http://blogs.newsobserver.com/canes/whites-status-still-up-in-the-airWhite's status still up in the airSubmitted by chipalexander on 02/17/2011 - 12:45Bookmark and ShareTags: Canes Now | Ian WhiteAll Ian White can do for now is keep doing what he's doing.Show up, practice, work hard, prepare to play. But whether the defenseman will be playing for the Canes or another team is still to be determined.White was one of nine players on the ice today at the RecZone for an optional workout. General manager Jim Rutherford said Wednesday that the Canes were considering a trade offer for White, but White and Rutherford apparently have not discussed the situation and White remains in the dark. For White, it's an awkward situation. He practiced today not knowing if he will be in the lineup tomorrow against the Philadelphia Flyers or on a plane headed somewhere else."Nothing has changed," Canes coach Paul Maurice said. "It's the same as yesterday."White did not want to comment today on a possible trade but like most players in his situation indicated it's all part of the business. If traded, he'll again have to uproot and move his family. He did it in November, when the Calgary Flames traded him to the Canes, and it may happen again in the next day or so.White was with the Canes in New Jersey but did not go to the morning skate at the Prudential Center, fueling speculation he was about to be traded. He was not on the team bus to the game Wednesday night but was at the game.Maurice said today that White was handling things "as well as you can. He's on the ice working hard today and getting ready for tomorrow."Center Ryan Carter was at practice today but Maurice said he was not confident Carter was ready to rejoin the lineup for the Flyers game. Jerome Samson, who was recalled from the Charlotte Checkers (AHL), has been used on the fourth line.Read more: http://blogs.newsobserver.com/canes/whites-status-still-up-in-the-air#ixzz1EEwzVuCs

I wonder what these future considerations are..hopefully nothing crazy. When are we trading White? No point in scratching him for two games in a row.
2/18/2011 3:14:47 PM
Who the hell is that!?!1[Edited on February 18, 2011 at 3:19 PM. Reason : and why do they refer to him as a blueliner? He's only played 17 games and has 1 g and 4 asses]
2/18/2011 3:18:13 PM
Dude, hes 23. Relax.
2/18/2011 3:21:39 PM
I'm guessing this trade is setting us up for an Ian White trade

@TSNBobMcKenzie SJ trades Derek Joslin to CAR in separate transaction from White.

2/18/2011 3:26:23 PM
not when all the good available players are going everywhere but here
2/18/2011 3:28:59 PM
Per McKenzie : Ian White has been told he is now a San Jose Shark.
2/18/2011 3:39:34 PM
we better be getting someone else besides Joslin or this is turning out to be a dumbfuck trade
2/18/2011 3:42:10 PM
^^^I don't think we'll be in any blockbuster trades. JR said he likes the team and to make any big trades we'll have to trade some of our younger guys who he wants to develop and keep. We obviously have some needs to fill, but I don't expect us to trade for any big names (Ryan Kesler lololo)[Edited on February 18, 2011 at 3:44 PM. Reason : ...][Edited on February 18, 2011 at 3:44 PM. Reason : I do really like Ian White and I hope we get more for him]
2/18/2011 3:43:49 PM
So Joslin is a bad ass.... good! The scare factor is a nice thing to have on your side.
2/18/2011 3:45:42 PM
so basically Rutherford is giving up on the playoff spot thenthats what that basically means
2/18/2011 3:45:55 PM
no... not at all.
2/18/2011 3:49:59 PM
....JR isn't done
2/18/2011 3:50:31 PM
he better not beWE NEED A REAL "LONG TERM" BLUE LINE DEFENSEMAN!
2/18/2011 3:55:15 PM
when I have to be the one to say "you're being too negative"... that's a problem.
2/18/2011 3:56:04 PM
Seriously...just wait.Use some common sense, Ian White is a solid, experienced Dman making 3 mil.Joslin is making .5 mil, and has played <40 nhl gamesThis trade is not done
2/18/2011 4:00:09 PM
Probably retarded to say... but for some reason I am thinking Couture is involved with this?Yes, that's definitely retarded.[Edited on February 18, 2011 at 4:04 PM. Reason : Retarded retarded]
2/18/2011 4:03:15 PM
sure that could be the deal, we wanted Joslin last year. maybe a conditional pick in there too, but there are a couple more deals coming.[Edited on February 18, 2011 at 4:06 PM. Reason : yeah that is pretty retarded. young goal scorers like that would take a lot to get]
2/18/2011 4:05:10 PM
2/18/2011 4:05:20 PM
I think what happened there was I was reading the NHL thread and his name was mentioned... then this happened right after.... then I got busy at work..That has to be it.On that same note, smart by the Sharks... but sort of a rip off IMO... he is a rookie. I don't think he should be considered for ROY over Skinner. Skinner 18 and legit first season.. Couture 21 and technically in his 2nd year[Edited on February 18, 2011 at 4:13 PM. Reason : Juicy]
2/18/2011 4:10:40 PM
Per McKenzie : SJ 2nd rd pick in 2012 in exhange for Ian White. CAR now has budget space to add another piece.I think thats the key. Obviously the Canes arent up against the cap, but they were up against what they like to spend, so moving White nets Joslin and a second and clears the cap room necessary.
2/18/2011 4:21:15 PM
So who are the players that could go?I'll list who I think they are shopping:Brett SutterZach BoychuckLarose/SamsonovBased on recent moves
2/18/2011 4:24:00 PM
I just hope that we ultimately net a better D-man out of this. We weren't all that strong on the defensive end before, and it's not like we're doing any better now.
2/18/2011 4:28:17 PM
It appears that we got Joslin for future considerations and the 2nd rounder for White.Trade is probably done, no?
2/18/2011 4:35:32 PM
what a waste[Edited on February 18, 2011 at 4:37 PM. Reason : .]
2/18/2011 4:36:06 PM
Not necessarily.. just that trade is done.I still think Boychuck is gone. Which I don't like. Guy gives 110% every night.

sweet wolfpack mention Rod, and how about the wuffie fingers from his wife?
2/18/2011 7:29:52 PM
are they going to let them wear those jerseys?the full team wearing the retired number has happened before, but they've always switched to regular jerseys with a small honored number after the warmupedit: i see they split the warmup since the ceremony was going to run so long ]
2/18/2011 7:39:53 PM
Ian White Trade:Dude was somewhere between a shut-down and an offensive d-man. We got a 2nd round pick and an RFA with a nasty side. We weren't going to resign him, especially not for that money. We also have Carson that can do just about the same thing as White but at $2.5 less.As far as being done, I sincerely doubt it. With the word around the waterhole being that Carolina had the best offer on the table for Fisher last week (stupid Carrie Underwood living in Nashville), then one can assume we're doing something to find a top-six winger. Do I think we'll land it? Probably not.Oh and Paul Maurice should be fired.
2/18/2011 7:39:55 PM
any reason why you think Maurice should be fired?
