I'm 16 weeks and haven't puked yet but I did feel kind of icky in my first trimesterI went to Earth Fare and bought some ginger hard candies. Sucking on them made me feel better. They also have real ginger ale there. I didnt like it as much as the hard candies. the real ginger ale was way too spicy for me
5/31/2012 3:49:48 PM
harris teeter also carries real ginger ale (which i love) & crystallized ginger (in the asian food section). ginger never really helped me out though. i puked only a couple of times but spent about 18 weeks with insane nausea, while taking zofran 3x daily. there were LOTS of times i wished i could puke. zofran was the only thing that touched the nausea. i couldn't imagine what i would have done without it.[Edited on May 31, 2012 at 3:54 PM. Whelp...went for the weekly appt today and I was told by a different doctor that "man you have a big one in there". I currently feel like I am going to puke because SOMEONE is occuping my stomach area. I horrible morning sickness this time and wish you luck!20 more days to go.....[Edited on May 31, 2012 at 9:55 PM. Reason : well unless I go into labor, but she hasn't dropped and I am not dilated.]

The doctor told me when I went in for my first appointment that the key to dealing with nausea or morning sickness is to eat smaller meals throughout the day. Even if you feel sick, continue to eat a little something every couple of hours.A friend of mine swore by the Seabands bracelet when pregnant. She'd put it on when she felt nauesous and her cheeks would go from pale to rosy w/in like 2 minutes. They are supposed to be more for motion sickness w/ boats and airplanes but it works with morning sickness too[Edited on June 1, 2012 at 7:51 AM. Reason : f]

neither of those worked for me, especially the seabands. that was a joke. everything is worth trying when you're that miserable though.
6/1/2012 9:08:39 AM
Well I guess I've started showing because one of my coworkers asked me today. She's lucky I'm not just getting fat
6/1/2012 11:16:48 AM
^ yay! Congrats congrats congrats!
6/1/2012 11:25:00 AM
Thanks Due date is December 13th. I've got two more weeks before we cross when I miscarried last time so I'm feeling pretty nervous but so far the doctor thinks everything is going along smoothly.
6/1/2012 11:39:51 AM
Maybe you'll get a day early, and it'll be 12/12/12!! I was really hoping for that as a due date (not pregnant yet daggonit), because it's an awesome date, my Mr. Beethoven's birthday.
6/1/2012 2:21:21 PM
Haha I hadn't even thought of that! Though knowing my luck I'll be late and deliver on Christmas.
6/1/2012 6:20:36 PM
YAY!!! I am so happy for you, wolfpackgrrr!!!! w00t!!!!!111

we had our first baby shower today. it was really nice. my brother & SIL bought us the stroller we wanted (bumbleride indie), and we got lots of bottles & other things we had on the registry. one of chris's aunt/uncle bought us this jogging stroller + carseat travel set thing (not on the registry). they weren't in attendance & there's no receipt, but we think it came from babies r us, & we're going to try to return it tomorrow i think. we got lots of awesome things, but no cloth diapers. i'm kinda disappointed but we'll get them one way or another. we've spent the last hour playing with & assembling things. it's kinda like christmas, except you can't really use any of the stuff just yet [Edited on June 2, 2012 at 11:44 PM. 6/2/2012 11:42:53 PM
Fun Hopefully you can return the stroller and get a few cloth diapers with the return money
6/3/2012 8:45:00 AM
Fucking ass...The babies r us on capital apparently is closed, despite what the website says. Now we have to go all the way to Cary or Durham to return this thing. We're going to end up spending $40 in gas just to take this thing back
6/3/2012 4:39:23 PM
i went there the night our little one and mom came home from the hospital to buy a breast pump... no bueno... I had to haul ass over to cary before closing time
6/3/2012 5:49:30 PM
Toys R Us will open at Triangle Towne Center soon....they didn't move anything so it was all clearanced out like 3 weeks ago at 75-90% off.Do you have a registry at Toys R Us? If you don't, they will not let you take it back without the receipt. The one in Durham is bigger. They have terrible customer service. When I was pregnant, I literally cried twice. I tend not to shop there period.See if Buy Buy Baby sells it and return it there. There is one in Cary near Park Place. I have had WAY better experiences with returning there over Toys R Us.On a side note, the baby dropped today. It is kind of funny. My stomach is MUCH smaller than it was yesterday.
6/3/2012 6:19:41 PM
We had success at babies r us in Cary. The one at triangle town center won't be open til october. We don't have a registry there, but the manager took my info off my license & gave us store credit. We walked around & tried to find something to buy but couldn't. I'll just order some bumgenius diapers off the website.
6/3/2012 6:29:30 PM
The one on capital closed? Well shit. I don't mind going to crossroads but when I'm there I always think "capital has so much more selection" dangI'm a buy buy baby fan now that I've been though. Terrible name, but good stuff.[Edited on June 3, 2012 at 9:38 PM. Reason : ]
6/3/2012 9:38:07 PM
yeah, the one at crossroads is about half the size of a normal one (b/c it's half toys r us too). it sucks. i really just don't like babies r us in general actually. i love buy buy baby. turns out the stroller had a tiny little sticker on top that came from babies r us. looking at the buy buy baby website now, they don't sell the same one. eh, oh well, it's over. we have store credit, which i'm not thrilled with, but at least we got the full value back.

Ok women, I can't fucking make this crap up...Supposedly, the fetal cells from the womb can just like up and wander around the mother's bodies when they feel like it. Then they'll go to sites with damaged tissue where they can change into whatever cells they need. And they'll also go to her brain, and you know, change... her brain. In other words, the fetus will send out stem cells to the mother that gives her mutant powers. You know, as a thank you.WHATTHEFUCKSCIENCE
6/3/2012 11:05:53 PM
It'd be nice if some of those stem cells would find their way to my sciatica and fix it

what do you bring an august baby home from the hospital in? is a short sleeve onesie enough or should i pick something w/ long sleeves & pants? i'm assuming socks will be a good idea too. we won't know the sex of the baby ahead of time so no dresses or whatever. do i get NB sized or 0-3 months?
6/4/2012 3:53:40 PM
My sister didn't find out the sex of their baby until delivery. What they did was pick two outfits that they liked, one boy and one girl, and then just returned the one that did not get used. My un-experienced opinion is that you would want some sort of pants if you do a short sleeved onesie, just so baby doesn't end up chafing on the car seat. And they did newborn sizing, because it might be an outfit they only wear once if you keep it separate for sentimental reasons.[Edited on June 4, 2012 at 4:15 PM. Reason : ]

I brought my son home in a night gown and socks. They have them for both genders.
6/4/2012 4:41:49 PM
Ryan, a July baby, wore home a gender neutral onesie--okay I got it from the boys section, but I felt it was gender neutral. It said "hi I'm new here" on it--socks and a tye dye cap. It he had been a girl, I had a pink flower clip to clip on to the hat. I gave the clip to my friend with a little girl following the birth. He also lived in "chef shirts" (long and short sleeve gerber snap shirts, not a onesie), diapers and socks, a hat if indoors, a swaddle and that's it for the first two-three weeks. It was easier to change 18 diapers a day without dealing with a onesie snap.

You'll be fine with 0-3. Can't go wrong with either. Your husband will surely go cool the car down before you get in (nurses will want to see you put the baby in carseat at discharge to make sure you have it. So he'll pull up the car.) and it will be an ice box. If s/he wore the short sleeve you'll surely have ganked as many hospital blankets as you could so you'll be set there too [Edited on June 4, 2012 at 5:56 PM. Reason : ]

Well, they officially said I will not be making it until the 20th......I called today seeing spots and being dizzy....Blood pressure was high 150/100. Laying on my left side brought it down a bit. Since I had HELLP last time, they did my liver and kidney function (had I come in with any other symptom, I would have had a baby today). Bedrest until I get results...noon tomorrow. If it is good, c-section beginning of next week. If I have any issues, I might be having a baby tomorrow

We had to go out to buy newborn clothes for Amelia because she was under 6 lbs when she came home. The 0-3 clothes swallowed her, but that's unusual for most babies. As long as your little one isn't measuring small for gestational age, you shouldn't even bother buying newborn clothes. If you receive a few things as a gift, I wouldn't bother returning them, but there's no sense in buying them for most babies. We brought her home in long sleeved footed pjs even though it was June because she was so small and we had a two hour ride in an air conditioned car ahead of us, but I believe that she spent the rest of her time in just a short sleeved onesie.[Edited on June 4, 2012 at 8:56 PM. ^^wow, good luck! i hope everything goes smoothly.i actually went to the ER today bc of some facial swelling & numbness on my left side. it was worse on sunday but i had also had some field of vision blurriness (right side) & dizziness, so i thought it was all migraine connected. i checked my bp sunday night & this morning & it was normal (126/76, then 115/69). i called the OB later this morning just in case, they said go the ER NOW, so i did. they did a urine test, ekg, & series of blood pressure readings (laying, sitting, standing). everything was normal. they called my myasthenia gravis doc at UNC, who told them the same thing i did, that it wasn't MG. they gave me 1L of IV fluids, shrugged, & sent me home. the left side of my face still feels heavy/numb, but i'm not having a stroke or bell's palsy so i guess i'll be okay...^good to know! baby has been measuring a little large/ahead for the date we know for sure that it was conceived. we will have a 1.5 hr drive back from unc, as long as that's where i'm still delivering, so that's something i need to consider too. I live in Greenville, but delivered in Raleigh. If you're going to be driving home in an air conditioned car, you might want to consider a little more than just a onesie or at least bring a light weight blanket. I've always heard that newborns need one more layer of clothes than you would to feel comfortable and that has held true with both of mine.I'm sorry that you had to go through all of that crap at the ER. It sucks to feel off and not really know why. Pregnancy fluid retention can cause numbness in your hands, but it wouldn't explain your face and such. :-/

^^you don't need to have complications either! In terms of clothing for my son (September baby)...he was born at 7 pounds and lost a pound in the hospital. My son came one in a long sleeve oonsize, pants, socks, and hat size newborn and it looked like we put clothes on that were 5 sizes to big. We had a light blanket on him. I found some premie clothes at thrift store for .50/piece and he wore those for 2 weeks and then newborn for 4. After that he was in 3-6 months. Gerber fits much smaller than any other brand so if you have some 0-3 month gerber that would be like newborn of anything else. Honestly you will here this a billion times, but they grow incredibly fast. My son was in 24 months/2T by his first birthday. Just think of how many sizes that is...preemie, newborn, 0-3,3,3-6,6,6-9,9,12, & 18 months. He didn't wear SO MUCH of his clothing. Now he is in 3T and is 20 months old. It looks like he will finally stay in this size for awhile. For this one, I just picked up a few the free baby clothes of craigslist and swapped my sons clothes for girl's clothes. I have every season in every size from preemie to 2t. I tossed anything that was used stained or soiled. Sold all the UNC and Duke stuff.I have become a huge fan of bartering/trading. It is definately keeping the kids costs down.[Edited on June 4, 2012 at 10:08 PM. Reason : ]

^^i had planned on having blankets also. i found a muslin kimono style short sleeve onesie with pants online that i like a lot. we already have a few little toboggans. when i told my mom i found a onesie & pants that the baby could wear home from the hospital, she said "i thought you weren't going to have a special going home outfit!!" well mom the child has to wear SOMETHING home & all the clothes we have right now (just a few handmedowns) are off-season...oh and yeah the facial swelling/numbness thing was localized to a very specific area on the left side of my face, like a diamond shaped spot b/w my eye, mouth, & nose. very odd. the heavy-numb feeling has gone away some more but that same spot is very tender to the touch.[Edited on June 4, 2012 at 10:13 PM. Ok, forkgirl's baby is on one end of the spectrum. My baby is on the other. She's gained all of 11 pounds in her 11 months in this world. She's worn every bit of her clothes multiple times. At 11 months, she can still wear some 6-9 month clothes and we're just now putting her in some 12 month clothes. My Amelia is like in the 50th percentile for weight and <5th percentile for length. So yeah, every baby is different. But yes, Gerber is absolutely on the smaller size.
6/4/2012 10:20:36 PM
^ My son is like that. He's a little dude. He's in the 15 - 25% percentile for weight and the 50-75% for lengh. It's HARD to find shorts/pants that fit in the waist and are the right length. 6m is getting too short and 9m is too big in waist and have to be rolled over.I bought a newborn and 0-3 month outfit to the hospital. His "official" going home outfit was newborn, but I had a 0-3 onesie and pants with me. He ended up needing the newborn since he was only 6lbs 14oz when he left. I actually bought more newborn onesies and sleepers, which in hindsight I wish I hadn't done. I'm all for getting clothes from consignment sales. I got summer wardrobe (over 30 pieces) for $80 back in February. I'm going to the consignment sale in Apex on June 22 and hoping to get some fall/winter stuff. I'm also looking for an activity table now that he's pulling up that he'll like. But I don't want to spend $40 or more so hoping to find that at consignment sale too.
6/4/2012 11:33:46 PM
Dammit...now I can't sleep because all I keep thinking is about my stupid blood test. On the other side, I should be sleeping in case I have a baby tomorrow.^soon the clothes will have adjustable waists. My son was just too fat and I had to bump him because his diaper didn't fit and then I had to roll up his pants. At least it is short weather....what consignment sale are you going to? I have started to hang all my son's stuff from last year. I was thinking of doing the one at the fair grounds in July, but that might just be too big.[Edited on June 5, 2012 at 1:00 AM. Reason : ]

1st ultrasound today. hella nervous. They attempted to do the heart beat doppler? yesterday, but they said the position was hard that they couldnt get a good read on the heart beat...woman is freaking out because her last two pregnancies were miscarriages. 14 weeks and 24 weeks.I am freaking out now because she is freaking out. I have no idea what I am suppose to be doing right now. I can't just be like "dont worry babe, its going to be okay" with her history and stuff....ugh...
6/5/2012 7:43:38 AM
how far along is she? it can be hard to hear a heart beat before 8 weeks.
6/5/2012 7:50:42 AM
They are guessing she is around 11 weeks. They are doing the ultrasound to find out exactly how far she is.
6/5/2012 7:58:06 AM
Yeah there's really nothing you can do to comfort her from personal experience. I go in next Monday for my first 2nd trimester appointment and I'm pretty much completely stressed out that we'll go and they'll find I've miscarried again. Not that I have any rational reason to feel this way (no symptoms pointing towards it) but I can't help how my brain works.
6/5/2012 8:59:46 AM
Everything you can say is pretty trite and not going to be much comfort. I just remind myself that worrying doesn't change tomorrow's outcome, but it does take away today's peace. I still worry, but I try to keep that in mind.

Forkgirl - I'm going to http://frogpocketkids.com/event-schedule/. I've never been to this one so I don't know how good it will be, but I'm hoping I can at least get clothes. The one at the fairgrounds was too large for me. I also found a lot of broken toys or things that were missing pieces and the prices were still high. I love the Kids Everywhere ones but the next is in September.
6/5/2012 10:01:06 AM
^ I'm going to that, too! I just got the reminder postcard in my mailbox the other day.
6/5/2012 10:23:45 AM
4 weeks from today and I'll find out the sex of my baby!!!
6/5/2012 12:30:06 PM
I don't know if I want to find out the sex or not. Masa's wife said we should wait so people can place bets the day I go into labor
6/5/2012 12:38:17 PM
I'm the kind of person that can't wait to open Christmas presents and I'm all like "PLEASE LET ME OPEN ONE NOW, I'LL BE SO NICE TO YOU THE REST OF THE DAY" My husband wants to have the doctor write it on a slip of paper and put it in an envelope and we'd take it to a bakery and have them bake a cake with either blue or pink food coloing cake batter. Since I'm going for the appointment on 7/3, I can take the cake to my parent's house for their annual 4th of July cookout.

^^ at our baby shower, guests filled out a card with advice and birth guesses. It was a hell of a lot of fun to read what everyone had put and then when he was born see who was right/got closest. My aunt and uncle got the "prize" It's a fantastic keepsake for him too.
