Prior to going home for thanksgiving my roommate and I put in some serious hours playing Call of Duty: World at War. What does this have to do with zombies?, some of you may wonder. Well, when you beat the single-player campaign, you unlock "Nazi Zombies Mode," which is basically about as much fun as I've ever had with my pants on.Playing cooperatively, we've made it to stage 13. The first couple of stages are jokes -- your starting pistol is enough to take them out and earn serious points. By levels 5-7, a couple of simple errors can get you killed. Past level 10 it's pretty much a bloodbath of you delaying the inevitable. Supposedly the designers of the game, playing 4 players on LAN, have managed to get to level 23.If anyone else is playing this on PS3 and would like to team up, plz to let me know. I'd love to see how far I could get with three other people.---The game allows for some effective use of flamethrowers and grenades, but of course, the game doesn't model the possibility of the building burning down or blowing apart. Our most successful weapons combination (not including the wildly effective but of course nonexistant Ray Gun) seems to be a trench gun coupled with carefully managed use of sub/machine guns. This strikes me as fairly realistic, again assuming that you can overcome the urge to just upen up with the MG.

what is zombie mode, you're in a bunker or w/e and there are hordes of zombies that attack you?

You start on the first story of a house. There's an upstairs and another downstairs room, but it costs points to get into those places. You get points by killing zombies and repairing barricades at building entrances (of which there are several). There are some weapons you can buy along the walls, including a bolt-action rifle (KAR), a Thomspon, a BAR, a trench gun, a carbine, and extra grenades. I think that's all you can buy directly. On top of that, though, there is a "mystery box" in the other downstairs room that costs a medium amount of money and generates a random gun for you.The Mystery Box might provide you with crap (say, a bold action rifle, which isn't great and which can be bought off the wall for far cheaper) or something glorious. These include a .50 caliber machine gun, an MP44, a flamethrower, a sniper rifle (not a lot of opportunity to zoom in, but great power and penetration), and the all-powerful ray gun.As yet there's only the one level, with increasing waves of zombies as time goes on. It seems pretty popular, though, so I'm confident that more stuff for it will be released.---The zombies get into the building via windows and a tunnel through which they break down one of the downstairs walls. All of these have simple barricades of perhaps five pieces that can be replaced whenever you get a moment to do so. Also, each room has an unlockable access point to each of the other rooms. The preferable strategy is to unlock rooms in such an order that it permits you to face zombies coming from only one direction.[Edited on November 24, 2008 at 4:53 PM. Reason : ]

there's a super walmart near my house... i might hold up there, but the problem is that it's all on the ground level and it would be hard to secure all of the entrances and other people who had the same idea... there would, however, be plenty of supplies. if I could get to the roof I would raid the hunting section and go dawn of the dead on their asses.

See, if I were a paranoid zombie enthusiast -- which I am -- it would concern me that a new disease outbreak in Mexico took place right after a bunch of reports of violence in Mexico. That's how it will supposedly go if the government suppresses accurate reporting. An unexplained rise in violence, followed by references to a disease that is met with ineffective countermeasures but for some reason we here in America don't really have to worry about.

^You're referring to "Day by Day Armageddon," which you can really only get by ordering off the internet. I have a copy if you want to pick it up.It's not particularly deep or well-written, and some of the things that happen are just a little too convenient, but it's a fun read. This as opposed to "World War Z," which actually has the makings of a good book and a good old fashioned zombie story -- that is, it has a lot of social commentary, outside references, etc."Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," when it's good, is very entertaining. Sometimes you have to slog your way through a whole lot of "Pride and Prejudice" between instances of "and Zombies," though, especially in the latter half. Still, though, it makes the original work readable for those of us who would never pick it up in a million years. Just when you're about to give up after ten pages of girls whining about men, there's a ninja zombie fight that on its own would just be stupid but which comes off as hilarious in the context.[Edited on July 17, 2009 at 12:32 AM. Just finished Day by Day Armageddon. While entertaining, way too many convenient events and 'just so happens that ________'. Fun though
