Really loving the Brian Wilson so far except for the spoken word pieces. Guess that's more of a personal problem, though... I can't stand spoken word in songs.

i've heard bits and pieces of the brian wilson, and while the spoken words parts are odd, i think they work

he's all about some cheesy shit though

which i understand, but still...sometimes it works ("love & mercy") and sometimes it crashes and burns (the lyrics of "imagination")

the new of montreal is kind of ridiculous

some choice lyrics:
"i'm a black she-male"
"we can do softcore, but you should know i go both ways"
"i'm a motherfucking headline, bitch you don't even know it"

Wow, I had no idea cult of luna already released their album, I thought it came out later this year (came out last month though). Just picked it up and Wow, amazing album. If you havent heard of them before think of a darker version of explosions in the sky with some vocals.

If you like slow, atmospheric doomy stuff you probably already love this band as they were one of the founding bands. (think Isis, Russian Circles, Neurosis etc.)

This album is absolutely beautiful, already thinking it has a chance to become my favorite of the year after 1 listen through. Ill get a link up a little later today when Im back at my harddrive with the music for anyone interested.

i think a song is getting released soon from the group "United Nations". Its kind of a "super group" with members from bands like Thursday, Glassjaw, Converge, Number 12 Looks Like You, Made out of Babies, Lovekill etc.

Very interesting mix of people to be working on a record to say the least...

so glad I went to see matt pryor last night. the girl and I really enjoyed his set. he played all of the new amsterdam songs I really enjoy, a few solid ones from his new solo record, a reggie and the full effect cover, some terrible twos stuff, and several get up kids songs (many of which I was not expecting at all like "mass pike" and central standard time")

there were not that many people there, but just enough that it didnt feel too empty. but we got to talk to him for a bit since it wasnt extremely crowded. he was extremely nice.

oh and I got a little LOL at all the noobs requesting songs that Jim Suptic wrote and sang for the get up kids and not matt pryor (like 10 minutes or campfire kansas)

Girl, why'd you run away?

and yea, since it was just matt and an acoustic guitar, mass pike was one of the last songs I expected to here him play (but yes I love it too). He played Overdue, Out of Reach, Central Standard Time also from the get up kids.

he finished his set but people asked for an encore and he seemed generally surprised so he kind of messed around with a neutral milk hotel cover for like 30 seconds and then was like "ok i actually dont remember the rest of the words to that song but i'll play you another cover" and played Girl, Whyd You Run Away. And then people kept asking for one more get up kids song and he played tguk's "I'll Catch You". Now of course this has been me and my girl's "song" for like 7 years so it was a perfect ending to the show

trying to think...in total including the encore he played 4 songs from his solo record, 1 terrible twos song, 5 get up kids songs, about 10-12 new amsterdam songs, and 1 reggie cover, a Kill Creek cover. Pretty awesome set to highlight/summarize his career as a musician, I dont know that I could have asked for more in his setlist. Even the bands he covered he is personally/closely connected to through his career so they fit well.

Both of the new Final Fantasy EPs are out there. Plays For Please sounds of a musical score. Not my cup of tea. However he redeems himself with Spectrum, 14th Century. The Butcher and Cockatrice are pretty songs. Hopefully the direction of his Heartlands LP due out sometime this year.

I finally got That Lucky Old Sun and I totally love it. The first half is pretty cheesy, but it's the music of a man who's finally kind of happy. The second half is brilliant, and centers around the best chunk of the last discarded Smile song. Sitting through the entire thing, I really like the spoken word bits, too.

I guarantee you that in the next five years, somebody is gonna do a cover of "Good Kind of Love" that completely changes the meaning of the song without changing any of the words.
