I don't have a theory, and I know the whole purgatory thing is not whats going on. But they did push the whole death/hell thing in the episode. Like I said a few replies ago.....they probably did do it as a joke, but they still pushed it, and that was the entire point of the argument. You said they didn't, but they did.

^ also Ben showed Juliette live footage of her sister and her baby while she was on the island to prove to her that her sister was still alive. He was talking to the guy running the camera in real time and told him to turn it off and return to the island quickly and then juliette broke down, remember? Obviously real time and in this world. The real question is how did "Jacob" heal her sister? Is "Jacob" a person who went off the island to heal her sister or did "he" do it from across the world? I think that whatever Locke is about to see in the next episode is "Jacob" and it's not human. Codename "Jacob" refers to the great anomoly on this island that makes the magic happen. I don't know if any of you read the "ULTIMATE LOST THEORY" from awhile ago, but there are theories that there is a collective consciousness running the island (and events across the world) by way of supernatural/telepathic powers that only certain people (Locke, Walt, etc.) can tune into. http://www.4815162342.com/forum/viewtopic2.php?t=15038They want Locke to be a part of this consciousness as he has already shown a strong link to it's power. He is "special" like the Others told him, just like Walt was. The Others are forcefully controlling this collective consciousness (whats left of the Dharma?) to try and bend it to thier purposes (whatever they may be). This is my favorite theory right now because:1) it explains why certain people can channel things from their past onto the island2) it explains why the lady at the jewelry shop told desmond that unless he ends up on the island "We will all die". He is the missing link that the others did not account for like others already said on this board. She is linked to the collectice consciousness somehow, possibly many psychics around the world are linked to it. Claire's psychic who put her on the plane / Rose's faith healer who told her another spot in the world could heal her and arranged for her to be on the plane / etc.3) it explains why Locke and Rose were cured. It also explains how "Jacob" could cure Juliette's sister from across the world. It explains how Locke's dad ended up on the island: "Jacob" arranged forthe car crash and the transport. As Ben said to Locke: "You brought him here" because of Locke unknowing link to this consciousness that it responded to.4) Explains Jack's dads appearance, Kate's horse, Eckos brother, Hurleys psych ward buddy: the smoke monster being its on-island eyes and ears that it controls telepathically.5) The humans in the CC are growing old, which is why they need new people who have this link to the CC (locke, walt) to take their places. Also explains why having children on the island is important to Ben and the Others.yeah....[Edited on May 4, 2007 at 12:04 PM. Reason : sp]
5/4/2007 12:02:55 PM
So you are saying the CC is a group of people somewhere who are hooked up to devices and can control the world's events?
5/4/2007 1:03:09 PM
Whatever happened to Rose?
5/4/2007 1:23:06 PM
^I think she's just chillin, cancer-free with her hubby.
5/4/2007 1:39:10 PM
^^^yes, if the CC sees fit to do so. But who knows? Its all a theory and we don't know how the Dharma / Others play into it at all... The high frequency "interference" on the island is a byproduct of the CC's electromagnetic channel that allows them to communicate and possibly control events in the outside world.I doubt Rose's story is over, she seems to be one of the few survivors who benefits from the island's aura profoundly. She seems almost like a psychic in her own way now that she's on the island also, but they havent developed her much since last season. They spent a good 2-3 episodes developing her and Bernard's story, so theyre bound to pop up. The others are bound to know she had terminal cancer before the plane crash and that she is still alive somehow. Maybe the Others want to take her when they storm the beach in addition to the pregnant chicks?[Edited on May 4, 2007 at 2:26 PM. Reason : ]

did anyone else catch Locke's line when he was talking about what he thought the reason the Black Rock ship was on the way to the island? He said something along the lines of "its an old slaving ship, I think they were bringing slaves here to do some mining". I think theres something about what Locke said that will play into the islands magical powers.supposedly there is going to be a split in the Losties camp, some following Jack and everyone else following Locke and/or Sawyer
5/5/2007 11:40:07 AM
True...they have made a couple references to that ship and "mining"also remember what the Sawyer and Kate were doing after being captured by the others? They were breaking up rocks or digging or something...hmm[Edited on May 5, 2007 at 11:48 AM. Reason : ship]
5/5/2007 11:47:46 AM
^wow^^ I never put those together before....Im siding with Locke/ Sawyer. Jack is a sketchball now. Kate drove him to bitter insanity by fucking Sawyer and especially now since Jack knows she is pregnant with Sawyer's baby....

YES! Two more seasons of LOST at 9pm is great news.Seven month hiatus before Season four begins really really really sucks though....
5/5/2007 2:35:09 PM
yeah, but I heard that they will be airing episodes from January-May next season, which means they will be running non-stopit'll be like this season, except there wont be 6 episodes in November (I think thats when they aired) and then a break until mid-Februaryeven though a long break sucks, at least they wont be breaking up the season like they did last year
5/5/2007 3:38:03 PM
^yeah basically what Fox does with the show 24, just 24 weeks straight, no reruns, no breaks. I think it's the best way to do it with this type of show.
5/5/2007 4:38:59 PM
there is an article in today's USA TODAY that explains there will be 3 more seasons of 16 episodes each. running from Feb-May

only 16 episodes each? that's lame...
5/7/2007 10:52:19 AM
well all the talk over the past few weeks was about two more full seasons, which would have been 48 more episodesthis is the same 48 episodes, just spread out over three years... i'm downi imagine it's easier to keep viewers interested in shorter intervals as well, especially with a show structured like this one
5/7/2007 10:59:41 AM
also great to have advertisers pay for three seasons and package three dvd sets instead of twobut yeah, i think everyone is glad that the show has an official end date
5/7/2007 11:27:34 AM
!3 more seasons of LOST!
5/7/2007 12:11:06 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if the season finales and premieres were 2 hour episodes. Do they count that as one episode or two? Because if they counted it as two it would only be 14 weeks of Lost a season.
5/7/2007 3:42:21 PM
Someone should embed the requiem for a dream theme in here:http://content.ytmnd.com/content/6/5/1/65195aea95f45aab3ab98f036ffe5994.wav
5/7/2007 3:50:56 PM
^^ they do not count the two hour specials as two seperate episodes. This week is Darma/Ben focused, next week is Charlie, and the two hour finale is Jack focused.
5/7/2007 3:55:20 PM
^Well I know they do now, you can see that on the DVDs, but I'm wondering if they might change it considering the abbreviated schedule.
5/7/2007 4:00:59 PM
This is a really good discussion thread for the most part. I have been watching the show since its inception, but I have really only been reading this thread for a few months. I don't recall, but has it been discussed whether or not they are really on an island? I don't think that any one has yet to circumnavigate it, and there was a point in last episode when Locke's dad said something to the effect of "You still think this is an island?" before they shut him up. I figure with as thorough as these discussions are the point has been brought up, I just don't recall what people's thoughts were.
5/7/2007 4:55:13 PM
^i thought locke's dad was mainly alluding to the fact that he thought they were in hell/purgatory.....not that he got driven there or had knowledge that it was not an island.wonder why russeau came and got the exploxives?
5/7/2007 5:08:05 PM
They're on an island.Whether it's imaginary or not, is another story.in season two, they pulled the camera back from the others' camp and showed 2 islands. And the writers have also said SPECIFICALLY that they are not in hell or purgatory. That theory is busted.
5/7/2007 5:18:03 PM
lost over in 2010, 3 seasons of 16 episodeshttp://www.variety.com/article/VR1117964371.html?categoryid=1417&cs=1&p=0
5/8/2007 12:05:47 AM
did you not read the last 15 posts?
5/8/2007 12:47:22 AM
i was just saying that is what locke's dad was alluding to. The purgatory theory is totally bogus, but I was under the impression in the last ep. that lockes dad thought he had died in the car crash
5/8/2007 2:00:02 AM
^There wasn't much 'mildly alluding' from Locke's Dad. They made it painfully obvious what he was trying to say. He said, "A little hot for heaven, ain't it?" or something like that, then Sawyer says, "You wanna go to hell? You go to hell," or something along those lines. Locke's Dad might as well have said, "hey, i think we're all in Hell." My personal opinion, they're just trying to let you think you've got things figured out every now and again so they can surprise you in the long run.
5/8/2007 9:30:47 AM
5/8/2007 9:55:34 AM
I've heard that 5 deaths statement made before then someone who listens to those podcasts mentioned that after Locke's dad, only 4 more. You know they will probably have one, MAYBE two major characters die, most likely Charlie. However I'm thinking the other few deaths will be of really insignificant people, which will be disappointing.

It was explained that those numbers calculate the end of humanity (supposedly through one of the sprite promotions). I think the dharma initiative was the attempt to alter one of the numbers to save humanity.I don't know...
5/9/2007 12:54:59 PM
^ did they say FOR SURE that was the explanation for the numbers? I read theories that posed that idea, but I dont remember them actually explaining it in the show....
5/9/2007 1:00:10 PM
No, it was never mentioned in the show that I can recall.
5/9/2007 1:07:04 PM
Interview with the producers today on 96 rock. Said this episode someone extremely major is going to die. Of course yall have been saying that too, but they confirmed.
5/9/2007 1:12:37 PM
"Locke will hear two words tonight,'' says (producer Damon) Lindelof. "Those words, and the fact that he hears them, will change his course on the island forever."
5/9/2007 3:26:12 PM
what's with all the pseudo-spoilers that all you people are posting here?
5/9/2007 4:26:52 PM
Well I put *SPOILER* so hopefully you could skip over it if you didn't want to see it.
5/9/2007 4:58:09 PM
ya dont post spoilers in a tv thread, even w/ spoiler warnings. links maybe, but dont post actual stuff. this rule was established back in the season 1 thread
5/9/2007 5:59:55 PM
does this come on again tonight?
5/9/2007 6:15:39 PM
So you guys are speculating that the mystery of Lost has something to do with some physic voodoo garbage and mining. Perhaps they are mining something like the spice from Dune. As I recall the spice gave special gifted individuals the ability to manipulate space and time itself thus leading to space travel, prophecy and a hodge-podge of other strange talents. It seems clear that Lock is joining the others though, killing that guy using Sayer was him steppingto the dark side. I'd expect him to slide further down that slippery slope in episodes to follow.I wouldn't trust ABC's 3 year announcement, LOST makes them a ton of $$$ it'll be hard to just let it die. Its kinda like when MacDonalds offers the McRib as a "temporary item", ya we'll see.
