did you not read his post? they are giving him back his money, that was not at all what you said to do to resolve his problem of already purchasing home.he had already purchased home (as made clear by the quote that you posted of his)you suggested that he buy prothat would be two purchaseshe resolved it by only paying for one[Edited on November 4, 2009 at 7:07 PM. his original issue was how to purchase the pro edition, which is the issue I was addressing. i was not trying to address (because I was not aware of) his mistake in purchasing home.
11/4/2009 7:06:33 PM
Holy shit, someone who UNDERSTANDS. I sincerely applaud and appreciate your post. WDPrince is fucking lost, I know he thinks he is helping, but he doesnt get it... so, i still appreciate his trying.
11/4/2009 7:25:44 PM
i'm lost trying to figure out how they got so lost
11/4/2009 7:27:54 PM
well, all others who tried to help didn't think you'd already purchased...the only one who "understands you" and thought you had already purchased, came in afterwards to troll... so yeh, about 3-4 people didn't gather that you had already purchased. I stand corrected, blowjobs did post...SAYING THE SAME FUCKING THING I SAID (how to get pro). besides, you asked
11/4/2009 7:30:12 PM
In all seriousness, if I download and install pro as an upgrade I should keep all files and settings that I have on my 7 Home edition now right? WD, seriously, thanks for trying to help man - I think just a sentence or two made a world of difference. Pool picked up on it.^ going back over many posts in the past 4 pages I mentioned I have home, including the previous page. Regardless, thanks for trying to help man. Wish I had been more specific.[Edited on November 4, 2009 at 7:36 PM. Reason : fr]

There's an option in the System panel of the Control Panel that says "Change Activation Key" (or something to that effect -- not on my Windows 7 computer now). Change it to your Professional serial and I believe it'll download the missing components. Not 100% sure, but this is what I remember hearing.
11/4/2009 7:42:49 PM
^ cool, good call, it is there. Did not realize I could do it that way. Thanks man.:edit:Doesn't sound like this is something I can do:
11/4/2009 8:05:00 PM
^That's going down SKU. I thought you could go up SKU though.
11/4/2009 8:31:15 PM
i just got it installed and it seems a lot faster so far. Of course I haven't gotten all my drivers and programs installed yet, but so far so good
11/4/2009 10:38:08 PM
Noen, yeah, I read that... but that is not clear by the bold statement. Makes me hesitate.
11/5/2009 2:59:42 AM
this may have already been mentioned, and i have yet to google, but:any way i can make it so when i right click on things in the task bar, there is the old school close options instead of the new shit?
11/5/2009 4:05:00 AM
close is there when you right click
11/5/2009 8:02:57 AM
can you still have a single copy for use on a desktop and laptop? i'm currently using the ultimate copy that i downloaded as a torrent a while ago (blah blah blah torrents are bad rawr rawr rawr), but i want to purchase the pro version...obviously, if i only have to purchase one copy, i'd much rather do that, but i'll purchase two if i have toalso, what differences will i notice between the ultimate and pro versions? yes, i'm sure this has been answered before, but i don't feel like sorting through the thread to find it...i don't really use any of the advanced features (at least, i don't think i do, since i'm not aware of what's unique to ultimate) is there anything blatantly different (IIRC, vista basic didn't include aero, where premium did...whether that's important or not isn't the issue, it's just that it was an obvious difference that your average user would notice if you pointed it out to them)
11/5/2009 8:31:35 AM
^ultimate doesn't really add much. might as well go with pro for $30(ultimate only adds bitlocker and 35 languages, according to MS) http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/compare according to wiki:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions _________________on another note, my laptop has been freezing all morning trying to determine if it was AVG, H/W, an update, or my external HDD...I uninstalled AVG and it's done fine since.... we'll see though [Edited on November 5, 2009 at 9:15 AM. 11/5/2009 8:56:03 AM
okay, so pro is the way to go...can i still purchase a single copy for legal use on my desktop and laptop both?also, how long is that offer going to stay up, anyone know?
11/5/2009 10:24:28 AM
ah, disregard...i'm thinking about the office license
11/5/2009 12:03:53 PM
anyone able to confirm if the product key will upgrade me from home to pro? I'm hesitant after that quote from M$ that I posted above.
11/5/2009 12:07:37 PM
^just try it dude.^^^^There are a few other minor differenceIn Ultimate you get Aero hardware passthrough rendering and windows media player redirection on remote desktop, and you get multi-monitor remote desktop. You also get federated search. For all those who were bitching and moaning about having a network SAN, linux file server, et al, you can create an OpenSearch provider on those computers, and then connect to it from Ultimate. This lets you search across pretty much anything just like it's on your own machine. But for most of us, none of those features mean shit (Outside of work, I don't think I ever use remote desktop, but here at the office it's freaking magical)

Does Windos 7 do a better job with disk management. The reason I ask is because every time I check my disks/partitions for fragmentation it always comes back with 0% fragmentation. I had to defrag in XP all the time, so I'm starting to get suspicious I've checked the scheduled defrag angle, and it's not that. I assume it's just moving things around in the background from time to time... or something.
11/6/2009 9:47:20 PM
Vista and & have automatic defragmentation. I know with 7 it works pretty well. Almost as well as the old Win 95/98 defrager.
11/6/2009 11:06:56 PM
lol, you tried to capitalize 7.
11/7/2009 12:05:00 AM
Lol Im not sure if i meant that or meant tosay & 7
11/7/2009 6:55:20 AM
I received my free upgrade in the mail yesterday (bought a new laptop in august).i was going to run it last night, but it said "this may take several hours"... so i cancelled it. I was going to let it run while i slept, but it said i would have to reboot the computer and be prompted to answer some questions periodically
11/7/2009 8:28:08 AM
got a free copy of ultimate 7 at work yesterday and threw it on there last night...runs like a champ right now. Can anyone recommend a good website that points out the less common features of ultimate and how to use it to its max potential?
11/7/2009 9:27:35 AM
i'd recommend google

ok ok..the comparison chart on this wiki is pretty goodhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions
11/7/2009 9:53:08 AM
gah, i can't fucking XP mode to work. the first part installs fine.. the second (smaller) file says that the update isn't applicable to my computer.. gah
11/7/2009 1:09:05 PM
Just installed the upgrade on my laptop. it runs a LOT faster than vista did. i love it so far.
11/7/2009 10:04:45 PM
Oddly enough the Apple Magic mouse was working great during the install but once Windows 7 installed I can't get the magic mouse to work Didn't expect it to work anyway...at least not yet.
11/7/2009 11:32:44 PM
i just made a win 7 usb installer.. soo much faster than a DVD was

Just wanted to ask again. What do people use for windows explorer alternatives? I've been using total commander since windows 3. I just feel so restricted in windows explorer. Only one pane, can't have locked tabs, few features.
11/8/2009 4:09:14 PM
i think the rest of us just use explorer
11/8/2009 4:36:54 PM
seriously? i would die. I have two panes with multiple locked tabs on each pane. I can instantly copy from one location to another without having to navigate anywhere. Not to mention built in zip, rar, etc support w/o external unpackers. Built in batch re-name tools, ftp. To even be productive with explorer I have to open two instances.
11/8/2009 4:44:01 PM
so? everything you've listed with zip and rar is built in anyways just with right clicking..no reason for another program for thatyour only other point is you want two instances more or less open at once..which makes sense and i could see to be useful.. just not something that is that big of a deal to me. i still have to go to the source location and the destination location. i can either do it in one window or two..doesn't matter to me[Edited on November 8, 2009 at 5:00 PM. Reason : d'oh]

11/8/2009 5:05:26 PM
.zip files will open without anything if you want them to.. .rar i think opens with winrar or whatever you have but i dont really do that muchbut, what i was saying is for unzipping or unrarring i can just right click and hit "unzip here" or "unzip to {insert name of file here}" and it makes a folder and unzips everything to that folder. as far as making a zip or rar file.. i just right click hit new, then zip file or rar file, name the new file, drag stuff into it and that's done. no opening another program
11/8/2009 5:26:57 PM
Yeah i understand. Same way for total commander. I just open lots of rars and opening winrar every single time gets kind of old. Easier because it just treats .rars like zips.
