Not anymore. Status 3 has been lifted. University is fully open. I live close to a bus stop so if anything this is just extremely inconvenient, but I'll be going to class.e: snype[Edited on January 30, 2014 at 10:36 AM. Reason : .]

Well I managed to make it up the hill after 3 tries. Sliding backwards = no fun. Definitely found the downside to working in Durham, they have like 1/2 the snow Raleigh does.
1/30/2014 10:38:09 AM
The guy that sleeps on my downstairs couch took my Yukon to go do some work, so I have to get the snow off my Tahoe.... FWP.
1/30/2014 10:59:50 AM
Woohoo 6 inches over night and 30 inches in the mountains!!
1/30/2014 11:12:00 AM
So...how about next week?
1/30/2014 11:21:12 AM
next week has the possibility to be historic[Edited on January 30, 2014 at 11:48 AM. Reason : in terms of a monster ice storm :/]
1/30/2014 11:27:39 AM
rain/snow possible Friday/Saturday of next week
1/30/2014 12:16:29 PM
1/30/2014 12:40:55 PM
1/30/2014 12:42:58 PM
So from what I understand next week looks like a possible weekend event right?
1/30/2014 4:06:04 PM
Joco Schools closed tomorrow.
1/30/2014 4:36:36 PM
1/30/2014 4:50:43 PM
1/31/2014 8:13:22 AM
This shit next week needs to move a day or so earlier or a day or so later if it's going to be of any use to me!
1/31/2014 8:14:49 AM
^^ i thought they got more snow/ice than raleigh did...and even my road still has shaded patches of solid icesure, i was able to drive over them yesterday and this morning without any difficulty, but there's a lot more rural area in joco (i assume) and buses might have difficulty picking up some studentsi don't actually know if that's the case, but i grew up in a rural area and our roads took forever to get clear after snow/ice
1/31/2014 8:17:40 AM
Ah, so Wake, Johnston, Orange, Durham & Cumberland county schools are still closed today? No wonder the NC public school system isn't known for their educational chops.
1/31/2014 8:18:25 AM
Seriously no one wants a fucking snow storm on the weekend!
1/31/2014 8:18:51 AM
Yeah, there are still icy patches on the neighborhood streets out in the rural areas in Wake Co. It's like a string of old Xmas lights; if one kid can't make it to school safely, none of them can.
1/31/2014 8:22:59 AM
^this. there are several roads that haven't seen salt or a plow, or enough traffic to help melt the snow.
1/31/2014 8:28:36 AM
hell, i live downtown and my street hasn't been touched. it was cold enough that there was plenty of traction on the ice if you are not driving like an idiot, but I can understand not wanting to put a bus down the road.
1/31/2014 8:36:18 AM
i drove from garner to fuquay for work...i didn't have too much trouble, but i slipped in some spots....however, i pass no less than 4 schools on the way to work and the road one of those schools is on hasn't even seen a plow...i wouldn't want to put my kid on a bus going on that road and it's just not feasible for every parent in the county to drive their kid to school....
1/31/2014 8:37:03 AM
If the schools in Wake Co are outside of Raleigh, then who is responsible for clearing the roads? NCDOT or each municipality? Either way you would expect there to be enough capacity for those roads to be salted at some point, which would have been enough for them to clear yesterday.
1/31/2014 8:42:24 AM
each municipality
1/31/2014 8:51:36 AM
^^ and ^ no.Read WRAL if you don't believe me. They have a nice article right now on the fight between DOT, Cary, and Raleigh, over getting Tryon Rd. DOT is ultimately responsible (for state owned roads, mostly anything not in a subdivision). Problem is DOT takes forever to get anything done. Municipalities can at their own cost clear their own roads, but they also get to set their own priorities. Cary does all of theirs. Raleigh follows a semi-DOT structure but doesnt do all. Apex does some of theirs, but not all.
1/31/2014 9:03:10 AM
Yeah I read that article about Tryon Road. Personally I was a bit surprised on Thursday morning when I saw that only 1 lane each way (in the 4 lane section past Lake Wheeler) was cleared!
1/31/2014 9:04:40 AM
Live in Cumberland and work in Sampson. Roads seemed mostly fine this morning but my commute is a straight shot down a main highway. A few secondary roads looked a bit patchy but I assume they would clear up by 10 or 11
1/31/2014 9:05:37 AM
the DOT is only required to clear state maintained roads. anything else is as-available. there are state maintained roads in each municipality, but other roads are maintained by the municipalities.(non-state maintained roads are a lot more than just subdivisions, Raleigh has over a thousand miles of streets it maintains)[Edited on January 31, 2014 at 9:11 AM. Makes it worse when your boss lives in Cary and all his employees live in NE raleigh. Just because your roads are clear doesnt mean I dont have multiple ice hills to navigate to come in!
1/31/2014 9:24:37 AM
i came in today thinking most people would be here...not truemy boss isn't even in and, apparently, has no intention of coming in today
1/31/2014 9:29:00 AM
When do we wash our cars to get the salt off?
1/31/2014 4:38:52 PM
every fucking was at work today. fml.
1/31/2014 7:17:56 PM
I washed mine already, I know there is still salt out there but I could not see out the fucking windows.
2/1/2014 10:44:11 PM
I was going to get mine washed off at Sheetz this morning but there was seriously a line of about 15-20 cars
2/1/2014 10:47:04 PM
^^I had a salt on windshield issue going in to work on Thursday morning. Salt spray coming off the road and, evidently, my windshield washer fluid is not the kind that doesn't freeze. So I tried to use the washers, got nothing, and made the salt film worse. Could barely see for the last few miles of my trip.[Edited on February 1, 2014 at 10:48 PM. Reason : orange]

NC is going to get nailed next week on the 12th
2/6/2014 6:02:00 PM
Do we know many inches NC is going to get nailed with?(I've been trying to make a penis joke for 9 days. It's still not funny. )[Edited on February 6, 2014 at 6:29 PM. Reason : I'll get there.]
2/6/2014 6:25:38 PM
the low is 32, so you'll probably end up getting your hopes up, just to end up with some unfulfilling drizzle
2/6/2014 6:44:47 PM
It's also a week out so...I'm just gonna wait a few days before gettin my hopes up
2/6/2014 6:54:44 PM
2/6/2014 7:29:32 PM
snowing at my house in Youngsville right now
2/6/2014 10:23:54 PM
Is it fulfilling?
2/6/2014 10:26:50 PM
no
2/6/2014 10:37:27 PM
AHAHAThe sad face cracks me up.
2/6/2014 10:49:24 PM
it was snowing off new hope rd earlier. didn't stick though
2/6/2014 11:34:37 PM
Snowing in the new bern area. Looks like we have about an inch on the ground so far.
2/6/2014 11:41:12 PM
Still expecting very cold rain personally or some snow followed by rain which is pretty much the same thing.
2/7/2014 12:39:42 PM
I thought Fareako was joking when he mentioned snow this morning, but our yard was solid white when I looked outside. It's already all melted though.
