Just busted out of a 290 person multi-table in 32 (top 20 pay). I was in 2nd place with ~50 to go, around 19k in chips.Had 73 in big, with 4 limpers I check. Flopped 2 pair. Check-raised a guy with top pair (Q) to put him all in. He gets running 4s to make a bigger 2 pair. Bye bye 1/2 my stack. So I'm stewing and lose/win a few hands, have just under 10k in chips. After about 10 minutes I get KK in middle position. Raise 4* the blind to 2400. Guy with just about the same amount of chips as me goes all in. I call. He had A7o, gets the A on the river.WTF do I gotta do? How do you all play in multi-tables online? I either get right in the cash or just miss, like this. But rarely do i make a significant amount of $.

I just read the Sklansky book pointed out above and it is definitely worth the read. It seems like it may apply more to larger buy-in live tourneys than internet poker tourneys though. It has been my experience that if you're playing solid poker, finishing high in the money will naturally follow. There are a few things you can do though:1. Don't take unnecessary chances. Sklansky advocates this - passing up a marginally good bet now to make a better bet later.2. After you've made it into the money, don't be afraid to gamble to get in good position for the final table. Remember, the amount places xx-10th usually pay very small in relation to places 1-9. When you get to the final table, you want to make sure you have enough chips to make a run at winning the tourney.3. Don't get blinded out - go down swinging. If you're not getting cards pick a hand and push all-in, make someone call you if you they are going to knock you out.Just my thoughts. I've had varying success in these.

you ever have one of those days where you just know youre gonna get beat with some bullshit every timelike someone calls your all in after the flop, you flip em over and you have them beat... youve got 2 high pairs, and they called that shit with a pair of 2s!!! but you know they are gonna get their third 2 on the river to beat youand it happens over and over. it makes me lose my faith in poker, i cant play for a few days now or i will start playing really bad
7/8/2005 1:19:21 AM
i just played the most rediculous SnG ever. Dude, caught runner runner to knock AT LEAST 5 people out. calling allins with trash and making the miracle hand by the river. it was insane. I played a total of 7 hands the entire tourney and only went to showdown once when I was allin preflop and won it to make it to second place. Of course two hands later mister lucky hits runner runner flush to win.
7/8/2005 1:38:20 AM
hahahai got so mad.... i didnt realize how bad it was making me play till i called someones all in while i was chasing a gutshot straight (of course i didnt catch it), then i said holy shit i gotta stop playing so much fucking poker its gonna drive me insane!!1

I was playing in a Freeroll tournament on pokerroom.comwent all-in with like $250 left, got $900 out of thatthen I got pocket aces, my ace tripled on the flop, and 4th street was the 2nd kingjust as I went to push my chips in, my inet connection spazzes out, i autofold, thus losing the hand, and exited the tournament like 10 minutes laterif i were playing for real money i'd have seriously protested that shit, but since it was free money i didn't care as muchi finished 511th that day out of 2400

NoidRoid ended up comming with me to AC this weekend.crazy-assed stories to come....just a tease.an asain girl professing to the table she was going to rape me, me about cold-clocking this little dude in the grill, the worst suckout in 7CS, turning the nuts in a to have 2 go allin in front of me and almost losing the pot when the dealer fucked up, the craziest and possibly the best player ive ever seen, $300 max buy in tables with nearly $6k on the table in play...etc.more to come, its going to be a long day at work..
7/11/2005 7:26:54 AM
Story #1:1-3 spread 7 card stud, started session about 11 pm friday at the taj mahal. just woke up after about a 6 hour nap, and planned on playing till about 10 pm saturday.. was going to start off with a friendly game of 1-3 spread with some new york old ladies to warm up to some 1/2 no limit at the taj, then migrate down to the trop for early morning sniping, then the sweet old schoolers at ballys.I got what i bargained for. table had been running for a few hours, and it was about 130 am, and NoidRoid had already left to go to the NL Holdem tables. I was soon to follow since the table was down to 5 handed and about to break. (me)hole: [7c, 7d] door: 7s(batty old lady) [x,x] Ah(female dr. from brooklyn) [x,x] Kc(batty lady's husband) [x,x] 8c(weird guy, who had no idea what was going on) [x,x] 3c(guy) force bring in $1(me) raise to $4(batty) callfolds around, heads up, $9 in pot.(me)[7c,7d] 7s, 3d(batty) [x,x] Ah, Khi bet $3, she raises to $6, i reraise to $9, she calls. $27 in pot.(me)[7c,7d] 7s, 3d, 3h(batty) [x,x] Ah, Kh, Jhi bet $3, she raises to $6, i reraise to $9, she calls. same action. $45 in pot.(me)[7c,7d] 7s, 3d, 3h, xx (dont remember, didnt improve)(batty) [x,x] Ah, Kh, Jh, Th i bet $3, she raises to $6, I just call, hoping shes only on a flush $57 in pot.(me)[7c,7d] 7s, 3d, 3h, xx [xx] (didnt improve again)(batty) [x,x] Ah, Kh, Jh, Th [xx] i check, she bets $3, i just call. $63 in pot.she turns over AsJsQh. I dont know when she got the royal, but i pray it wasnt on the river. She gets a comp for dinner for two at their higher end resturaunt, i get a pat on the back.[Edited on July 11, 2005 at 9:22 AM. Reason : btw, pot values do not adjust for rake. rake was $4.]
7/11/2005 9:20:48 AM
sucks, usually you can tell which card the queen was no? i want more....i'm guessing it wasn't the river, but who knowsand btw a freeroll is a tournament that you can enter without paying any real money, usually frequent player points or something, that awards real money prizes, thus you are getting a free shot and winning cash as opposed to paying money to enter a tourney and winning a percentage of the buyins[Edited on July 11, 2005 at 9:36 AM. Reason : freeroll]

My big hand for the weekend that almost ended in disaster. NoidRoid was at the table again.1/2 NL at Bally's. $60 min, $300 max buy-in. I like playing at bally's for two reasons. 1.) crotchety old men that try and boss around young players, and 2) free food for the nl players. their hot dogs were damn good. the 1/2 is a decently high limit for what they normally spread, and they like to keep the players there to maybe build a clientele.I had worked up to about $230 (only bought-in for $150), piddling around with pretty weak hands like TPTK. New guy comes to the table, and is obviously there the gambooool. he gets ont he phone and attempts to have $5k wired to the casino, he apparently has already blasted through his marker. He is paying off the table, and constantly rebuying. he keeps trying to push weak players off weak aces by betting large and paying off top pair garbage kicker..im begging for a hand.gamboooler is utg, and live stradles to $9.im in middle position and call with Tc9c. I call.Late position calls $9, and BB calls $9. gamboooler raises his stradle to $20. mmmkI call, late folds, bb calls $20. pot holds $70the BB caller was a super tight asain guy who had just rebught, and didnt look happy.. he only rebought for $100, and never put it in without a Ace, high kicker.flop Ad, Qc, 8c. juicy.BB goes all in for $77. gambooler calls. hmm...im pretty sure that BB is on an ace, and not the KT or KJ. i would have bet my car on it. the gambooler however had raised to $20 with AK and AQ religiously. but im getting 3:1 on my draw. i'm also getting lots of implied odds on the remaining $120 or so in the gambooler's stack. i'm pretty damn sure hes pushingin on the turn no matter what hits. 1 Jc for the pure nuts, 3 J for straight (which iwas 100% sure was good), and the remaining 8 clubs for the flush, which i was also pretty sure would be good. It's a make or break hand, and the pot holds $224. I call the $77.pot size: $301turn: Jd (i about peed on myself a little)gambooler goes all in. for $120. I call. river is a inconsequential low card. main pot holds $301, side pot holds $240.I flip over my straight, asian guy walks away. The gambooler shows AK, says the straight is good, and turns his cards over and throws them at the dealer. however, they were not in the muck. dealer takes my cards and pushes them into the muck and tries to award the pot to the AK. I was standing up b/c i was excited, and immediately was like "HOLD UP." She had pully my cards into the muck, not recognizing the straight. I was getting pretty upset and confused, then everyone at the table told her i had a straight, and that the pot was mine. somehow by some luck, my two cards were the only ones face up in the muck. Heres the problem. by technical rules, any time cards go into the muck they are dead and a pot cannot be awareded to mucked cards. if the dealer mucks them or no, you are fucked. by some luck no one at the table seemed aware of this or mentioned it. a guy sitting next to NoidRoid quitely mentioned to him that i was lucky as hell that no one claimed my cards dead on technicality. The dealer then realizes that no one has seen or mcuked the asian guy's (BB) cards. she flips them over for AQ, top two on the flop. I scoop the pot, my heart is pounding. Waitress!!! i need a drink.
7/11/2005 10:16:42 AM
if dealer tried to say that your cards were dead, i would've gotten a boss and demanded that the tap be reviewed, I would also have demanded compensation, but that's just me, nice pot though

Wow, kep the stories coming! As some of you know, I am an officer in the military. In about 2-3 months, I will be getting stationed in Connecticut for sub school. Apparently, there is a really nice Indian resort casino right by the base that I plan on frequenting while I'm there. My wife isn't coming because she'll be looking for a house for us to buy whenever I leave Connecticut. I will be living in a fairly nice "hotel" for the 3 months that I'm there, and if anyone would be interested in driving up, I wouldn't mind you staying for a weekend to avoid hotel expenses, assuming you aren't a total asshat (of course the extra driving might deter you, but it's your choice.) I'm really just looking for someone who knows casinos fairly well to tip me in on good times/tables to play and what to look out for, seeing as I have only been to Atlantic City once, and I was far from successful.Shoot me a pm if you're interested. Here's the link to the casino:http://www.foxwoods.com/
7/11/2005 11:54:51 AM
foxwoods has one of the largest poker rooms in the united states..ive never been there, but i hear its very, very nice.i also beleive that they do an hourly fee on top of the rake for the 1/2 nl tables, which kinda sucks. like $5/ 0.5 hour per person.more stories comming, there are a'plenty.i do have to do some work you know.

ok so I'm playing $3-$6 limit hold-em at the Palms, and I've got about 90 bucks in front of me. There's 9 of us at the table. I'm playing tight, and finally after a while I get pocket Q's. I raise the BB before the flop, and the guy across the table re-raises. So I re-raise back, and he calls to make a pre-flop pot of $39. Flop comes down a rainbow of blanks. I bet out. He raises, and I re-raise. He calls.A king comes down on the turn. I had him pegged for AK so I think, 'fuck'. I check, he raises, and I call.River is a blank, he raises, I call, and he flips over AK. Just like that I lost almost half my stack. Thats the last time I'll play limit poker for a while. No-Limit is a lot more fun, and I feel like I have a lot more control.

there are more to come.im waiting on NoidRoid to post some, like how he busted his second hand at the borgata.. then i busted with the same hand less than an orbit later.. or the asain chick..just wow.in a few hours ill post a story where my stack size actually prevented me from punching an asain guy in the face. i gots to get some work done.i want to go back this weekend.

paid for hotel, food, tips, drinks, gas, and tolls in cash.. got home with ~$25 less than i left with..so good enough for me..not bad considering i blew through ~$250 on stupid table games and dice while on break not an entirely successfull trip, but termendously better than last time when i couldn't have a hand stand up to save my life..[Edited on July 12, 2005 at 8:50 AM. Reason : oh, im gonna start on the next story, work can wait.. ive only got 3 weeks left here anyways]
7/12/2005 8:49:20 AM
see all those expenses are my biggest deterant....i mean even if i can pull in 3bb/hr that probably would barely on cover my expenses, i mean playing nl could be more lucrative, but idk, i was thinking about taking a trip up there soon, and i was seriously thinking about packing all my food in my luggage, and just flying in, playing all day, then flying out the next day, no hotel room, you think iw ould get really overwhelmed without a room for 24hr or no?
7/12/2005 9:23:21 AM
Sunday - Borgata 1/2 NL, 60-min, 300-max buy-in.The table has a few players that have been there since midday saturday, so the table has alot of money on it.. players with very large stacks. This small little asain kid walks up and proceeds to be the most maniacal player ive ever seen. However, it was all part of his ploy. He was throwing ridiculous money around, in order to push down every pot. the cards didnt matter. it was the most ridiculous thing ive ever seen.. this kid was playing you, not the cards..the problem is that when someone catches something and check-raises the hell out of him, they get into trouble when hes got a garbage two pair, or straight. he won many small pots buy buying them, but a few enormous pots when he'd catch a monster. it was really amazing.. more to be said about this later.. NoidRoid and I basically dissected his strategy for the entire car ride home.. It was really amazing. so part of his game, he raised what seemed like 90% of the hands preflop. I remember him only folding maybe 5-10 hands in the short time (1-2 hours) he was at the table. Of course, ive got the worse seat in the house... he is sitting directly to my left.the game turned into a 1/2/10 game basically.. when sitting on the SB, i didnt even waste a $1 chip by limping, b/c i knew for a fact he was going to be raising. He had raised every single BB he was on. More background: as soon as the kid walks up, he orders a milk. (a milk, at a poker table in new jersey.... ok) He apparently had bought what seemed like abuout $600-$800 in $25 chips at the cage before comming to the seat... every hand he was raising large, and if he lost, hed pull more greens out of his pocket. This little dude pushing around everyone like crazy. It was just purely ridiculous. Part of his game was also to needle the players. the needling could be from his betting, or it could be verbally... but I'm sure of one fact, he makes a shit ton off of hot headed players who will tilt away everything they have in front of them. they'll think he's full of shit and throwing money away.. then hell come up with a hand and break them. There is alot more set up to this hand.. I really feel like i played entirely wrong. We had tangled and got into a who's got a bigger sack hand earlier.. and i actually induced a fold... i dont know what kind of read he had on me, but it seemed like he knew damn well what i had.so the game:MP limps, im on the SB with red aces. I feel this is my chance to bust a huge pot with this wild dude. crazy asain is in the BB. MP ~$250Me (SB) ~$540asain (BB) ~$290i limp call, merely waiting for his standard $6 or $10 raise. he only checks (alarms go off, MOTHER FUCK, WHY DIDNT HE RAISE). This was the 1st BB he didnt raise, and the ONLY hand of his session that he limped.flop: 5x As 2xok, he'll stab at this one.. short handed, he'll make a play.. i check.he checks (F0CK!)MP checks.turn: Jci bet out $15, he calls, MP folds.river: 3cdammit. 4 to a wheel on the board, he limped on the blinds, i dont know what to do. i feel like even if he doesnt have the straight theres a very large chance hes going to represent the straight. so i decide to check call.i checkhe bets $60. thats a large bet. the pot held $36. I make a crying call and flip over my aces. the table looks around like "what the fuck just happened?" he sits there slow rolling me, and the looks over at me. put his little finger up in my face and started waving it around, inches from my nose."no no no no no, it no good"and flips over his cards.... except he only exposes the Jd...(my inner dialogue.. what in the fuck is this??)he slowly reaches over to his cards, and slightly moves the jack over to expose the 4d. He had the straight. he slow rolled me on the showdown twice, and got in my face. Then he looks at me and with breath that really seemed like he had shit for breakfast, "YOU LET ME SEE DIS TWO DOLLA! TWO DOLLA! AHAHAH TWO DOLLA!"I really wanted to just clock him in the teeth..but i looked down and realized i still had close to $500 in front of me that i'd never see again if i get tossed from the casino.I'm kind of a small guy, and there are not many I am larger than. this guy was one of them. Ive only been in a situation twice where i wanted to roll a fucker, this was the second time. After some sort of composing myself, hes still laughing to himself and saying"two dolla two dolla"I ask why he didnt raise. "I no raise all the time!""The fuck you dont, you raised every goddamned hand!"(dealer busts out laughing, fucking up her shuffle)he just looks at me.ugg.
7/12/2005 9:28:11 AM
^I think I would have left the table after about 30 minutes of that crap. But then again I'm sure the wait time for at table was ridiculous

he had a phone call and had to leave. i really feel like he was just starting to set up the table where he wanted it. it seemed like he established this image, and was starting to tighen up a bit at the end. he was only at our table for maybe 2 hours. a few of the other guys at the table were there when he was at the same table the previous night. they said he cashed over $2,400 from a $300 max buy-in table the previous night. However, they did not say how much he had bought in for, or how many times. they did insinuate that he wrecked the table. For his time at our table, he cashed ~$500-$600, but was probably about $200 down for his session. Once he rebought from the dealer, and pulled out a wad of 100's that probably totaled 5k or more. part of his game is to lose pots in order to pull huge ones.the asain girl story is comming sNuw.... she was smoking hot too
