when has the GOP been credible in recent history? it's filled with bigots and religious zealots
8/1/2012 3:19:29 PM
the gop has had one remotely decent president in the last 50 years^ I'm with this guy - when the hell have they been credible
8/1/2012 3:53:41 PM
^^And more often than not they're bigoted, religious zealots and not one or the other. The modern republican party is only credible if you consider being a thorn in the side of inevitable progress to be a sign of credibility.

In an effort to reduce water use in drought-stricken portions of the country, the USDA has suggested we reduce meat consumption. Producing a pound of meat can use up to 18,000 gallons of water.+100 credibility points to Republicans for correctly identifying this as a plot by Obama's fascist USDA regime to foist a socialist, sectarian vegetarian diet upon the American people. To combat this insidious plot by limousine liberals, Republicans have promised to "eat more meat [...] to compensate" and declare "double rib-eye Mondays". Senator John Conryn--a true Texan, Christian, and American--has selflessly volunteered to sacrifice his body ensuring none of God's great cattle go uneaten.http://www.salon.com/2012/08/03/meatless_monday_wheres_the_beef/]

Hill Country is delicious

Hill Country is terrible. A barbeque restaurant that doesn't have barbeque on the menu.[Edited on August 6, 2012 at 11:48 AM. Reason : sp]
8/6/2012 11:47:29 AM
Is it different in DC than NY? The one in NY has plenty of bbq...probably the best brisket I've had outside of TX
8/6/2012 12:50:57 PM
Yes they have barbequed brisket but no barbeque on the menu.=/=The only pork on the menu is spare ribs Sorry I get really offended when people call something that is barbequed, barbeque. Barbeque is a type of food not a style of cooking. Damn my NC roots.
8/7/2012 1:11:05 PM
Barbecue doesn't mean pork. It's a cooking method, the result of said method, the devices used in said method, or the gathering around said method. Back to the GOP's credibility.
8/7/2012 1:16:02 PM
this thread was temporarily more interesting...
8/7/2012 1:38:49 PM
Framed on the wall in Hill Country is a document signed by Rick Perry with the proclamation that they have the "best barbeque outside of Texas"There are two issues of GOP credibility here:1) His use of the word barbeque. According to dictionary.com he is correct, as the brisket, sausage, etc that they serve falls into the below definition:
8/7/2012 2:22:39 PM
Well, considering the best barbeque in the country isn't in Texas to begin with (it's in Kansas City) I don't know where he gets off making that judgment.

E. NC vinegar bbq for life.

10,000 dead found on Virginia's voter rollsPosted: Aug 09, 2012 11:58 AM EDT Updated: Aug 09, 2012 3:03 PM EDTBy Ray Daudani - bio | emailRICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -Around 10,000 deceased people were recently found on Virginia's voter rolls by the State Board of Elections.Local registrars are now working to cancel those voters from the list of registered voters, according to the SBE. There's no indication of any voter fraud, but the SBE also said it can't rule the possibility out.The deceased names were identified by the SBE by cross-referencing 15 million records in the National Technical Information Services master death file with the current list of registered voters in Virginia.45 million more records are still being analyzed to see how many other deceased individuals may still be on the voter rolls."Virginia is committed to ensuring only eligible voters are registered to vote. The State Board of Elections' efforts in utilizing the death master file has yielded significant results with the identification of over 10,000 deceased individuals contained in the voter rolls," said Secretary of the State Board of Elections Don Palmer. "Virginia will continue to work to ensure those deceased or ineligible to vote are removed timely from the voter rolls."Most of the names discovered pre-date 2009, when the SBE began searching voter rolls against monthly updates from NTIS. Prior to 2009, there wasn't as systematic a process in place to remove names of the deceased. In many case, notification from family was required. As a result, people who had died as far back as the 1930s were discovered in this search, according to the SBE.http://www.nbc12.com/story/19237542/10000-dead-found-on-virginias-voter-rollsnice[Edited on August 13, 2012 at 4:41 AM. voter registrations should only matter so far as preventing people from voting 2x.Anyone who lives in the US realistically should have a say in the political process.
8/13/2012 6:20:00 AM
The moment they started trying to unseat legally and lawfully elected Ron Paul supporters as delegates to their national convention, they lost their credibility. As soon as this move is over, I'm calling my board of elections and telling them to remove me as a Republican.
8/13/2012 9:13:42 AM
I agree, all legal citizens over the age of majority should be allowed to vote, yet we continue to do things like permanently disenfranchise ex-felons.Also, I'm still in favor or proof of identity in order to vote.
8/13/2012 9:24:26 AM
How many cases of voter fraud have been found over the last, I don't know, let's say 20 years?
8/13/2012 9:51:35 AM
Voter fraud cases are never claimed by the winners of elections. The losers never see justice because the winners are always in power.Remember the New Black Panther Party in 2008?You think they were trying to encourage Republicans to vote? You remember what happened after Eric Holder was appointed as AG?
8/14/2012 11:51:32 AM
8/14/2012 12:02:04 PM
The Democratic Party and the media did their own investigations of voter fraud, and I'm sure the Republicans wouldn't have listened, had anything substantial been proven, but the point is the winners were the ones in charge, and didn't care about whatever valid/invalid claims of voter fraud were claimed.
8/14/2012 12:11:52 PM
So basically the whole party decided to just give up and not publish any of their voter fraud findings at all just because they didn't thing their friends in the republican party would have listened? You actually believe this?If this were true, we would never here a dissenting opinion on anythingAnd all these groups out there doing research on voter fraud, they are I guess altering their facts and just saying that they aren't finding anything because, "Hey...it won't matter any way...the other people won...so let's just say there isn't voter fraud"[Edited on August 14, 2012 at 12:19 PM. I'm not saying anything about reporting voter fraud...I'm saying anything legal to challenge or prosecute voter fraud. Here're some reports:local Republican - http://bostonglobe.com/metro/massachusetts/2012/08/13/hampden-district-attorney-investigating-alleged-voter-fraud-east-longmeadow/03AXyF5j1xA0r6WS3BRe1L/story.htmlnational Democratic - http://www.forbes.com/sites/billfrezza/2012/08/08/sen-al-franken-voter-fraud-revelations-call-for-ways-to-reduce-it/national Republican - http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390443404004577579170132171552.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

Since we're clarifying positions my response is in direct response to someone supporting proof of ID to vote. The first article seems to be just allegations, this is not proof of anything. The third is about votes getting padded AFTER the election, so any ID laws would not help with this. The second article would be the best case here for anything as the end result was a bunch of felons voted that should not have been allowed to. I suppose if the proposal of the ID law being supported in this thread stops this, then yes, that is something that might need to be fixed.
8/14/2012 12:47:26 PM
If by "fixed" you mean "let felons vote anyway" then I agree.
8/14/2012 12:53:29 PM
I didn't mean to sound like I am against them voting, but it's at least a justifiable position for someone on that side to take. But if that's the only concern, then maybe just say that's all you are trying to stop and figure out a better way

Republican Senate Nominee: Victims Of ‘Legitimate Rape’ Don’t Get PregnantRep. Todd Akin, the Republican nominee for Senate in Missouri who is running against Sen. Claire McCaskill, justified his opposition to abortion rights even in case of rape with a claim that victims of “legitimate rape” have unnamed biological defenses that prevent pregnancy.“First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV in an interview posted Sunday. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”Akin said that even in the worst-case scenario — when the supposed natural protections against unwanted pregnancy fail — abortion should still not be a legal option for the rape victim.“Let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work, or something,” Akin said. “I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child.”Video, clipped by the Democratic tracking outfit American Bridge (the full interview is below):http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/08/todd-akin-legitimate-rape.php?m=1
