto the news this week that Donato’s Pizza is moving into Seaboard Station. No word yet on their time frame, but we’ll keep an eye on it. Check them out here."

http://trianglefoodguy.blogspot.com/

Some decent downtown/h-boro street news today. Happy for Klausie's Pizza, not sure if that is the right space for them, but its cool that he has been successful enough to open a brick and mortar shop.

Probably, depending on how far south. and they'll deliver all over raleigh if you give them a 24-hour notice. I'm a fan of CC, even if most of their workers are hippies or metal punks. Good pizza, great variety, and their salads are really good and pretty cheap.

south of the beltline meaning inside the beltline? Yes. South of the beltline meaning OTB south of the beltline? Not sure, they are located on Wake Forest near Capital.

Anything of theirs is good, if you want something that is a little different than your typical Pizza, I recommend the State Fair:
"STATE FAIR (WHITE CRUST)

Dijon Mustard with Italian sausage, provolone, white onions and green peppers."

Their spreads are also good and you can get them with bread from Vie de France.

We caught wind this week from New Raleigh that Oak City Meatball is coming to the Red Hat building in the space formerly occupied by Wild Ginger. This is another concept from Ken Yowell, who is also behind Moonlight Pizza, Calavera Empanadas and Tequila as well as 3 more restaurants that are on the way. Two of those will be in Carrboro - East Main Meatball Company and another empanadas concept. Stay tuned for more details.

The spirit of Jim Valvano lives on. And this time it is in a new restaurant concept called Jimmy V’s Osteria + Bar which will be opening this summer adjacent to the Sheraton Hotel Downtown Raleigh. The unique partnership with the V Foundation will result in a donation of 2.5% of all sales to the foundation. We’ll let you know when they set an open date. Get a sneak peak at their website here.

We told you about it last week, but thanks to the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, we have confirmed the opening date of Donatos Pizza Subs & Salads in downtown Raleigh’s Seaboard Station. They will swing open their doors on June 25th. Get more information on Donatos here.

In the vague category, we got word this week from New Raleigh that a new ice cream place is coming to Wilmington Street in downtown Raleigh. How is that for vague? We’ll keep an eye on it.

gogoraleigh author must be a smoker, they mention it twice. Only 19% of adults are smokers, and this is falling quickly. i wouldn't expect a building designer to think about them too much.

i am surprised that they don't have doors that open to railings at least since there are no balconies.

Seems to also apply somewhat of a suburban mentality with regards to outdoor space. Balconies are nice don't get me wrong, but one of the advantages of city living is that you are surrounded by such space. It's difficult to convey that point sometimes. I often talk to people who are aghast at the idea of living somewhere like New York City and will usually cite primarily things like tiny apartments and not having a yard. But, if you live in a place where you have easy to access to beautiful park spaces and such an incredible wealth of great public spaces, bars, restaurants, etc., those sorts of amenities become less important.
